Nah, films are my passion. While some may look forward to their weekend drinking and partying, mine are film night with a nice takeaway. Boring to some sure, heaven to me. Why would I deprive myself of something I love?

None of this makes any sense, and no one is actually asking for any of this stuff to be censored other than clueless executives who apparently base their decision making on thin, totally spurious evidence, but anyone who wants it can still easily get all of it.
The DVD's I have (Region 2) are the individual volumes (6 in total) released in 2004 rather than the re-released 'collectors boxset' which appeared a couple of years later. As I understand, they are exactly the same as the single volumes, just merely re-packaged. The cartoon that is missing is The Million Dollar Cat for some strange reason, yet arguably the most controversial one called His Mouse Friday is included, albeit in a censored version. I'm sure there's another cartoon missing, but can't think at the moment which one it is.

But yes you're right, quite a number of them on the UK DVD's are censored, and yet others are uncut. I don't know who decides to edit one episode over another, and I have never heard a cartoon fan complaining about racist characters. It appears that the opinions of one or two snowflakes carry more weight than those of the general public, and they seem to think it's their duty to decide what we should find offensive. There was even a story in the press a while back that a woman complained about Tom smoking (I'm guessing that would be Texas Tom).

This is the reason I love the US blu-ray edition (Volume 1) which contain the uncut cartoons. It's just a shame Warners aren't willing to release the remaining Tom & Jerry shorts - even if it's just the Fred Quimby cartoons, I'd be well pleased with that. Throw in some Tex Avery shorts as well, and I'd be one happy man.

As for the Dumbo situation, I haven’t seen any actual source given that states Disney is going to do anything to the film, just a bit in the Hollywood Reporter article that doesn’t even indirectly credit a source; it just appears to be pulled from out of nowhere. So who is saying it? Otherwise, there’s just a 2011 comment from Iger about Song of the South, which they obviously weren’t going to include on the service (that’s nothing new and unsurprising.) If they were to censor Dumbo, why would they merely delete one character and not the others, who are essentially the same? Or why wouldn’t they simply delete the audio that mentions the name Jim Crow instead?

Doesn’t make any sense, so I doubt the report until there’s any real evidence and, once again, I’ve never heard anyone ask for this because 99.9% of the people don’t care.
As I have said all along, digital is the worst thing that could possibly happen to the film industry (at this point). This only reinstates those feelings.

Physical media is almost dead. Best Buy and a bunch of other places stopped carrying CDs awhile ago. Even on Amazon, it's hard to get some titles. Like I tried to buy Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother on CD. Amazon doesn't have it. eBay people want a lot of money for it. Or I could get it on iTunes for $10. Same is starting to happen with movies. Best Buy doesn't even have anything in store except the latest releases. Some other stores are carrying more stock (Walmart, Target). You pretty much have to go to Amazon or get it on VUDU or something. I think manufacturers are trying to kill off discs too. Look at the new Xbox they're making that won't have a disc drive. Let these companies go out of business. When they do, people will just build an HTPC to play all their stuff. After the whole Cinavia debacle, I couldn't care less if Sony goes out of business.

I'm the same way. I'd rather make something to eat or to snack on, sit down on my couch, put a movie on and enjoy it. Drinking and partying is fun when you're 21. When you get to be in your 30s like me, not so much fun anymore.

Are these the ones you're after? They're on Amazon UK - there appears to be 2 different CD's available.

Nah, nowhere near dead. People put far too much focus on stores. I have been using Amazon for years and i could get hold of virtually anything via Amazon last year and this. That is across their european stores as well as US store.

Online is easy and you can get next day delivery. Once I can no longer buy 70 titles per year and that dwindles to half that number, it might be time to worry.

In the US the Walmart in Hendersonville, NC (small town) has completely redone their physical movie display. This display is much more prominent and better organized than the old display. This makes the 2nd one of this type of redo in my area that I am aware of. Apparently Walmart thinks there is plenty of life left in physical otherwise they would not spend large sums on new displays.

Pink Floyd: Atom Heart Mother on compact disc is readily available at Amazon and for just $11.93.

https://www.amazon.com/Atom-Heart-Mo...s%2C152&sr=8-1

I even added the item to my cart to verify the price. You are misreading the product page. Go to the product page and look at the right margin below the Prime Music "listen now" box and the page reads "$11.93, In Stock, Ships and sold by Amazon.com."

Scroll down to the "frequently bought together" offer below the large cover art image and you will again see that the price for the compact disc is just $11.93.

Physical media is nowhere near to being dead; your hyperbole notwithstanding. I buy 20-30 titles per month and I have no trouble finding titles to buy either in store or online. Stores in different areas stock differently; the media sections at my local stores are unchanged.

Blu-ray sales are barely down since 2014; they are only down 1.2% for 2018. DVD sales are the main cause to the overall drop in physical media sales, but even they are in no danger of disappearing.

I have become too used to a certain way of life. That’s why I have to work until I’m 70. I wanted a nice house, I wanted a HT, I guess that’s the price to pay. I don’t want it to be that way but unless a wealthy woman wants to marry me, that’s the way it is.

Yes my Walmart too has large displays, but no one looking. Even your picture there shows one person. When I go take a look, I'm the only one there and I'm looking at the pricing of 4K's...$25-$30 and not coming down!

Yes, but what you don’t realise is there were loads of people there until you turned up. .

They must have heard you spouting about digital.

Walmart knows how to run their business; they would not allocate space, and definitely not "large displays" at that, for merchandise that does not sell. How do they survive without the "benefit" of knowing your observations?

What you see during your 5 minutes in the movie section does not prove anything. Most Walmarts operate 24/7. Perhaps it is possible that people shop the video section during the 23 hours and 55 minutes of the day that you are not there? Maybe you are the only person there because you have offensive body odor? Maybe people feel themselves getting dumber in your proximity? I feel that way after just reading your posts, yet alone being near to you.

Walmart has an entire display, at my store, anyways, of 4K discs for $15-$20. You always fabricate and exaggerate. Even in general, as someone who buys 4K discs, unlike you, I rarely pay over $25 for one. 4K discs go on sale constantly.

There are currently 32 4K disc titles listed for under $20 in the blu-ray.com Deals section right now. 18 of them are on sale for under $15. There are even 2 for under $10, not including that you can also buy all three Despicable Me movies in a box set for just $30. You don't buy 4K discs; we do not need you to tell us what they cost. We know because we actually buy them.

On my last trip to Walmart, I was in the home and garden section, and no one was looking at lawn mowers. It must mean that people everywhere no longer buy them! People must have switched to keeping miniature goats to graze their lawns instead. Yeah, that must be it.

Wendell's snapshot is a single moment in time. Maybe Wendell was being considerate and he was deliberately trying to avoid photographing strangers for an image he planned to post online? When I take a picture of merchandise displays, I do my best to keep people out of the picture.

Very similar to the supermarkets close to where I am, so there's definitely life left in discs. There's the Asda and Sainsbury's stores about 10 minutes drive from where I live which have a really good selection of titles; if I want a dedicated store, I have to travel a little further afield.

Even if all stores closed, we would still be fine with online options for Blu-ray.

Absolutely right. I don't recall a case where I couldn't buy a title online somewhere, and in the case of CD's, trust me, I've managed to get hold of some quite obscure imports. So, physical media is alive and well, and long may it continue.

Are you saying the Walmart in your area has new displays similar to the picture?

Click here then click search for UHD titles from Walmart then click the $15-20 range.

Recently I was in Lowe's looking a various plumbing items, there was no one looking at commodes over a period of about 15 minutes, does that mean folks are taking a dump less?
