One more week until football season starts!

According to Wisconsin AD Barry Alverez Iowa and Wisconsin will be in different divisions in the Big 10. This isn't a big deal as long as the 2 teams still play every year, as they are rivals that play a trophy game. It also sounds like Michigan and Ohio State will be in opposing divisions and will play earlier in the season, with the goal being the 2 meet again in the Big 10 title game, a matchup that would garner huge ratings. I don't like this. It will seem like there is less on the line and this was a great game to end the season.

It sounds like the Big 10 is not going to base the league's divisions purely on location, and is going to put split traditional powers Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, and Nebraska between the divisions, with the goal of having the divisions fairly even and not like the disparity between the Big 12 North and South.

I read about this earlier, and I don't really have an opinion on the Iowa/Wisconsin separation. However, the Michigan/Ohio State state separation is something I've been cogitating over for a while... I see the good and the bad of them being separated. It's easy to see that a few years ago, this was the biggest rivalry in CFB, but Michigan's depressing seasons under Rodriguez (compounded by self-imposed probation over the next 2 years) makes this less of a competitive rivalry, and more of a spoiler opportunity for BLUE.

Being in separate conferences means it's possible for these 2 to play for the conference title: which is how it used to be when Michigan was still competitive.

There is some speculation that Iowa is going to be in the eastern division of the Big 10, which I really hope isn't true and doesn't make a ton of sense. Iowa is one of the most western states in the conference and I will be upset if they are in a different division then Nebraska, with Iowa being the only Big 10 state that Nebraska borders and a natural rival. I also hope Iowa doesn't lose it's annual game with Minnesota. If Iowa is in the eastern division and Minny and Wisconsin are west than Iowa will only play one of them each year, because each school will only have one protected rivalry, even in 2015 when the league goes to a 9 game conference schedule.

Georgia running back Washaun Ealey, who led the Bulldogs in rushing last season, was arrested early Friday morning on misdemeanor charges of hit and run and driving with a suspended license.

University of Georgia police chief Jimmy Williamson told ESPN.com that Ealey was arrested at 3:19 a.m. ET after hitting a parked car on a parking deck while driving his roommate's vehicle.

According to Williamson, a UGA parking services employee asked Ealey to wait for police after the minor accident, but he left the scene before police arrived. No injuries were reported.

"They told the driver that he needed to stay and that police had been called," Williamson said. "He left the scene."

Williamson said UGA police identified the car's owner, who told them Ealey was driving the car at the time. Ealey was arrested on misdemeanor charges of "duty upon strike" (hit and run) and driving with a suspended license, according to Williamson.

Ealey was still being held Friday morning in the Athens Clarke-County Jail on $3,000 bond.

Bulldogs coach Mark Richt wasn't immediately available for comment.

Ealey, a sophomore from Stillmore, Ga., is expected to share the starting tailback job with junior Caleb King this season. Ealey ran 125 times for 717 yards with three touchdowns last season.

King, a junior from Norcross, Ga., ran 117 times for 594 yards with seven touchdowns in 2009.

The No. 23 Bulldogs open the season Sept. 4 against Louisiana-Lafayette at Sanford Stadium.
This is a shame for Richt, the hits keep on coming for him. He's a really good coach, and I really hope he is able to do well this season.

So many dummies out there.

I love Ealey - the kid has some talent and a bright future, but come the F on...driving on a suspended license...after 3 in the morning...and then leaving the scene??

The one-game suspension doesn't seem adequate. If this were a lesser quality player, it would be more. But UGA has South Carolina in week 2, and they need Ealey. Sad.

Pretty sure Alabama can handle San Jose State without Ingram. Their third-team could blow out San Jose State, but Richardson is a stud and they won't miss a step. This could hurt Ingram's Heisman campaign though since he probably could have gotten 200 yards and 3 touchdowns in the first half.

I think Alabama will blow out Penn State. They still don't have a starting quarterback named and whoever it is isn't going to be able to handle the atmosphere at Alabama for their first road game. Penn State lost some stars on defense and I don't think they'll be able to handle the Tides' offense.

Yeah I'm stoked to see how well Richardson can do while not playing second fiddle to Ingram.

Also Goode is no slouch either, and I can't remember if its Grant or Lacy (or maybe neither) who is a quality freshman RB.

Speaking of RB's how are you expecting Adam Robinson to do with a revamped Iowa oline?

Iowa's got a wicked experienced WR core, so if that Oline can build on last year they should have a wicked good offense.

Spievey was such a big loss behind the Oline and you can already see his skill in the preseason which would have been a huge bonus if he'd stayed.

Wow! I guess I would eventually get used to the changes, but losing the traditional OSU/ Michigan game at the end of the season? Growing up in Columbus, OSU/ Michigan week was like a national holiday. I'm sure it was the same in Ann Arbor, too.

I'm not sure who will be the Hawkeyes leading rusher, because Jewel Hampton was an absolute stud in 2008 playing behind Shonn Greene before missing last year with a knee injury that shouldn't have any lingering effects. Iowa will be short-handed Saturday against Eastern Illinois though with Hampton suspended, Wegher still AWOL and likely to redshirt, and top RB recruit Marcus Coker out with a broken clavicle. I think both backs will be very successful and the key is for Ricky Stanzi to cut back on the boneheaded interceptions.

If their offensive line plays well Iowa has a real shot at an undefeated season. They still have Riley Reiff, who was their best lineman last year (first round pick Bryan Bulaga was injured much of the year and wasn't great until the bowl game). Their three hardest games, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Penn State are all at home, as is the rivalry game with Iowa State. They'll have a tough road game at Arizona but fortunately it's a night game so it won't be as hot. Iowa's defensive line is probably the best in the country and their linebackers are very good as well. Losing Spievey hurt but they've still got Tyler Sash at safety and Shaun Prater and Brett Greenwood at cornerback.

In a very surprising decision the NCAA has denied Jeremiah Massoli's request to play this season for Mississippi. Massoli was kicked out of Oregon but since he had graduated and enrolled in a grad school program Oregon didn't offered he was expected to be able to play immediately. Mississippi will appeal the decision but it's unlikely a decision will be made before Mississippi plays Saturday against Jacksonville State.

The NCAA gave 2 reasons Masoli isn't eligble. First, he wasn't going to be eligible at his previous institution and second, Masoli only changed schools because he was dismissed from his previous squad. Mississippi is going to argue in his appeal that Masoli had already decided to transfer prior to his dismissal. I actually agree with the NCAA in this case. It's clear Masoli's decision to transfer wasn't academically motivated and that he was just trying to circumvent transfer rules. I don't agree with the timing of the NCAA's decision. They should have notified Mississippi weeks ago, not during the week of their first game.

The Big 10 is going to officially announce their divisions tonight, and per ESPN.com's Andy Katz the divisions will be:
• Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern and Minnesota.
• Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana and Illinois.

As an Iowa fan I love that they will be in Nebraska's division. They are natural rivals and this should be a huge game. It's also arguably the easier division. I hope Iowa keeps Wisconsin as a rivalry game, but from the sounds of it Wisconsin will be playing Minnesota each year.

Iowa center Josh Koeppel was hit by a truck Monday while riding his motorcycle. Amazingly Koeppel was largely unhurt and just had some bumps and bruises. Koeppel, who was listed as a co-starter with James Ferentz (Kirk's son), will miss the game Saturday against Eastern Illinois. A police car's camera caught the accident and the video is available online (see link). The police are investigating how the tape got out. It is really amazing he wasn't seriously hurt.

We're going to rock Pryor next weekend! Seriously though, I think both defenses will keep the game lower scoring. It should be a good one, I'd give my left nut to be able to be at the game and see the 'Canes take down Ohio State.
