So I see that Michigan AD Dave Brandon is resigning. Is he part of the problem?

Michigan fans have gotten their wish:

Quote:
Brett McMurphy ‏@McMurphyESPN
Dave Brandon is resigning as Michigan’s AD, source told @ESPN. Press conference this afternoon
I don't believe for a second that this is a resignation, he was given the option of resigning or being fired. I've never seen an AD more disliked by a school's fan base, with a donor paying for 2,000 shirts Fire Dave Brandon shirts to be handed out before tomorrow's homecoming game. Between hiring Brady Hoke, having the most expensive student tickets in the B1G, and changing the student seating arrangement with no input from students, it seemed like everything Brandon did angered the fan base.

SI's Stewart Mandel said this could end up being a good thing for Brady Hoke. He said that it usually takes several months to hire an AD and if they have an interim AD hire the coach it could scare away many candidates who would not want to take the job without knowing who his boss is going to be. I'm not sure if that's truly the case. Last year when Texas' AD retired they had a replacement hired in a month. I would think Michigan would want to have a replacement hired by the end of the year so there's no uncertainty when they fire Hoke.

Just because the top team of the conference has won the national championship more times than not doesn't mean the conference as a whole is leagues above other major conferences. These teams don't play each other. Until they do, then it is all conjecture.

I never said ESPN said that. They however lead you to believe that with all their SEC feet kissing.

They will have a temp AD in place today as Michigan wants Harbaugh everything is being put into place to go after Jim in January. As far as the ticket proces go they shit on 90% of the fanbase when they announced 2 weeks ago that student pricing only was getting a 40% reduction in price. Believe me as a MSU fan as much as I enjoy kicking Michigans ass week in and out they need to be better.

The man expected to be chosen to replace Dave Brandon on an interim basis as the University of Michigan’s athletic director is a former UM football player with a long career as a corporate executive.

James Hackett, who played for legendary Wolverines coach Bo Schembechler in the 1970s, spent 19 years as CEO of Steelcase, a Grand Rapids-based maker of office furniture, retiring earlier this year. He is serving a one-year stint as vice chairman and remains a board member.

I just don't see Jim Harbaugh going back to college. I don't think he'll return to San Francisco next season, but he'll have plenty of NFL offers and I don't know why he'd want to go back to college coaching. I think Les Miles, Hugh Freeze, and Dan Mullen are more realistic candidates. They've struck out at Miles the last 2 coaching searches but maybe he'll think he'd have a better chance at making the playoff in the weak B1G rather than the brutal SEC West. With Freeze and Mullen they could think it'll be nearly impossible to keep winning at their current schools and maybe they should get out while their stock is as high as possible.

Dan Mullen will also be looked at by florida. Will Muschamp will likely be let go after this season, depending on how they finish. and i think for him to keep his job he'll need to not only beat Georgia, but absolutely destroy them and make a statement. and then he'll need to beat fsu. i don't think either of those are likely.....but you never know.

in my opinion, that's they only way he keeps his job. if not, he'll be let go and they'll probably go after Mullen rather vigorously.

Why do you care so much what ESPN thinks? The Championship Committee isn't SEC biased. It's made up of people linked to all conferences. They're the only people who matter now that there's a 4 team playoff.

Mark Stoops, who has Kentucky on the cusp of a bowl berth in his second season as coach, has been awarded with a raise and extension that will take him through the 2019 season and pay him an average salary of more than $3.6 million per year.

"I want to show my commitment," Stoops said Friday. "If you know anything about myself, about my family, past history, whether it be with my brothers and different people. loyalty's a pretty big thing with us, and I certainly feel the loyalty to this program, to our players and all the people that have been so involved and helped us get to where we're at and where we're going."

Effective Nov. 1, Stoops will earn a pro-rated sum of $3 million for this season, and that figure will increase by $250,000 each season through 2019. He will earn $3.25 million in 2015, $3.5 million in 2016, $3.75 million in 2017, $4 million in 2018 and $4.25 million in 2019.

Also, as part of his incentives package over and above his salary, Stoops stands to make an additional $250,000 for each win beginning with the seventh win each season.

"Mark is guiding our program in the direction we all want it to go, and we are proud to reward that," Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart said. "I was confident Mark was right for this job when I hired him, but he has exceeded my expectations. From leading a group of young men, to recruiting, to fundraising, to becoming an important part of the Lexington community, Mark has embraced and excelled in all facets of being Kentucky head football coach."

Stoops, whose Wildcats (5-3, 2-3 SEC) travel to Missouri on Saturday, does not have a buyout, meaning he's free to leave for another job without penalty if he so chooses.

But recruiting at an unprecedented level for Kentucky, Stoops has said repeatedly that his focus is on making Kentucky a contender in the SEC. The Wildcats are currently 26th nationally in ESPN's recruiting rankings for the 2015 class, and their 2014 class was ranked 20th nationally.

On the field, Kentucky has already won more games this season than the previous two seasons combined. The Wildcats had lost 17 straight SEC games before ending that drought earlier this season with back-to-back victories over Vanderbilt and South Carolina.

"I am excited about the progress our team has shown on the field, but this is as much about the next five years as it is the last one and a half," Barnhart said. "As I've said before, I believe we can compete at the highest level in the toughest conference. Mark is the coach to take us there."

Barnhart added that Stoops' staff members would also receive new deals.

Two of Kentucky's three losses this year were close ones. The Wildcats lost in triple overtime at Florida and took No. 1 Mississippi State to the fourth quarter last week before falling 45-31. Kentucky is averaging 31.6 points per game this season, well ahead of the 17.9 points the Wildcats averaged in 2012, the season before Stoops arrived.

With Stoops joining the $3 million club in the SEC, that means all 13 of the head coaches at the league's public universities make $3 million or more per year. Vanderbilt is a private institution and doesn't release salary figures for first-year coach Derek Mason.
If I was a Kentucky fan, not having a buyout would concern me. Mark Stoops has done a fantastic job at Kentucky, and that has to have gotten the attention of other schools.

Yeah it is worrisome. He's not going to leave though unless it's for one of those can't turn down jobs. I think he's here next season. It's the season after that I start to really worry.

Is Kentucky's AD a complete idiot and moron? If not, then he's on the verge to be, no buyout clause in the contract?

It's not stupid. If he wants to leave, he is going to leave. Simple as that, buyout clause or not, if he wants to go he will. Any coach in the country will if the right opportunity comes up. Why try to hamstring someone? For a few million dollars?

Nick Saban's contract doesn't have a buyout clause in it, either.

i don't think it's a bad thing. if you find who you think is a good/great coach for your school, then why not give them what they need to stay and be productive?

Maybe it's just me, but I think the big name schools should put buyout clause in the head coaches contract cause you're tempting fate that another big name school sweeps in and get them w/o having to pay the school that the coach is leaving from.

Right. It would be hard to pry Saban from Alabama but if he wants to go he will go. A buyout clause isn't going to stop another big name school from taking him.

I feel coaches and student athletes should be able to leave if they want. Coaches change schools all the time but student athletes are put behind a wall that multiple people have to sign off on.

If another big program comes along and really wants a coach they will pay what it takes to get him. Buyout clauses just gives a school some money if their coach decides to bail.
