Might as well be just another Korean-American crapshow like Avatar or whatever.

The ONLY time I deal with dubs is in videogames, and the days of dub-only games (Final Fantasy, Persona, etc.) are, happily, over.
I think what it comes down to is that I don't demand perfection in my entertainment. Don't get me wrong, I understand why pronunciation is a big deal to some but it isn't to me. For example, the character Midoriko in InuYasha is pronounced differently between the original dub and The Final Act dub. I took notice of this and shrugged it off because it isn't a big deal to me. I couldn't imagine being like "I will only watch the series in Japanese due to this mistake, the dub is terrible!" Call it low standards or whatever you want but I don't let the little things get to me. Life is far too short.

If I'm entertained and like what I hear/see, then that's more than enough for me. What's mediocre to some is great to others and I guess that's why we've all got different opinions. Some people like a horror movie like Hereditary, where as I prefer any and all of the Conjuring films over it. See what I mean?

I'm not a moderator and have zero power here, but I'd like to politely request that we just go back to discussing the series. I clicked here to see if anyone had any thoughts on the new translation/dub, and have instead had to wade through pages upon pages of the same asinine argument that seems to pop up with depressing frequency here.

The regulars here have all made their preferences known, as well as their reasons for said preferences.

I'm not interested in "who started it". I'm simply asking that we stop.

You have it all wrong my friend. NO ONE can demand perfection, because it doesn't exist lol. That's that point of art. Even when the artists intends something to be interpreted a certain way, it doesn't mean you're wrong if you see it a different way. That's partially what makes things interesting.

The sub vs dub argument is completely absurd. There are people around here who will assert that one is better than the other. Meanwhile, these same people will willingly sit down and "enjoy" shows like Dragon Ball Super, No Game No Life, and Black Clover.

It's like two people arguing over which gun is more accurate yet neither of them can hit the target. I also love the, "taking the bait" thing. If you can't see how ridiculous that is, I don't know what to tell you lol.

On episode 23 now. I have to say, I find myself appreciating the show more and more as the years go by. As an adult I have way more empathy with the pilots and their struggle (especially Shinji's) than I did when I first saw the show (I think I was like 14). Can also relate much more to the themes of depression and alienation between people who are trying to connect.

I'm not usually one who rewatches stuff, but I think this is like the fifth time I've gone through it completely and it's reconfirmed it as one of my favourite shows ever.

Subs aren't how the show was meant to be seen either it was built to be heard and processed by your auditory system when you are busy reading subs your attention is focused on the wrong part of the screen and you are using a different part of your brain to process that part of the show. I could respect a argument that shows should only be watched in their raw form but subs are not how a show is meant to be seen.

You are in an English speaking country. You only speak English. An English version of the show exists. I don't see why people wouldn't watch a show in their native language (or at least a language the understand) as you can clearly get more out of a language you actually understand.

Basically if you wanna say make the argument you are watching it how the creator intended then you should not be arguing for subs you should be arguing a person puts in the effort learns the language and watches it raw.

Nobody cares anymore man. It's all a matter of opinion and preference and is a stupid argument. This has already been talked to death for the hundredth time yesterday. Please stay on topic as the mods have already told us to do so.

When you watch subtitled stuff enough it all blends together dude. I personally don't miss anything, it's like watching whatever. Not everyone is the same though, that's what alternate language dubs are for!

Subtitles aren't removal or replacement of a part of a work though

Bilingual people don't exist I guess? What about Japanese people who insist on watching English cartoons in English?

They don't because they want to watch it in its original language. Subtitles allow that.

To be fair you technically are watching as "intended." Subtitles are merely a means to facilitate such.

Apologies but, that's last I'm gonna address this. No more! lol

Say what you will about Netflix's treatment, at least it isn't a total disaster like Manga's treatment of End of Evangelion. (SPLOOSH)

I dont really care if Japanese people think English cartoons should be watched in english. I think people should watch a watch a show in whatever format they prefer without trying to take the moral high ground that others are watching a show the wrong way. My point was the argument of sub dub or even raw is just an argument of people trying to be snobs about their viewing preference watching sub dub or raw their is no wrong answer.

Anyway the second portion of my comment was just a word play joke paraphrasing what the person I quoted said to make the same argument the sub person made for dubs just on the otherside of the coin as it were. that is why it has so many potential straw mans in it because i had to phrase it to stay similar to his comment.

Actually your vision has a very narrow range of focus where things are sharp in focus and you remember them in detail. Your brain is good at blending things together so you think you have seen things in focus but your peripheral vision gives you low definition not very memorable information. Theirs a reason when movies have multiple languages they try to limit action during the scenes where you are suppose to be reading subtitles. Its also the reason people tend to not notice set mistakes when multiple takes of a scene are taken and small things in the background change without most people noticing them.

Apparently now we're using our brains and eyes wrong, and subtitles are only allowed in low action scenes?

Please continue
