I picked up three DVDs and a Blu-ray in HMV Merry Hill but there weren't many Blu-rays in the four for £10 sale. Only really the 20th Century Fox ones which were £4.99 beforehand

Fantastic finds, especially if spine-slasher has left Skyfall alone...

I'll be honest, in my time on this forum I've never really known what a spine slash was or looked like but my spine looks absolute fine

Imagine a box full of steelbooks with the spine facing towards the opening lid of the cardboard box. And then Michael Myers from Halloween, Freddie Kruger from nightmare or Edward scissor hands (depending on which company) comes along and opens the boxes.

A giant knife cut all the way from left to right, right across the top row of steelbooks.

I really don't get this. Not only do we get the blue plastic on top, they have to cover the top 1/6 of the cover with a blue banner as well? Talk about overkill...

Fully agree - bad design. But at least it's Amaray rather than 'Frame'.

Let's hope this is the last experiment we see for a while!

Time Bandits steelbook was delivered by the courier last night from Amazon at about 6pm. The rest are from the HMV 4 for £10 offer at Merry Hill

Merry Hill, eh? You must not live that far from me. You should shop at the That's Entertainment in Telford.

(Shameless self-promotion)

I had a look at the one in Merry Hill. I didn't see anything in there I wanted

Stingersplash did a video on Youtube where he showed the UK steelbook of Captain America he got from their website for £1.99 with J-card and in mint condition. I think I'll be checking their website out from now on

My second haul from the B&N Criterion sale arrived, strangely High & Low hasn't shipped yet, despite seeming to be instock for ages. Thankfully no customs charges. Plus the usual assortment of recent releases from MoC, Arrow and Second Sight. Some from the MovieMail BFI sale, and Second Sight sale too (despite the negatives I've heard about the transfer, I couldn't resist Les Enfants Du Paradis at less than £10. Looking forward to the new documentary on the disc too). I'll be saving the Scream Factory double feature for closer to Halloween. Cannot get enough of cheesy 80's slashers.

On a random note, I had no idea Fabrizio from Before The Revolution was Francesco Barilli, the Director of The Perfume of the Lady in Black.

Damn, I'm jealous that you have your Samurai Trilogy. I'm still waiting on that and Babette's Feast to arrive.

It took the longest to arrive out of the lot, I was very concerned. Cannot wait until the late October, early November B&N sale. One of the many negatives about being region locked for so long is I have a massive backlog of Criterion wants.

Here's what I got Tuesday 27th August:

The top four are from the HMV Birmingham 4 for £10 sale. The bottom three are from Amazon

I went into the store yesterday and didn't find a lot more choice than Merry Hill. I found Samsara (hidden?) away with the DVDs and was struggling to find another three titles. I got John Bishop as I do find him funny, I also saw an Artificial Eye DVD, and to make up the fourth item, I picked up Date Night. I have seen it on Channel 4, and enjoyed it enough to spend £2.50 on it

They had Mumford & Sons: The Road To Red Rocks in the offer. I'd been putting off buying this as I was waiting for the price to drop. I got a £25 Amazon voucher from work and so picked it up for a fairly reasonable £14.92 from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. Just my luck that I could have got it for £12.42 cheaper if only I'd decided to keep on waiting

No Baraka, Mildred Pierce or Shadow Dancer unfortunately. I went to have a look in the Blu-ray section and I couldn't get to it. There must have been over 50 teenage girls sat there, apparently waiting for a signing from some bloke who used to be in Westlife. No doubt they weren't spending any money, and were stopping other people from doing so

I went back today, and while there were some decent titles in the 5 for £30 offer, there wasn't anything I really wanted. I had a look in the 4 for £10 section next to it, and not much there. There were two more copies of Samsara, but both had really battered slipcases. At least the one I got, although it wasn't perfect, was in very good condition
