Commercially, he needed an R-rating. Therefore, he came up with the B&W idea. THIS is the only reason he added the black and white sequence; otherwise, imagine how much the MPAA would have asked to be cut!

And remember, even the B&W was not enough as it still got censored!
To summarise:
The O-Ren Ishii anime is censored.
Before it goes to B&W, cuts were made eg. Sophie bleeding out more when her arm is severed.
During the B&W sequence, several shots are “cut”
AND
worst of all, at the end, Sophie getting her other arm cut off is also censored!

Link to US-Japanese censorship comparison: (go straight to the 35m13s O-Ren Ishii report for censored sequences) - https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=1588

The first time I watched the film, I didn’t even realise Sophie’s other arm is cut off, as all we hear in the R-rated is Beatrix saying “Give me your other hand” and a scream. Then her body rolling down the hill to the ER.

The “Japanese cut” (apart from the missing Star Trek reference and possibly the first melee) is the film Tarantino wanted to make, but his hands were tied by the MPAA. Thus, for the most part, the Japanese Region 2 DVD is the DC.
A Kill Bill Directors Cut Blu-Ray is on the top my wish list.
Absolutely.

Matter of fact I would rather have an uncut Kill Bill on regular Blu-ray than an R-rated UHD.

I suspect it is more that Sally Menke’s death in 2010 left him without a clear idea about who to work with to get this out. Just speculating.

Both the Japanese version of Vol.1 and The Whole Bloody Affair are in the can. So no editing is needed. I think he just has no interest in his films on home media.

I think this one in its whole uncut form may never get released due to the controversy behind the scenes involving Uma injuring herself on set along with Weinstein being in a bad spotlight nowadays. This could possibly be making tarentino hesitant to release this at the moment but im just guessing

or if there is any truth to QT's retirement from directing once he completes his 10th movie, perhaps he can then concentrate on a massive box set of all 10 films with various cuts if in fact others have alternate cuts outside of Kill Bill 1 & 2.

Although I wonder if Kill Bill Vol. 3 will be the 10th film and therefore the Whole Bloody Affair isn't quite complete yet.....

I don't understand why the Japanese version of Vol. 1 hasn't been released on BD (not even in Japan)

I don't think the Uma Thurman story from a year ago is enough to turn off too many people from enjoying the film. It was a story that seemed to blow up for a couple weeks because it was new information to most of us, but Uma has also expressed forgiveness and reconciliation taking place within these past like fifteen years.
And Weinstein has his name attached to far too many pictures for it to be "too soon" to revisit them. It's unfair to the actual directors and everyone else involved with those movies, and I don't think there's any major call to dismiss whole works because the producer turned out to be a bigger a-hole than we even suspected when these films were released.

That's my best guess. I think maaaybe he hasn't totally ruled out a third film yet. Although I do wonder if he would count it as a tenth film. Volumes 1 and 2 are counted as one. Maybe he'll "cheat" his ten film limit if he makes a third volume.

With the bad blood between Q&U, I doubt that Kill Bill Volume 3 will ever be made.

There doesn’t appear to be bad blood between them. They’ve stayed friends since filming and the incident and she even attended his engagement party just a year ago. She says she doesn’t blame Quentin for the incident and forgave his part in it, not the others who covered it up.

That said, I don’t think Vol. 3 will ever happen. It doesn’t seem like something Quentin really wants to make at this point.

Vol. 3 is about as useless as a pecker on a pope (yes, I stole that line from Planet Terror). That would be a pointless filler. A lame unnecessary epilogue to an already complete epic revenge movie split into two parts.

Well, it's nice if Quentin and Uma are still friends (and her daughter is appearing in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood), but I still doubt KBV3 will ever be made, as the story was pretty definitively concluded at the end of Volume 2, and it was a physically grueling shoot for Uma even without taking the accident into account, and that was close to 20 years ago. I would rather see Quentin make new movies if he's honestly gonna retire after his next two.

In other words, it would be the Godfather Part III of the series.

Why does anyone put any stock in QT actually retiring, especially after some arbitrary number of films? I don't doubt he might take a sabbatical at some point, but actually walking away for good? Highly unlikely.

I don't put much stock in anything he says cuz he's known to spout off about anything and everything. Not sure if he's still on coke or not, he seems a bit more subdued of late but still talks for the sake of talking. Don't get me wrong, I love his movies, I just don't want to have a beer with him cuz I know I wouldn't get a word in.

Uma and Tarantino are still friends. It was the writer of the article that fabricated hostility between the two. She later clarified that she's still friends with Quentin shortly after people speculated otherwise.

I still believe we're getting The Whole Bloody Affair. It's all up to Tarantino, really.

What would Kill Bill Vol. 3 even be about? Is she gonna kill some other guy named Bill?

Yeah, I remember hearing about that. The title of the movie would be weird though since Bill is dead.

I think he will “retire” by just slowing down the films he’s directing. Instead of making a movie every 3 years, he will make one every 5-10. I could also see novels or mini series in between.
