Enjoyed the movie. Awesome visuals. Having said that, Beyonce IMO was horrible. She may sing well but her voice acting leaves a lot to be desired.

While the visuals might not have felt as quite as remarkable as they did in Jungle Book, they of course were still very impressive. And the 5 expanded full IMAX sequences were awesome (also had the best 3D in the movie as well).

The movie doesn't expand at all. It's full IMAX ratio the whole entire movie.

No, it's not. Only 5 sequences expanded to 1:43.

I've seen it twice in IMAX and there was never an expanded ratio. It was full screen from beginning to end

Was it IMAX Laser? If then that's probably why.

Come on everyone admit it,no way was this movie worth a 5.1 that the sabotagers had a week ago on imdb, that was uncalled for. Saw the movie on Thursday, while its not as good as the original which is a classic and a 10/10, this was a great effort and deserving of a 7.5 at the very least,if not an 8. That 5.1 is just screwing around with the movie, what do you think this is the haunting of Sharon tate?

No, it's worse. All kidding aside, this movie was a pale imitation of the original. I kept watching this and thinking about the original. I swear I could hear Matthew Broderick's voice in the adult Simba. And Beyonce, well she was Beyonce as usual. God awful. All in all not the worst movie ever, but totally unnecessary. 3 of 5 stars

I highly doubt that. Beyonce can't do much right at all.

Yeah, IMAX Laser. 1.90:1 the whole running time on normal IMAX. Xenon projectors can't expand bigger than that.

Ejiofor is turning in a really good voice performance here (he’s the only one, imo) but at every turn the photorealistic animation fails him.

This probably peak Seth Rogen obnoxious-ness.

I saw it at Lincoln Square. Much of the movie was 1.90:1 with several sequences expanded to fill the entire 1.43 floor to ceiling screen.

I’m going back tomorrow just to see it again in IMAX 3D.

Saw the standard version last Friday (it opened on July 17 where I am). Will be going back to see it on IMAX too. "The Lion King" was the very first film fandom I ever joined (and one I'm still passionate about) so I was hoping this live action remake won't disappoint. It actually turned out to be a decent remake in my book visually. The scenes following "Circle of Life" were a little slow, and the audiences at my end seemed to be wanting more but the second part of the movie got better. Billy Eichner was a standout for me. And wow his singing really blew me away. Glad to see a lot of praises for him on Twitter.

Yup, that’s where I saw it as well. While the advantages it had over other nearby IMAXes are less now that they are IMAX laser sites too, when it had those 1.43 scenes (and was more expanded footage than I was expecting, the finale sequence in particular was rather long), it’s clearly the place to see the movie.

2/5. Hated everything except for James Earl Jones & the photo realism. 2 stars for both of those things.

The animated version is better. Beyonce sucks. That is all.

This is also animated, though.

I did not care for this. I was honestly bored watching it. It felt long with the padded runtime. The visuals are amazing but to me this felt like watching a nature special with badly voiced lines recorded over it. Even James Earl Jones didn't have a same impact as he once did.

Also, what the hell. They played "Can you feel the love tonight" during the day. lol

I'll stick with the classic as there seems no reason for me to ever re-watch this. Aladdin was much better and a lot more fun. I'd recommend that over this. Least it did some things to feel fresh.

2/5

To be fair, where I live for instance, at this time of year "Tonight," ends a bit after 10:30pm.

I feel like my friends and I are the only ones who thought his voice was the second worst vocal performance in this flick. JEJ sounding like Grandpa Mufasa was the worst. With all due respect to him, his voice in the 1994 film is unmatched. They should've just extracted his voice from that instead of having him re-record pretty much verbatim. Or recast like they did for literally everyone else.

Back to Ejiofor, I adore him as an actor. But I just didn't care for his portrayal of Scar. I do appreciate the hints of his backstory and also the fact that he seemed to approach Shenzi with an alliance rather than having it already established in the original.

I am giving this movie another chance with my sister soon, so maybe the animals' lack of expressions won't be as jarring the second time around? But as it stands, this was about as necessary as Gus Van Sant's remake of Psycho which is nil. And this is coming from someone that has been enjoying this resurgence of live action Disney tales. It's been fun seeing the movies I grew up with getting new life.

JEJ is getting up there in age (he is 88 afterall). He's not gonna sound like what he did 25 years ago.
