Right, my point was that hardly ever happens(I got one I wanted on the sale you are referring to), and I didn't say anything about Target--I'm assuming you are talking about the buy 2 get 1 free deal they have occasionally for some(not all) of Criterion's titles. That sale the average for 3 titles works out to be $16 like you said.

And I didn't say anything about B&N either. That sale is usually 50% off the MSRP of $40 which is like $20 before shipping and taxes per title. So not too much of a difference from Amazon's typical 27.99 for someone who's selective about what they want to buy.

And you run into problems with that sale as well because all of the titles a lot of people(myself included) want are first to go out of stock.

They were price matching the Target sale... just as the do with all the Barnes and Noble sales... So Amazon has multiple sales of Criterions at 50% or more off per year.

Also, you're whole post came across as an implication that it's near impossible to find Criterions at less than $28 which is why I brought up the other sales...

They price match for certain(not all) titles which becomes a moot point if they aren't titles you want in the first place. I've been eyeing 'Straw Dogs' for awhile and it didn't go on sale at either website.

Amazon's 27.99 is more or less what you would pay for each title after taxes and shipping from the B&N sale since they take 50% of the MSRP which is $40. And even then that's a popular sale and the good titles people snatch up quick.

And nothing in my post implicated that it's 'impossible' to find them less than 27.99, it's just not 'typical'. And it shouldn't be IMO, they are collector's items.

A lot of these sales are US based anyway and mean nothing to international customers.

There are used Criterion discs on eBay under MSRP all the time. Y'all don't have to buy new exclusively. Under $30 sales happen every year at multiple outlets too, so idk.

There's a thing called parcel forwarding sites.

Ok but, a number of customers don't use the internet to buy things. Checkmate!

You must be looking at the wrong times, friend. I stand by what I wrote, because I know what I wrote is accurate.

Well, yeah. It is good for me, considering I save quite a bit of money this way.

Have you tried using CamelCamelCamel, by chance? If not, you should give it a spin. It's rather helpful.

In RE: 'CamelCamelCamel'

Right, the price will fluctuate down every now and then for some titles, but I would say prices usually stay pretty steady for most of Criterion's catalogue on amazon. It's a moot point if they aren't titles on your wish list anyway.

I regularly check out the prices for the titles I want on my wish-list to see if I can save a few bucks, so using a site like that wouldn't be of much utility to me.

Just saw One-Eyed Jacks is now $23 bucks, sold!

WOW! I and my husband just watched my Criterion and I loved it. We both did. I can't believe it's taken me this long to see this masterpiece.

Yes I'm aware but that usually means $$$ anyway. Going that route it would probably be cheaper to just buy it not on sale.

I felt the same when I finally got around to watching it. It's one of two DC films I kept forgetting about. It's even more ridiculous when considering the fact that I rather enjoy Michael Ironside in just about everything he does.

Great film, though. In my opinion, that head explosion is still one of the coolest practical effects ever.

Yes Michael Ironside is a great actor. And the ending to SCANNERS was perfect!

Michael Ironside is one of the only three reasons I like Top Gun. The other two being Tony Scott visuals and Tom Skerritt. Regardless Ironside is the man, he's fantastic here!

Scanners is being released on Blu-ray in Japan on August 4 with, according to the production description, a 2019 2K scan from the original negative.

The long-awaited return on Blu-ray utilizing the latest restoration from a 2019 2K scan of the 35mm original negative with negative scratch correction, audio noise correction, color correction!
EDIT: fwiw their 2020 release of Alice Sweet Alice was marketed as a 2019 restoration from 2K scan of original negative, but they probably used the 2019 Arrow Video restoration from 4K scan of original negative.
