Don't worry, by the time you actually get your shipment you'll probably have forgotten you ever ordered it. Sometimes a package mysteriously appears on my doorstep and turns out to be something I ordered from DD over a month ago and forgot about.

I had Modern Times on order from Amazon UK but cancelled it because the Criterion release has much more in it. I will be spending a bit more, but it is worth it.

My copy of The Leopard finally came on from B&N, can't wait to watch it. Has anyone bothered to watch the 161 min American Cut?

About 50-50 for me. Worse is when they toss 2 or 3 DVDs or BDs into huge bubble bag, then it's about 80-20 against me (which is current reason for the returns mentioned in the [smallrant]).

I watched it in the DVD set. I think it's worthwhile to watch both versions, but the Italian one is the key one.

In general, I pretty much watch all the video stuff (in disc order), sometimes skip the audio-only stuff, and just about always skip the audio commentaries. Always read the booklets. Not so sure how long I can keep doing that, seems like some of the more recent titles are crammed with extras.

Currently am going through the Berlin Alexanderplatz extras. (Took me a few passes through the epilog to finally digest most/all of it.)

+1

Rotten Tomatoes is a great website but IMDB is the site I trust the most for reviews. Rotten Tomatoes scores are determined by at most 100 or so insider critics. IMDB on the other hand is based off of countless thousands or ordinary movie watchers rating the film. They are pretty reliable for th most part. Well except for Inception being rated #3 all-time...

A+ to that. I think IMDB is the most reliable source for blind buying. If its rated overall 8 i will probably enjoy it or if the majority vote is 8-10

Just for the heck of it I was going through the Criterion list of releases recently looking at their IMDB rating/ranking. There are a ton of movies ranked among the "Top 250" all-time in the Criterion library, many in the top 100 and even top 50. Most Criterion releases are well above 7.0 Avg IMDB rating which is far above average.

Could you not have rented it first? Watched it online? Anything other than a $55 blind-buy?

From reading your previous posts, you seem to be enjoying your new Criterion purchases. So, I have no doubt that you'll enjoy "The Third Man," as well... but $55 worth?

Lol probably not, but i have a disorder, i wanted the Criterion version only because i wanted to add it to my Criterion Collection. In addition im not a fan of renting, all my movies ive seen before or just straight up blind bought it.
