Their prices are already some of the lowest on the Warner Archive titles. Key Largo, I Confess, and The Wrong Man can each be had for less than $12.

I got those 2 Hitchcock films and Ford's Fort Apache. I bought last week when they had 10 % off. I suppose 15 off would make that purchase close to $30. Can't beat that right now.

It's hard to add other Japanese blus to the order because so many lack English subtitles (including the Terrorizers BD from Japan, but you can still get the English subtitled Taiwanese BD in some places). So I would just get more Ozu discs as they all look amazing and have English subtitles. There's a 4K Blu of Equinox Flower from Japan that looks phenomenal and the movie is beautiful!
The exchange rate must not be too good right now - Late Spring is around $45. I'm torn about what to do. Thanks, Fabs, and the others here, for the input.

Same here. I've always been on the fence of buying the current BD but now I'm glad I never did it.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Looks like The Red Shoes and 400 Blows might be bumped up higher priority on my wishlist.

Does anybody recommend upgrading to the Criterion releases of Inside Llewyn Davis and Moonrise Kingdom? I already own the standard releases and am on the fence. From what I can tell PQ is comparable (maybe I'm wrong on that), but how about the rest of the package?

Got the 2009 remasters of four Kraftwerk albums plus a few imports, Sioxsie and the Banshees kaleidoscope and Nitzer Ebb Showtime. Also got Metropolis reissue of KMFDMs Naive and Alien Sex Fiend singles collection. All British and German as well as stuff I been putting off getting for too long.

Best thing about deep discount besides $25 free shipping is the imports. Now, all they need is a gift card so I can ask for that instead of an Amazon gift card.

Those 2009 Kraftwerk remasters are golden. Back in 2009, I bought the big box set with all of the remastered albums. Kraftwerk are finally coming to Atlanta in September, after almost 30 years of absence from this area, and I'm going to be on the seventh row.

A few months ago, I ordered the two Classic Album Selection box sets that Siouxsie and the Banshees just released for less than $40 shipped. (Basically their entire album catalogue in two inexpensive sets) I already owned a few of the albums, but this was a cheap way to fill in the gaps. Kaleidoscope is one of my favorites of theirs, next to Scream and Hyaena.

Good buy on the Nitzer Ebb album. I've got all of the Nitzer Ebb CDs at home as well, as I've been a fan since the late 1980s.

I am lacking on KMFDM albums, and I only have a few Alien Sex Fiend songs on various compilations. I should remedy that, since I grew up hearing both bands.

This post has jack to do with Criterion, so I'll just say that Deep Discount DVD recently shipped my Blu-ray of Dr. Strangelove, Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. I'm hoping to receive it in a day or two.

I saw The Music Room on Sunday for the first time. Just like other Ray films that I love, this one doesn’t smack you in the face w/ its greatness. It is more subtle and precise. It’s the kind of film that while watching, you say to yourself, “geez, this is pretty damn good.” Yesterday I took the booklet w/ me on the train ride to the office and really enjoyed the first essay that is contained within. I highly recommend both the film and that first essay which shares some insight on what Ray thought of the film and its themes, Pather Panchali’s initial reception, and how Ray broke convention by NOT featuring song and dance in the typical Indian fashion.

I’ve seen all of the Ray films that Criterion have released except for Enemy of the People. I’d rank them as follows:

Pather Panchali
The Big City
Aparajito
The Music Room
Apu Sansar
The Stranger
The Coward
The Home and the World
Charulata

I haven't seen some of those.

But I would rank Charulata much higher.

I don't know if it's better than The Big City.

...but it's close imo.

I got Kraftwerks the Man Machine years ago and thought it was brilliant. My brother loved it also and used The Robots in his Halloween costume one year dressed as a robot playing that song on loop walking around NYC.

To get into KMFDM I recomend Naive and Angst because those are undisputed classics.

For ASF I got the singles 83-95. That and the 12"singles collection are amazing. The problem is it's so hard to find their collections anymore. Even the 12" singles collection that came out in 2008 is difficult to track down.

the watching environment was probably the worst versus the other 8 that I've seen. it was a weekday, in the evening, and my wife and son were home. don't get me wrong - I still liked it. for now I feel like I liked even the Eclipse titles better.

The Big City was a great watch. I'm wondering if The Music Room is perhaps the better film, though. I remember you saying that a 2nd watch really cemented its reputation with you. same could happen for me. I might feel inclined to place it #2.

I almost always get multiple items when ordering from Amazon.Jp. Initial shipping is like $10, but goes up in smaller increments when additional items are added.

It's also the fastest shipping ever. I once ordered something around 1pm on a Tuesday and it was on my porch when I got home from work on Wednesday.

I finally sat down this afternoon, and mapped out what I want to get at the upcoming Barnes & Noble 50% Off Sale. If I can find copies that haven't been beaten up in the store, I plan to pick up these twelve titles:

Barcelona
A Brighter Summer Day
Clouds of Sils Maria
The Emigrants / The New Land
Essential Jacques Demy
In a Lonely Place
The Manchurian Candidate
The New World
Night and Fog
Paris Belongs to Us
The Player
The Road Trilogy

Alternate titles, if any of those are damaged in the store or out-of-stock (I've never been able to find a copy of the Jacques Demy set that didn't look as though it had been used as a soccer ball), will be:

Carnival of Souls
Dr. Strangelove ...
Here Comes Mr. Jordan
Watership Down

Whaaa???

Assuming you are not in Japan or Hawaii...

You mean the Wednesday as in the day right after Tuesday you ordered? amazon USA order sits right there for at least 2-3 days unless you have prime...

The Music Room is sooooo good in my opinion.

The scene with that female dancer alone is one of the most hypnotic scenes I've ever seen in a movie.

If I were to rank the Ray films I've seen, it would go something like this:

1. Pather Panchali
2. Apur Sansar
3. The Music Room
4. Aparajito
5. Charulata
6. The Big City

And now I feel like a nincompoop for having The Big City so low.

1 and 2 are a virtual tie...and 5 and 6 are a virtual tie.

I love all six films.

Ray is one of the most underappreciated directors of all time imo.

...every bit the master that Kurosawa was.

Regarding "Moonrise Kingdom"...

I hate buying digibooks. Does anyone know if Criterion has released the second reprinting of this in their standard blueray plastic case yet?

There is no dislike button, so I will say this...

Indian films (not talking about commercial/Bollywood films) are highly underappreciated by the western world and Japanese films have so much focus compared to other Asian countries.

Not many in this forum (even this thread, where so many good film lovers post/read) can name 5 Indian film directors (most I assume, will start & end with one name). If same question is asked about Japanese directors, I think we will average 10 names...all this without referring to google/wiki etc.

Japan/France/Italy is the mainstream of art films...
