With this gen, for millions there was a 12-18 month delay in getting hold of the PS5. Which meant some had only had the console for a year or slightly more, it was a HUGE ask to fork out even more for a headset. For that money, several really big hitters should have been ready to go, otherwise there was always going to be problems. Those that owned gen1 simply needed more offerings, that was certainly a factor for me. Once the amazing novelty of VR wears off (it took around 3 years for me) you really have to hit several home runs. You need iconic names, you need AAA to go with the clever, purpose built indies. This thing needs to break into double figures and sell 10 million at the very least, otherwise developers and studios to just lose interest. It should have been a Q4 2024 release at the very earliest. Now, through bad timing and a lack of true commitment, Sony have killed VR, or at least cemented its place as a very niche section of the gaming market. All hopes lies with Quest now unfortunately. It saddens me, but the game offerings very much have a feel of been there, done that. I don’t know who that guy is you mentioned, I’m basing this on 6 years of VR experiences and researching the game offerings this gen. Money isn’t a factor, I was considering buying the Vision Pro after all, and I’m not making excuses. I’m enjoying flat games again, but I was passionate about VR (I was a regular in the VR thread) so I have no qualms if there was a comprehensive library. First gen fans needed convincing of ongoing support, better visuals, more potential of multiplayer and better controls. They managed 2 out of 4, that’s not good enough. More commitment was required, and a flagship title was needed at launch. Last edited by Steedeel; 03-22-2024 at 10:08 AM. |

The cost of PSVR2 games went up above what PSVR1 games were I think. So the average price went up maybe $10 per game? At least looking at the store, I'm seeing newer games at 29.99 to 39.99, some 59.99. 59.99 for a PSVR1 game was unheard of but this is more advanced VR tech, so I can see that.
It is good to see more new trailers of PSVR2 games being listed on Sony's main Playstation Youtube channel. I wonder how that Ghostbusters VR game turned out? The new Frozen Empire movie in theaters this weekend. Walking around and moving in PSVR2 games is no doubt 100 times better than those Move sticks for PSVR1 Move games from what I saw. Having only stayed with the base PS4 controller with the light bar. So that's what they were planning with the light bar in 2013, with the PSVR1 in 2016. |

As for costs, the VR games have regularly been in PSN sales, and extremely good deals of up to 50-70% off at times. I don't think I've bought one full price since PSVR2 launched and I picked up a few things. And often they sell in cheaper bundles, e.g. Saint & Sinners 1+2. Couple those with being in the sales and it's an even bigger discount. There have been a handful of bigger VR titles charging more. Legendary Tales is one of those, but it's a massive dungeon crawler rpg. But more cheap games than expensive ones. |

Sony's Sale Events of up to 75%+ off are nice and sometimes worth sorting through for a gem or more. I spent $60 on the last early March sale event and got 10 games out of it that would've cost 7 times that amount if I bought them on release. Plus, when most of them are just okay, I don't feel bad if they were only 10% of the original cost. I can say that was true of many PSVR1 games, which I was relieved I waited for a sale price on. Thankfully there were some great games in the pile of PSVR1 games I have. But even the ones I don't like are interesting to revisit just for the immersive stereo 3D and surrounding visuals of VR. Good to hear you're enjoying PSVR2. |

Hellsweeper 2 just had its update for dynamic foveated rendering and now looks amazing on PSVR2. The closest game visually to a Devil May Cry in VR or something. It's also in the Spring sale on PSN. I just picked it up after holding out.

Finally, a 3rd person game filling in the lack of Astrobot Missions, Playroom and Astro Bot for PSVR2, called Max Mustard VR. It looks heavily inspired by Astrobot, where Max is able to float in the air with the jet boost like Astrobot. This looks really good. If I ever buy PSVR2 when it's on deep sale (199.99 or less brand new by some miracle), or if it gets a lot more 3rd person games, this would be on top of my list.

The PSVR2 really needs more games like this IMO, so it's good to see someone took initiative where Sony could not care less it seems for Astrobot on PSVR2 now in 2024. |

Ven VR is a fun 3D platformer on the headset whilst people wait for Max Mustard. I'm not sure whether I already talked about it before on here. I played and 100% it, very cool game. It definitely makes me grieve not having Astrobot, but equally there's so much other cool stuff out now and around the corner like Behemoth, Wanderer, Arken Age, Phasmophobia, Firmament, Aces of Thunder, Alien Incursion etc, I never feel wanting for more stuff to explore.

If this keeps up with more new 3rd person games for PSVR2, that would be great and could get me on board. I understand first person VR games, but tend to feel dizzy with them more often. 3rd person games like Astrobot or Moss 1,2, zero nausea/dizziness, but they are amazing experiences in VR too. |

Your comment makes it sound like you only like 3D platformer games in VR, which is fair enough if true. Those do seem few and far between though even on non-PSVR VR platforms.
On that note, impressions of a game I’m going to be jumping into as soon as humanly possible: Behemoth |

But yeah, that's a big reason I really enjoy the 3rd person view games. Or stationary 1st person games. I understand why they have so many of them. Motion sickness is a real factor for some PSVR 1 and 2 players unfortunately. Behemoth looks really good in a Shadow of the Colossus way. I'd be interested in it. FPS in VR, I'd have to avoid unless there was a non-enemy mode. Bound, a 3rd person adventure game, I felt dizzy playing that during the roller coaster levels. RE7 VR, the garage car chase boss, almost vomited from that one. |

Yeah, my son plays Pavlov on his PCVR. He was so sweet and bought me Pavlov for the PSVR2 for my birthday and when we tried to play together, I got so sick within minutes. I felt so bad. We tried a second time a couple of days later and I was able to last a couple of hours before feeling nauseous again.

As a kid reading a book or video game magazine in a car being driven by someone else, I got very nauseous and had to close my eyes and put the book down after a few rough turns or fast backroad hills. That's how I feel with FPS in PSVR most times if turning or stopping too fast. Such a weird thing how the mind thinks it's real, because it's linked directly to the head movements of the PSVR headset. |

That's a pretty intense game with a lot of motion etc. It's usually best to play some less motion intense stuff for a while, then short sessions of motion intense stuff to build up. I got pretty nauseous pretty fast with stuff like Horizon, GT7, RE Village etc., but just played in short bursts and eventually got to where I could play as long as I could stand to be in the headset (2-3 hours) with no issues. |

Skyrim VR on PSVR1, I thought I'd be fine with that, but discovered it's the jumping that made me feel sick more than just walking about. Floating, and then that sudden stop on landing.
![]() Having to wear a headset that closes off the outside world to others. Chance of feeling sick after using VR. I think those will be long-term limiting factors to the adoption of Virtual Reality, unless they can make it look like real life and real motion, like set up to a walking machine like in Ready Player One the movie. |

I also have sinus issues and I think that throws off my balance with that headset pushing on my face. I didn't experience it with PSVR1. I actually prefer the fit of the PSVR1 over the PSVR2. |

I’ve heard differing opinions on that one. It’ll probably come down to the shape of the head. I can’t compare against another headset as never had one before it, but can say I’ve never felt PSVR2 to be uncomfortable but again don’t really have it as a gauge to compare to the first PSVR. By its nature any headset is still putting a hunk of plastic on your face at the end of the day. Comfort mileage will always vary I’d imagine versus not having a hunk of plastic on the face.

I think in the end, if it doesn't hurt after 2 to 4 hours of playing while wearing the PSVR2, and it's comfortable, that is what matters. I haven't tried it on. But even if it were in stores like Best Buy, I still wouldn't try it as of germs from others. [Show spoiler]
