Well I hooked up my fathers first surround sound setup today. He ended up getting the Energy Take 5 and he bought my new ESW-10 and he's happy as hell. I brought over U-571 for a demo and I had to keep replaying scenes for him as he had this big smile on his face. For a satellite system I got to say it sounds pretty dam good. He has it in a 12x18 room and I say it fills it pretty good. He has been a two channel guy for 70yrs so even though it's the Take 5 it's a whole new world of sound to him.

Hey Erict, what was the inspiration behind shoping for new speakers? Are you bored by the Energys or something else?

Congrats for your dad. Glad he is happy.

I think I may have caught the upgradious bug and am exploring my options. I will say one thing is for what I paid for the Energy's I love them One member on the AVS forum calls them a $100 speaker and blows my mind that he can call them that. I think they are the last of the great deals from the old Energy line before Klipsch bought them. I'm not running out and buying speakers tomorrow and will give myself time to excessive my options as to what direction I want to go. One thing I do know is if or when I buy new front's they will be married to me for a long time as my wife will not allow a new every two for me Sometimes I tell myself you have to sit back and enjoy what you have as we all know this hobby like many others can have a sickness we can't control

Wow, I am surprised that someone called them $100 speakers. Even my dad who has B&Ws likes the sound and detail of my system. He was really surprised at the price I got my setup for because he used to install Energy and PSB speakers for The Good Guys before things like Geek Squad and all that came about.

I understand the upgraditist bug, Having heard a lot of other speakers I find that the Energys really impress me to their performance. Really the T55s from PSB were a little nicer, the Dali Concepts, the B&W 600, and MA RS6s series were a little nicer, but the jump in price to any of those were at retail prices 2 times the cost. Many of the speakers that I have heard in the price range of the C series like the Kef C series, PSB Alpha series, Polks, Klipsch, Def Tech, JBLs.... I felt the Energys were nicer then, so for a $700 speaker on down, they are one of the better speakers out there IMO. I am not saying that Energys are the best speakers out there I just think you have to double your budget to get something that really is much better. And once you double your budget the speakers should be better, otherwise I would be Pissed Off.

That is why when I upgrade I want to look at the Energy RCs, PSBs, Dynaudios, Dali's, MAs and that will probably be my short list. But I don't think I will be upgrading for about 4 more years or so. I need to get a new receiver to power whatever speakers I want in the future. Right now I am working the wife for a Marantz 5004, and she knows it. I really have to sell my Sony first tho.... If I can then the beast will be here shortly, because she cannot stand TV speakers anymore..... hell, she was talking about getting the Vampires Assistant last night and said, they didn't have it on Blu-ray, they didn't even have the Crappy, I mean they didn't have it on DVD.

I share many of the same sentiments as you. I had upgraditis too for awhile but I still hung on to my Energy C-series. I love mine too. For the money I paid, nothing can beat them. I am not saying that the higher priced Energy series aren't any better than the C-series. They are of course. It's just that they're overpriced. You have to pay exponentially more for only a modicum of quality. There comes a time when you have to weigh the cost vs gain and decide. For now, I am not upgrading. For me also, I'm going to enjoy what I have for a while. Oh, well that's part of the American dream. Isn't it? Work your tail off. Buy what you can. Enjoy what you can.

I just ignore snobbish remarks like that and the people who make them. Perhaps they spent a lot and that's one way they seem compelled to justify their expensive purchases. I'm with you and Erict. When they went on sale, it was hard to resist. My C-series is one of the best purchases I've ever made for the return I got in speaker quality and sound quality. Like I said before, they can't be beat in that price range unless you pay several times more for speakers that, well, sound like you paid several times more for them.

Yea I thought of upgrading too once, but I would have had to get some PSB T6/T55/T65s, Dali Concepts 8, MA RS6s or B&Ws, all of which are between $1k-1300 a pair.

Those and the Dynaudio Focus 140s will be what I look at in the future, but I have no desire to upgrade for a few years. One, I would have 0 WAF and two, I am actually happy with music and HT performance. I am certianly glad that I didnt get Polks or Klipsch or Boston Acoutics or Kefs, those were all the ones I was thinking of getting also, so I am happy that I ended up with the Energys.

Rwo, I don't know if you remember, but before I got mine, I had PMd you a couple times about yours. Thanks for your help back then.

I am so happy that you got yours back then when the dealers were cutting prices way low for awhile. Then, they were gone. Or, so I thought until I saw your post. You let someone know that the C300s are still available at Vanns. That's a fantastic deal at $129.88 ea with free shipping. If I had 3 ft of space available under my LCD TV, I'd get another C300 for the center and sell the C-C100. However, my 52" Sony is wall mounted and effectively 'carved in stone' right where it is.

Keep up the excellent work on staying on top of the latest news and other stuff happening with Energy Speakers.

If i went the RC-70 route, should I be concerned with my Pioneer 1019 not doing them justice power wise? Also, would pairing the 70's with a RC-mini center be stupid move? The RC-LCR is not on special like the 70's and cost just about as much. If I can do the mini I could swing a sub also. The 30's and mini is my other top option i came up with, and would let me get a sub and surrounds. I hear you guys saying to build it slowly, but tax time is it for me. Other than that, being a single dad of two girls (their mom took off a couple years ago with a drug problem) keeps things tight. The RC towers are super cheap and dont wanna kick myself later (if anyone would like to know the pricing i can get, private message me). Besides, i gotta keep some room in the budget cuz we gotta go Powerwheels shoppin too.

I'm pairing my RC-50 with the mini, should be here this week, so i'll let you know how it works out. The RC-LCR is my first choice but since i'm rockin' the rosenut I don't have many options.

FYI The lcr should drop in price soon, wheter you go RC-30 or RC-70 the LCR would be your best choice, rc-mini maybe with the rc-30 but recommended X-over is 100hz not sure yould make the rc-30 justice with this X-over setting.

Looking at the efficiency the rc-mini center would still hold it's own with the rc-30 without having to raise the gain on it.

Hey there

First I am gonna say, YOU'RE AN AWESOME DAD! To do what you are doing is great and I commend you for it. Sorry to hear about their mom, girls do need their mother, but I hope they understand that you are there and you Love them so much and they can confide girl stuff in you. I have 2 girls and a boy on the way, and went through a rough patch and so I know what your dealing with, to a point.

Now, The RC-30 would not rock the way the RC-70s would, but they may be a great way for you to match the RC-Mini up to the towers and get a Sub so that you have a great setup, maybe not the best when compared to the RC-LCR and RC-70s, but Energy speakers are very good, and perhaps in this case you do what you have to to treat yourself well. YOU DESERVE IT. So do what will make you the happiest.

I just ordered the C-C100 from superiorhifi.com. I'm going to kill myself.

I paid $240.84

I hope my BD experience will be a step up. Just like when I set up the C-200 speakers during Christmas.

Yup RC-30 are awesome speakers, sound really big for their relatively small foot print and unless you have oa really big room, it will not disapoint anyone.

The one thing though is the RC-70 and RC-mini will not work that good you may regret the move.

If you want to use the tax return I'd go RC-30 with the mini center if you can't afford to get the RC-70 and LCR.

Eeven better if the total price of RC-30 and LCR is the same as RC-70 and RC-Mini ceter together then it would be your best choice.

Hell ya it will not disapoint you as good as the C-C50 is, and still hold it's own with the whole c-series, the C-C100 will give you more impact. Will make just about the same differece as your c-200 over your C-100 did.

Beleive I speake from experience having own the C-200 myself and I also experienced the C-C50 with my C-C500 and it did fairly well but the 100 is just more appropriate.

You think I'm done upgrading ? The setup I have is pretty loud. Although I don't play my movies too loud.

Yeah I had to buy it NOW just in case anyone here plans to get it. I don't want to miss out.

Hehe I don't doubt it one second hell of a system you have and in HT with C-200 bookshelve and a big 12 like you have must sound just as insane as my setup.

I experience the same setup as you have except for the sub and center but your future center now that you have C-C100 it's just about the same as I use to have.

Yes more impact in a way it will sound bigger and will better match the sound of the C-200 although the C-C50 does a great job as I mentionned in previous posts. Exactly the reason I did not hesitate to recommend it when it was still impossible to find te C-C100 anymore.

I'm sure you've been happy with the C-C50 but the C-C100 will bring you HT experience a couple of notche higher.

Thanks!

I can't wait! I'll report back, and post new pics when it comes. Hopefully by the end of this week or early next week. I'm excited, and I promise this will be it for a long time.

Default Thanks alot guys....

iI apprecieate the kind words callas. As dificult as the situation sounds, me and the girls have had a wonderful time. I couldnt ask for better girls( Madi 4 and Sydni 2). My last name being Barrett, I had to use the name Syd, from Floyd.

Anyhow, Big Al, I just gotta pull the trigger and get the 70's and the LCR. Theres no way around it. There is, but I just cant pass up the deal going on. I could just about buy three 70's for what the retail price is. The LCR is cheap also compare to retail, just it stretches me to my monetary limit. So pretty much im *****n for no reason and ill stop. I just wish I could hear any Energy speaker before i buy. Although back when i was a batchlor and had cash and fast cars, I had a set of Dynaudio components in my car with a huge PPI amp and PPi flat piston 12" sub. It was one of the best sounding cars I ever heard and my shop sold alot more Dynaudio speakers demoing my car. I want that sound,,, simple, clean, and put a smile on my face.

Pope, let me know how that mini sounds,, Its going to be probly a week till i get the cash and my mind will never be set till i make the phone call. Again I appreciate the kind words and help from you all. I guess I could Bi-amp the 70's to help them out power wise.... hahahaha,,,here we go again.
