I never claimed we wouldn’t have electricity. I’m talking about the limitations of Solar.

Another issue is that a tax could be introduced for carbon in the home. The bigger your footprint, the bigger the tax. I fully suspect this will be introduced. This would mean many households would have to make the decision to watch far less tv lest they end up with a huge bill. Indeed, it may encourage many to scrap the tv altogether. I have said for years, the governments of the world (especially the Tories in the U.K. in my opinion) would find a way to tax our leisure time. Carbon tax for households is coming and it’s coming soon. Be it the U.K. or the US.

One way or another, m going to be right about the tv in the home decreasing.

I'm leaning towards digital. It's cheaper and it's convenient.

Despite that, I'm still going to drop £300 pounds on the new Sony x800M2 (Dolby Vision) and I will be on a mission to collect my top 20 on 4k

1. Matrix - Available
2. Empire Strikes Back
3. Blade Runner - Available
4. Aliens
5. Terminator 2 - Available
6. Robocop
7. Back to the Future
8. Raiders of the Lost Ark
9. Star Wars
10 The Predator - Available
11. Total Recall
12. Die Hard
13. Wrath of Kane - Available
14. Ghostbusters - Available
15. The Dark Knight - Available
16. Evil Dead 2
17. Alien - Available
18. The Thing
19. The Terminator
20. Ninja Scroll

I feel my favorite movies should be watched in the highest fidelity possible and these movies I can/will watch multiple times rather than watch once and not watch again.
But beyond these, I think I will buy digitally because of price and convenience.

Have a great day and remember when eating a chocolate bunny, begin with the ears. Always the ears. It's the law, after all.

The 4K Blu-ray is made from a new master that has a lot of DNR and drastically altered colors. I suggest going with the 2015 Blu-ray instead.

All digital versions have also been replaced with the new master regardless of when they were bought. On physical media customers always have a choice whether they want to watch the latest release or any previous release. Digital forces everyone to use the latest version of everything.

I won't disagree, but in the end it is partialy

1) economic reality: the wealthier you are the better you can use the system for your own advantage (e.g. I fill up my own income tax, there might be deductions that I am entitled to that I don't know of, some one that is real wealthy can use a high price tax guy that knows every in and out of the law and how to shelter his holdings and earnings better than I can)

2) mathimatical reality: e.g. 100$ does not mean the same for someone making 30k a year, 100k a year or 1M a year or 1 Billion a year.

3) situational reality: this brings human nature into the equation, if Joe wants that new kitchen because his is out of date, wants a new car because Tiom bought one, wants to replace his wardrobe because all his clothes are so last year...... it is much harder to become or stay rich compared to Bob that is OK with all his old stuff. My grandpa used to be the guy that would help deliver appliences (not the driver) yet he managed to save, buy a home and leave some money to us when he passed away. A friend of mine makes well over 100k a year but yet he is always broke and living paycheck to paycheck.

My perfect solution is movies delivered on physical media that I can easily backup to a local server, with a Movies Anywhere code.

Right now I have ripped all my Blu-rays using MakeMKV, then using Plex as my server. But it’s not very user friendly. If they could perfect it for the average consumer, that would be great.

IMHO, even if most of the process was automated the average consumer would not pay the cost of the hardware. Then you have the problem of no menus unless you do ISO's which will not work on BDA authorized players. To this day trying to find a media player that does lossless immersive audio, menus, HDR, original frame rate, etc. is a real pain.

AFAIK Kaleidescape is the only device that has BD and UHD BD quality and plays via a media server. The hardware and software is very expensive.

Furthermore, gaming by proxy would then be affected also.

It was a gorgeous day here! Sunny, cloudless sky, reliable light breeze, and with a high temperature of about 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

While some here chose to worry about one highly improbable scenario after another, I spent the day like this:

CalvinHobbs.jpg

A day like this one provided some much needed perspective. It was worlds of fun, too.

It does indeed provide perspective. The hottest Easter on record here. Last year was hottest Summer in decades. Do you see the pattern?

You beat me to it, I was just about to say the same thing about this warm weather. It's been in the mid-70's Fahrenheit for the last three days in my back garden. No doubt normal service will be resumed shortly.....we're known for our rain here in Cheshire.

I’m craving the rain mate. I hate warm weather. Would rather be cold. Of course, it’s only going to get worse.

I don't mind too much temperatures in the low to mid-70's (unless I have to go to work), but yes I totally agree with you, anything like we had last summer where it reached into the 90's was way too high for my liking.

Everything, according to you, is only going to get worse. 77 degrees fahrenheit is hardly a heat wave and it is within normal ranges for this area at this time of year.

Yesterday was a postcard perfect idyllic day and, naturally, instead of seeing the incredible beauty in it, you decided to be the perpetual pessimist that you are. All you ever find is fault. If you peddled an exercise bike half as much as you peddled fear, you'd be in athletic form.

All of those things make a much bigger impact than using a big screen TV for a few hours every day.

You just keep coming up with new reasons why everyone is going to be giving up their TVs in the next couple decades but they all continue to be absurd.
If I watch my TV on average 5 hours per day, my TV's annual power consumption equates to $14.24 for the entire year.

My total electric bill over the last year was $1,794.49. With the estimate given above, that means my TV used 0.8 % of my total power consumption over the past year.

Today's TVs use less power than one, at most two, household lamps with an incandescent light bulb. Here is a link to a power consumption calculator for both LED and OLED TVs:

It is just more much ado about nothing from the worrying-ist worry wart that ever worried. He could give an ulcer an ulcer.
