I purchased six 4-tray (15mm) cases for season 1-6 and two 3 disc cases (12.5mm) for season 7 & 8 from casetopia, which does fit, in the original packaging, if you remove the bonus features case. The 6-tray cases are 15mm too, so presumably, you can fit 6 of those again, as long a you use 12.5mm cases for season 7 and 8.

I've been watching this every day since I got it and I finally finished it up for the first time. All of the discs in my set were very clean with no scratches or fingerprints on them. I'm using a Sony X700 UHD player and I had no playback issues from beginning to end. I purchased the steelbook set from Best Buy.

I liked the show alot. I felt that season seven had some pacing issues and I had a few minor issues with the setup in the north but overall I liked the ending. Season 8 satisfied me but I can see why some might not like it. Most character arcs don't end nice and happy or in tragedy. It's a fine ending in my opinion though. Some might consider it anti climatic but it suited me.

My biggest disappointment wasn't with the show but with my LG OLED's near black uniformity showing some nasty problems during the "long night" episode. I had no problems seeing what was going on but all of my panel's greatest flaws occur in near black situations. It can handle pitch black and bright scenes fine which make up most of the show and it did look great the whole way through. It has very rich colors that help alot and the last few seasons have an extra crisp level of definition on top. Sound was fantastic and got better and better as the series went on. I'm very satisfied from a technical standpoint. The show had a large budget and alot of excellent shots, sets, costumes. The cast was very strong both in terms of writing and acting.

The cx had problems with the long night episode, odd. I haven't got to s8 yet on the set but i watched s8 4k when it was released a while back. Unless the box set has different discs mine looked perfect on the c9. Maybe it was the disc in your set?

The CX is apparently known to have near-black issues. Every year LG elevates black floor on these displays. I had to recalibrate my display to fix this.
Anyway, my set arrived and got seized by customs..awesome. At least I could see it was sent out in a proper cardboard box. Should have it by next week.

What would be the reason for LG elevating the black floor from year to year on their OLED TV models?

And are you talking about the Out-Of-The-Box experience, with what Picture Mode setting? Does simply lowering the Brightness setting help?

Finally, I’ve read on AVSForum that there’s a FW update coming for the CX soon that should fix the near black issues. Apparently some user(s) have had pre-access to the FW and reported that. We’ll see when more users have had access to the same FW and can report their experiences.

On the c9 i had to tweak a lot but got it dialed in. My older plasma was the same way so id imagine the cx would need adjustment as well.

As I said, the problems on my CX are near black uniformity issues. I have a soft ball sized spot on the upper left hand side of the screen that appears darker than the rest of the screen. It can only be noticed in near black situations. When a shot looks dark grey, the screen will appear dark grey but the dark spot will appear black. It makes the screen look broken and horrible.

My screen is calibrated which got rid of the raised black issues. It also got rid of the Dolby Vision black bar flickering that LG reintroduced on the CX series. Gsync continues to cause near black flickering, stuttering and white artifacting. The display also has issues with vertical banding in low light conditions. It's a stunning panel when it displays correctly but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who owns a C9. LG's quality control is poor and I've been through multiple panels that all have similar problems. While the issues with Gsync and HDMI 2.1 can be fixed, the issues with near black uniformity are with the display and can't be fixed with calibration or firmware updates. After spending nearly 5K on this TV, I can pretty much guarantee this will be my last LG TV.

Yea I know the pain. My first 2015 LG OLED was horrible and I had to get rid of it. Unfortunately these panels often display uniformity issues above 55" size even if the 65" panels got much better. The problem is LG keeps messing up the near-blacks. As you said floating blacks can be calibrated away but not the uniformity issues.

That sounds bad. Why didn't you return it?

I did, the first one was worse. Check AVSforum, the 2020 panels have this problem. AVSforum is full of posts that contain pictures of the issue. Some panels have spots like mine, others have half of the screen darker than the other half. Looks terrible and it can't be fixed. Sony uses the same LG panels in their OLED TV's so I didn't bother trading it in for a Sony. I just can't believe so many units have left the factory that look like this. Somebody should have fixed the issue before beta testing these panels on the public. Anyway, this is getting off topic and that wasn't my intention, I was just speaking my mind about my experience. I figure alot of people have had issues with "the long Night" episode because of HDR raised blacks/flickering, poor peak brightness on some HDR displays, uniformity issues ect. If your C9 looks perfect then consider yourself very lucky.

AUS edition - No stacked discs or rating labels (besides cardboard slip). Currently AU$251 (appx US$180). Hopefully UK edition will be near the same.

The 4k quality is a great as expected after already viewing the S8 4K discs (not sure how all seasons are marketed as upscaled 4K, assuming this is due to the heavy use of CGI done in 2K?).
The Dolby Vision really makes the impressive difference! The colours and details in the costumes in the foreground and background really pop, In Battle of the Bastards the red from the boltons sigil on the shields and armour stand out, never noticed the colours like that on prior formats. Some of the scenes from Essos feel a tad over saturated, but overall wow wow wow.

What do you mean you don't understand how they are "marketed as upscaled 4K"?

For a start I've never seen a mention of upscaling in the marketing of UHDs, it tends to be something for us nerds on the forum to concern ourselves about.

And secondly, it is all upscaled from a 2K DI. Every single shot of every single episode is upscaled, and over 99% of it is only shot at 2K too.

People were really expecting a big price drop for a release that’s not even a month old?

Yeah, a big price drop for a release that’s not even a month old, and right before Christmas
I wasn't even expecting to be able to make it mine for as "little" a price as I did (that would be the German standard boxset).

In the UK HMV did 20% (£40) off earlier this week until it sold out.
