I enjoyed the first two Predator films. I felt this film has the same tone.

I really enjoyed this. I thought it was a clever take on The Predator's formula. It took similar beats from the original, added in some fresh ideas and concepts, and executed a really entertaining plot.

Some of the CGI looked a bit rough in spots, namely the animals.

I thought the character design of the Predator looked great.

Also, the soundtrack was top notch.

I enjoyed Prey. It's nice that we've gotten a good variety of Predator films in terms of setting and characters.

I also liked The Predator (2018). I'm surprised so many here dump on it. I saw it in an IMAX theater and it was a lot of fun. The cast is good and along with the dialogue and music it feels in a lot of ways more like the original Predator film than any other sequel. Thanks to Shane Black, the director, who was part of the original cast. I liked Jacob Tremblay's character as well. He's one of the better child actors of the last decade.

Im here for user John1701D. Its my check-in post. Hi everyone.

Once this available to view at home somehow I might - I said might try it out. Its the old "been burned so many times..." that its hard to commit. But, perhaps. . At least it isnt being called outright terrible and has even received "OK" reviews from some of my favored reviewers so thats good.

I loved it, great film. Most intimidating predator in the series, even outdoing the first predator as far as intimidation factor. Definitely a favorite now.

It's on Disney+ here in Japan with full Dolby Vision and Atmos.
(Hulu Japan was sold off to locals awhile ago and does not have the same content as Hulu US)

Oh good - sorry, summer time here in upstate, NY. Lots of activities(boating, sports cars, fishing, golfing, etc.) have superseded watching movies. I havent launched the D+ app in like weeks. Maybe I'll give it a spin one of these nights if thats OK with you, of course.

I can't speak to the HULU app but anyone trying to play this on the Disney+ app on the SHIELD needs to roll back the latest update in order to get DV and ATMOS...

I did not watch any previews or read anything here prior to watching the movie (just like JW: Dominion) as I wanted to be 100% surprised. I was, but while I generally liked the movie a lot (hell, I can't even remember the plot of The Predator and I've watched it twice), there were a few things I disliked.
  • As others have said, the first third or so was pretty slow. Oh well. Minor detail, but that also reduced my expectations for the movie and made the rest seem pretty damn good.
  • As others have also noted, some of the CGI is pretty sketchy. Why is it dinosaurs look so great yet bears and cougars almost always look like crap? There were some Predator swinging in the tree bits that looked pretty poor too.
  • While I realize you turn your brain off for movies like this, I can't understand why an alien from another planet would get a woody out of killing earth's wildlife and taking on natives and
[Show spoiler]Frenchmen with primitive (but apparently effective) firearms
? Whatever. Just seems really odd for an "advanced" civilization.
  • The wearing your makeup to bed bothered me. Any woman I've known never did that for a reason; you look worse than the Joker after you get up the next day as everything's smeared everywhere unless you lie almost perfectly still on your back. Did natives really do that? I doubt it, so it seemed like trying to make the natives more native. Unnecessary.
Having a female lead did not bother me. Whether this culture had woman warriors or not, there's a ton of movies out there with strong female warrior type leads in various cultures where strong females are few (hell, is Atomic Blonde normal?). It happens. Not a stumbling block for me.

Beyond those "complaints" which I think are fairly minor for a movie like this, I really enjoyed it (and will likely remember the plot!). I look forward to the release of the blu-ray.

For the question about cgi animals. We have seen bears. No one has seen a dinosaur so our brains are not telling us it looks off.

I didn't notice anything off with the visual effects, but I'm not one to usually complain about CGI. Maybe people shouldn't expect a made for streaming movie with a lower budget to have the same polished level of vFx that a $200 million theatrical film would have? But then people complain about the vFx in those movies too.

I'm surprised how much positive reception this one is getting. Not that it's terrible, and I have no concerns about the "wokeness" or any of that. But it felt like just another Predator film that's essentially remaking the first film with one novel gimmick to distinguish it. The CGI was cheap, the fan service and twee dialogue ("I'm smarter than a beaver") was anachronistic and cloying (though to be fair, there wasn't a whole lot of it) and the high flying kung-fu was cheesy as Hell.

I mean, I didn't hate it as much as the above paragraph makes it sound - it still delivers on the protracted battle for survival between a hero and a space alien the series promises - but I went in with limited expectations and still felt a little disappointed. I guess I'd rank the films like this:

Predator
Predator 2
The Predator
Prey
Predators
(It's been too long since I've watched the AVP films to place them precisely, but they'd be near the bottom, under Prey.)

I don't know. This one just felt like the first DTV entry in the franchise, like Hellraiser 6 or Children Of the Corn 3. Well... maybe better than those two, but you get the idea. And yet fans seem to mostly be giving it raves; I don't quite get it.
