See my rant a few pages back. This boss is the only one that made me throw my controller. They may have made it harder after the patch. In the videos I watched, the small spiders weren't as aggressive and there were less one hit kills. He would constantly one hit kill me and the spiders would all jump on me at once.

it's straight up unfair.. there are way too many spiders and they take too much health

I picked this game up over the weekend and I'm really enjoying it. Kinda reminds me of the old Nightmare Creatures on the PSX. Of course it was frustrating as hell when I first started playing. But now that I'm getting used to the controls and the strategies for some of the enemies I'm feeling a bit more confident. Still its gotta be one of the hardest games I've played. The note system is pretty cool too. For the most part they've been helpful but I think some players are just trolling. I fell to my death behind the giant boar in the sewers because I listened to a note someone left. I'm doing my best not to watch or read any walkthroughs so as not to spoil anything. But I will say the first boss I encountered was Father Gascoigne and he completely destroyed me - or I should say his stage 2 version destroyed me. I was holding my own until then. Seems alot of people's first boss battle is with the Cleric Beast so I don't even know how I could've missed him haha. I think tonight I'll do battle with the Cleric Beast and level up some more before dancing with Father G again.

Blast that sucker with the Cannon and the dust that makes ammo stronger. Don't target him, free run around to his side then BOOM. 4 times and he is close to being your *****.

It's nice and all that you get fancy weapons in the dungeons, but kind of pointless as you don't get any materials to upgrade them. That's one thing that really sucks about Bloodborne. Almost two times through the game and countless hours spent in these dungeons, and I have a single fully upgraded weapon.
Yeah I pieced it together last night. The only way to get Sinister Dungeons is by buying them in Layer 3 Dungeons before the 3rd boss. The (3rd) bosses give you Root Chalices.

Lower Loran for example. I bought the Sinister there in Layer 3 before fighting the Layer 3 boss. I can expect the trend to continue with Great Isz but I have to get to Lower Great Isz first.

I've gotten materials for weapon crafting in the dungeons but more so in NG+ story. Blood Rock can be found in the third layer of Sinister Pthumeru Ihyll before you fight the last boss. I either get Blood Vials or shards from werewolves, a few chests have Blood Chunks scattered around. (Easier to get them in story)

In the Dungeons there is always a main room where you can go advance to the Boss quicker, or take the door to your left, sometimes its on the right side. Those are the treasure areas, no bosses. You can find the better than story materials to get for Rituals you can't open yet, Runes, Enemies drop better Gems, & there are 2 different types of the same weapon you already have. Lost & Uncanny. Gem Stone type Fortifications are different.

I agree if you want better materials to upgrade your weapon, go through story in NG+ For everything else, it's in the Dungeons.

Yeah, probably best advise is to not lock in on him until you are around his side. Just watch out for his pouncing movement when you are that close. Entirely ignore the little spiders.

I killed Rom!

the cannon plan failed miserably, but technically acquiring the cannon did help me beat him, since the strength had to be 30 to be able to use it, I leveled up 5 levels in the forbidden woods and that's how I was able to defeat him

I also used Tonitrus instead of the Saw Cleaver, buffing it with L1 and the charge attack dealt a lot of damage

Grats

Imo Rom is one of the harder Boss fights to get down pat (the hardest imo being BSB and Amelia), so it "should" get a bit easier from there, at least for a time.

Now the Bell Maidens in Unseen Village ... and the group of Hags with the Giant Laser Death Ray ... bit of a Pita. But not too bad in the end

I'm also stuck on Rom. I've switched to the tonitrus I just found and upgraded it to like +4 which seems to deal with the spiders easily enough if they don't attack me lol I had him real close but those stupid iceballs tore me up. I'm like level 55 I think, should I level up more? I've also ran out of vials....I tried to ignore the spiders but I didn't really bait them away first so that failed.

I think there are 4-5 Sinister Dungeons.

Pthumerian - Done
Ailing Loran - Done

Working on getting Hintertomb
Working on getting Great Isz

I think there might be one in Short Ritual Root Chalice.

I did not think Rom was that tough of a boss. The key to him is not to lock on, don't stay in one spot to long and do not aim at his head as that is where all his defense is. Instead run to his side and smack him there. In the first battle I used the two-handed axe and used a charge attack on his side. The ax is great because of the spinning attack can hit him twice. After one charge attack if he does not teleport run to his other side and smack him again. This is just my two cents on Rom. I hope that helps. For me the toughest boss in the game are the the two you face before you reach the queen in the chalice dungeons.

I agree with this completely. Except I just used my saw cleaver. And I would not bother with the small spiders, other than possibly the first crop, if they are a lot of trouble for you. The AOE attacks are too risky later on, and speed is key. One or two series of hits was enough to teleport him. Agree about the bosses, too.

Yeah you make a good point with Rom. Speed is the key.

I was only level 45, so I've been going around grinding echoes instead. Nearly got her twice at 45, so I imagine at 55 I'll stand a much better chance.
