The story was simple and fairly accurate. The dialogue was fine. All in all, nothing super special, but no where near the slamming it took from critics.

I wont score the PQ, instead I will describe it. It was ridiculously clear. Detail was abundant. That said, I DID NOT like it. It looked like a soap opera on video tape. It was too perfectly clear and looked fake a lot of the time. I detected ZERO DNR, yet no grain. Didnt look natural. Grain haters will love it. Colors and lighting were good.

Film 3.25/5
Audio 4/5
That's because it they used digital. And apparently didn't throw in any artificial grain in post.

Did you also find that the visual look/style of the film seemed kind of....out of place...for the era in which they are telling a story?

Side note...your post made me remember the thread from last summer

Heh, I noticed that just watching the DVD. It was weird.

Five stars for everything.

Boy, has the animaton quality improved over the years. The humans in TS1 were kinda scary looking.
They looked better than I remember (on BD, now I can see their skin texture! ). I always thought the baby from the Pixar short "Tin Toy" was freaky though.

Completely. That was the point I was trying to make. Crystal clear pristine...during the dustbowl and worst years of the depression.

Plus, not a single Escalade or Mack 10.

Sometimes I didn't really mind the visual style, but other times the look of the film was just too jarring considering where and when we supposedly are.

At least he finally worked through his "I'm a Pirate!" stage

The Lost World: Jurassic Park

I had never seen it...and I never will again

2.5/5

And 1.5 of that score is because
[Show spoiler]two T-Rexes had a combo kill and those little dinosaurs had a group kill

that was one of Spielberg's huge "misses"-- while I really enjoyed the sequence in San Diego towards the end, the rest of the movie was really weak.
Not sure which scene was worse-- the scene where Goldblums daughter kicks the velociraptor out of the barn or where our heroes are dangling in an RV over a cliff and making wisecracks about ordering burgers and fries!! 2 examples of many jaw-dropping "bad scenes" in a pretty bad movie!

They were both pretty terrible.

But I give the edge to the RV scene simply because
[Show spoiler]THE ENTIRE THING FELL AROUND THEM AND THEY WERE STILL HANGING THERE WITHOUT BEING TOUCHED
. I mean...seriously...what the hell was that?

I would put 3 last as I would order it 2, 1, then 3. I do need to get them all on blu and rewatch although I dont think my order would change. I hated that they added Ashanti for the 3rd one and was hella happy when
[Show spoiler] she died

Watched "Circle of Iron" (aka "The Silent Flute") via Netflix.

Entertainment: 3/5. Kinda lost interest after a while, but it looked like it has its moments. Some nifty fight scenes. Pacing is okay.

Story: 3/5. Seems like a standard journey with standard characters. I think there might be some underlying philosophy behind some of the characters, but it seems a bit vague somehow.

Film: 3.5/5. It's not too terrible; the acting is a little cheesy, but I think the writing is good (Bruce Lee, ftw!). Photography and imagery is decent most of the time. Sets and props look good; costumes are a little cheap.

Intellect/emotional: 1/5. I think it tries to be philosophical in some way. The last scene tells an interesting theme (although, it may be a little too much exposition for its own good).

Total: 3/5. Would go good with "Beastmaster" or the "Conan" sequels. "Circle of Iron" has its moments, but I feel it's a little too weak and cheesy regardless.

Every time I see David Carradine with a flute, I think of "Kill Bill." Tarantino must have done that on purpose!

Me, too haha. Part 2 is my favorite as well, but Part 3 has better direction and I love that Mad Max sytle. But Apocalypse is the most enjoyable for me.

Just watched:

Mother's Day 3.5/5

Mortal Kombat 3.5/5

Just finished oceans 12 4.5/5 all day. Strong cast in the whole trilogy i dont see why they are rated so low, PQ is pretty bad but the movie itself is awesome.

I wasn't a big fan of Ocean's 12. I liked it but it wasn't nearly as good as 11 and 13 imo.

Pride and Prejudice (DVD)

Film: 3.5/5

-very good film, but I'm a huge fan of the BBC series, so unavoidably made comparisons:
-the guy playing Darcy (Macfayden) can't hold a candle to Firth in the BBC series, who embodies the character. hence the Lizzy/Darcy chemistry suffered (on the relative scale)
-with only 2 hours, the film just couldn't set up the Lizzy/Darcy chemistry in the same way the BBC series did in 5 1/2 hours. for example, there was almost no scenes with Wickham, a key character, and essential for the Lizzy/Darcy chemistry, while the BBC series had about an hour of scenes with Wickham.

I just finished watching The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe on Blu-Ray, and it was great. It's only the third film I've bought on the format, and I don't have an HDTV (yet), but it's still a wonderfully moving experience. I think my favorite moments are the first scene with Lucy & Tumnus, the kids' meeting with Father Christmas, Aslan's resurrection, the "final battle" against Jadis, the coronation at Cair Paravel, and the grown Pevensie kids re-entering the "real world" at the end.
