It just seems strange then that the four short films ended up moving to The Woman in the Dunes release if the DVD set is still in-print. Has there ever been a DVD --> BD upgrade of a single film from a boxset?

It's clear that the plans for these 3 films most likely isn't a straight blu-ray upgrade of the dvd set, but as to what the future plans of the other 2 films from the set are, that's anyone's guess. Last edited by shadedpain4; 05-17-2016 at 01:23 AM. |

It's mesmerizing-Besides the two main characters; the sand itself becomes a character with its everchanging shapes and movement. I don't care for In the Realm.... at all but can sit and watch Woman in the Dunes absolutely transfixed. It's that hypnotic!

Sure thing. The closest example I think of is Vampyr. It was listed for a bit on Criterion.com with the same message that the Teshigahara set now sports, and it eventually reappeared on the site in its current book-less version.

The closest example is what happened to the 3 Films by Louis Malle box set. In that case, Criterion has only released one of the three films on Blu, Au revoir les enfants, and that Blu has all (or nearly all) of the extras from the Box set's supplements DVD. Where it differs from the Teshigahara box set is the Louis Malle box set is listed as OOP, but the other two films are still available as individual DVDs.

I've seen Jacques Rivette Out 1 mentioned here, so in case someone hasn't noticed I just wanted to mention that apparently the complete long version is playing on Netflix US as a series in HD (not sure if it is the same transfer of the blu-rays though).
It is odd that it was at the very bottom of the foreign movies category, usually this kind of stuff tends to get a bit more highlighted on my account so maybe not many have seen it is there. |

Hadn't noticed The New World release mentions a book in the supplements, and with 3 discs... digipak practically confirmed
![]() As for today's announcements, McCabe & Mrs. Miller cover looks perfect for a digipak, but it only mentions an essay so it probably wont be. |

Maybe they'll find a home on Filmstruck. I'd be cool with that.

Any fans of The Long Day Closes?
I just watched it for the first time and really struggled through it. The pacing was mega slow (and I usually have a stomach for slow films) and I couldn't find any compelling tug in the narrative. It picked up a little more in the latter half of the film once school starts, but was still tedious. Maybe I'm just over films about boys coming of age with a catholic guilt complex. It sort of reminded me of Beasts of the Southern Wild or Pan's Labyrinth, in the way that magical realism provides an escape or means of growth except that here the boy's life isint that awful, and his imagined sequences are quite joyless. |

I would jump out of my skin if the set got released on Blu-ray. Olivier's Hamlet is exquisite. |
