So is there any differences between the 20th and 25th Anniversary editions?

- BD100
- better compression
- Dolby Vision
- a new anniversary featurette (Zoom conversation I think, but not sure)

Just the new Steelbook is ugly as f*#k. Got it anyway.

I really don't mind the steelbook art tbh. At least, it looks a lot better in person than it does in stock photos.

So I got this alongside other ones from eBay blowitouthere store, shipped to re-shipper in the USA and then forwarded to the UK. The Steelbook was damaged. I told them that I am unable to return outside UK and after 3 emails, they asked me to return to a UK address (Entertainment Woodland House, HAYES).

Looks like they are the same company as DeepDiscount and WOWHD.

I've always really enjoyed this movie; watched it on the New Year's Eve and it holds up really well. The special effects in this movie still look very good after more thank 20 years! Same with Jurassic Park.

I don't have the new steelbook yet because my projector doesn't support DV, but I'll pick it up eventually...or if a standard version is released with DV.

I just saw the new UHD now. Man, what a fun movie!

It's also quite a looker. Grain is tamed a tad simply because the movie isn't as overblown brightness wise as it was in the 20th Anniversary UHD, certainly not due to any DNR. The whole movie is bright, but it's much more balanced and the higher bitrate makes the grain oh soo fine (even the 500 speed indoor stuff was much more distinct and seemed less obtrusive), especially in the outdoor scenes on the stellar 50 ASA film. When you get to closeups of the actors, you can actually see the peach fuzz on their faces. Damn. At times I cannot believe this was shot in 1997 because the detail is just insanely high as well as the richness of the color. It is truly a reference and demo disc (hah! I did it ) and a testament to Sony's care and attention to authentic, film-like transfers.

Edit: There is nothing wrong with the 5.1 track as I initially posted. For some reason my AVR was forcing DTS to stereo but it didn't do that for Atmos.

The only frustrating part was the audio, specifically the 5.1 track as I always pick the original mix if I can. My 5.2 surrounds aren't ideal in terms of placement so I don't always hear them as distinctly as I should (long story but that's how it will be until I get my own place), but when the football game started I noticed something odd: where were the surround channels? I did a channel check on my AVR and they were playing, so no disconnected or damaged speakers. I walked right up to them and put my ear on the speaker even during the loud football game and nothing was coming out, but when I switched to the Atmos mix it was there. The original UHD nor the BD have this issue, so I had to watch it in Atmos the rest of the way. That was a bit frustrating. Has anyone else noticed this?

Does anyone know of a good contact for Sony? I'm guessing they won't do a recall, but you never know. Worth a shot.
consumer@sphecustomersupport.sony.com

They will reply and ask you to provide a video that explains the issue, but eventually won't fix anything. That has been my experience with: Ghostbuster 1 and 2 and District 9 (never bothered with Labyrinth).

With my initial reply, which I deleted, mainly because I wanted to provide the email address, I also didn't grasp the full scope yet. If this is true, did Sony this time not only add borked/"not really" OG audio with the re-release, but manage to bork the OG audio present on the initial release? Now that'd be rich.

Good spot.

I remember spotting a missing few seconds in the original BD release (fallback into the compound nif memory serves me right) Sony did re-issue. Do contact them about this. I will try to reproduce this issue at my end.

Yeah, that must've been the one time they fixed something, because people keep referring to this one when it comes to Sony doing a recall.

Maybe they should just stop putting audio on their UHDs completely, this is getting ridiculous

That would violate rights of humans who are not hard of hearing.

My ex has the same problem as you (tinnitus). Think it has gotten better a bit recently.

My right ear is sensitive to certain high frequencies and it is impaired above 8 Khz based on sonogram results.

When something like this happens, a UHD drive, MakeMKV and MKVToolNix could come to the rescue.

Thank you and thanks to the others for posting the email address.

I did spot check the audio a few other times including the end credits, no rear channels there either when Atmos had it.

Dug my YT video showing the editing error on the original BD (sorry about the bad quality).

I remember emailing Sony about this and eventually they did a re-issue.

As if that's a reasonable option for most people.

Will cost around $200-$250 which is less than the price of a one-click Steelbook boxset of one film

But as I'm not the sort of c*nt who buys such a costly thing then your comparison is lost on me
