Anyhow, Big Al, I just gotta pull the trigger and get the 70's and the LCR. Theres no way around it. There is, but I just cant pass up the deal going on. I could just about buy three 70's for what the retail price is. The LCR is cheap also compare to retail, just it stretches me to my monetary limit. So pretty much im *****n for no reason and ill stop. I just wish I could hear any Energy speaker before i buy. Although back when i was a batchlor and had cash and fast cars, I had a set of Dynaudio components in my car with a huge PPI amp and PPi flat piston 12" sub. It was one of the best sounding cars I ever heard and my shop sold alot more Dynaudio speakers demoing my car. I want that sound,,, simple, clean, and put a smile on my face.

Pope, let me know how that mini sounds,, Its going to be probly a week till i get the cash and my mind will never be set till i make the phone call. Again I appreciate the kind words and help from you all. I guess I could Bi-amp the 70's to help them out power wise.... hahahaha,,,here we go again.

Hehe spoil yourself I just thought you might want to wait for the LCR price to drop even more before getting it but hell yeah this is the ultimate HT experience and you'll see how laid back these speakers are. They are true performers and have won many awards.

You will appreciate the warmth they bring to with music and you will never get tired of listening to them.

Enjoy!!!!

hey no worries brother. I had a boss who was a single dad the same way you are. They had fun too, his kids were older so they really were a mad house, one of the rooms was the soccer room... if that says enough.

You could look on Energys website at where to buy and see if there are any dealers near you to buy from. Have you tried world wide stereo, they have some stores in PA. The RC-70s should keep you happy, they have been compared to many other expensive speakers. They may not keep up with the Dynaudio Focus 220s, but it doesn't sound like you are spending $3k for speakers either.

What is your budget?

I've always maintained that one's system is only as good as it's speakers. If you do go this route, you definitely won't regret it for the quality of sound and speaker craftsmanship. Even if it means waiting a while to complete the system (5.1), you'll be happy in the knowledge that what you have gives you great quality for the price.

Realistically, you should be able to find a pair of RC-R's for around $400+ and as a suggestion, an ED A2-300 10" sub for $350. So, for about $800 more down the road, you'll be able to complete the system.

May I just rephrase it's only as good as the worse component of your entire setup.

Have you tried playing music on a cheap DVD player? I did with a Phillips upscaling DVD player. Even with good speakers and receiver the song Shine from Collective Soul gave my Energy speakers and aweful crackling noise with that Electric guitar. Lots of distortion, not very ear pleasing.

But yeah if your speakers sucks then the whole setup sucks

You were not to far the A2-250 is the 10 inch version, Excellent 10 also but because of the price drop on the 300 every one is jumping on it.

I ended up using the bypass after all and let the receiver take care of it. It sounds nice and tight with good punch now. I guess I just don't have the wherewithal to make all the necessary minute adjustments. It really is a delicate balance of volume, phase, crossover frequency and sub placement. But it sounds good now! Can't wait to try out "2012".

I just set up my new rosenut RC-mini cc. love it but i'm hoping I can still find the RC-LCR.

Question fellas,

Since this speaker is rated at 78hz, would it perform well as a surround speaker? I'm trying to decide if I should buy another one before they're gone. need some opinions

Does your Elite allow Seperate X-over settings? IF so I don't see any constraint and yes they would make great surround speaker X-Over at 100hz.

BTW if any has the chance to look inside an RC-Mini, you will soon realize that the 4" driver used in it is absolutely amazing.

Magnet size is extremely impressive.

Mmm from what I see in your owner's manual on page 91 your Elite uses a global X-over point for all speakers set to Small, you sure can use full range for your RC-50 by setting them up to Large but your Bass can become a true overkill in some movies.

For Example on the Harman Kardon I can setup the X-over by pair of speakers.

Anyhow, I believe you can use increment of 5 on the Pioneer so you could use 85hz or 90hz setting and I think it would be just fine even with the mini as surrounds.

FYI Energy recommends using 100hz X-Over with the RC-minis.

So basically you go to the on screen speaker menu, set all speakers to small and et the X-over to 90hz. Set your Sub to bypass if your sub does not have the bypass switch put the X-Over switch all the way to the max and put your sub volume to about 50% to 60%.

My choice is either 80hz or 100hz, which is better for my set up? Should I keep my fronts at the large setting? all i'm running currently is 3.0 RC-50's and RC-mini cc. also when adjusting the dB, what exactly is it changing?

As Callas said try 80hz should be good and set all speakers to small if you have sub, if you don't have a sub, set your rc-50 (fronts) to Large and set the RC-Mini center to small with X-Over at 80hz.
