I went to wipe the discs and my trusty microfibre cloth literally stuck to the surface, they are absolutely smothered in this oily residue. I thought the revival series would be the worst after what was said above, with its very glossy disc sleeves, but checked the first set too and they're just as bad if not worse. Ended up washing each and every disc with soap and water, dried them and gave them a rub down with said microfibre cloth again and now they're pristine, aside from whatever damage they already sustained from being packaged in such a stupid way. Have moved all the discs into white sleeves and put them inside the sets.

I just finished watching the Fire Walk With Me Blue Rose Extended Cut. I always thought the film was great, but this version certainly fleshed out a few things. Is there anywhere online that tells you what the extra scenes are in this version?

This is the very first edition with the cardboard sleeves underneath one another. Looks good, but not very practical. The glue used was always a problem, though.

That set I bought to upgrade from my US Definitive Gold Box Edition DVD set and recognising I'd not likely return to the latter discs, I swapped out the Blu rays with the dvds. The packaging is a nice keepsake to have and I boxed it away but I guess I should check to see if it has messed up those dvds. The plastic tray dvd box with the blus is my go-to for the series now, though.

Interesting regarding the glue business, as I have had the Australian release of this set for over 10 years now and this issue with gunk on the discs seems not to have occurred. I'm not sure whether it's because I don't push the discs down into the sleeve (they seem to fit snugly at the halfway point) or whether the packaging was made somewhere else or different adhesive was used or what. When I first heard of the packaging issues a while back, I immediately went and checked my set, but all was okay. I'm currently enjoying the series again and there's still no problems with the sleeves. I hope it stays that way! But it is certainly tedious packaging regardless of how nifty it looks.

Wasn't glue on the discs a common occurrence with the MGM DVD digipacks back in the day.

Remember films like Terminator, Silence of the Lambs and Usual Suspects all being affected. You needed to wipe the gunk off the discs to get them to play.

Mine's completely separated inside now. Even worse was the packaging for the third season. I'm tempted to get the From Z to A set, but can't help but feel that a full 4K set is incoming at some point.

Yep there was a slimy substance on the discs, even worse though they removed the original intro text and had an ugly player generated version of it instead, plus that then new 5.1 remix on The Terminator.

The entire mystery and The Return were re relessed in standard packaging. I binned my original sets.

I have the Italian edition (although I think the European discs are all the same) and just checked. One of the discs was a bit stuck and has some residue but the others are fine. Most of them I only pushed in about halfway. I have the sneaking suspicion I noticed the problem when I watched it first and decided to play it safe.

There's actually a half circle indentation above the sleeve opening that is not easily noticeable at first and this is, I guess, where the disc should be sitting from. The disc doesn't sit tight, but it doesn't come out. I found that if you push it down past the top indentation and further into the sleeve (I did this very slightly and carefully as an experiment) it feels too tight. I think that is when the edges push too hard into the sleeve, and thus, the glue. But regardless, the packaging is very far from user-friendly, and one really shouldn't have to be handling it with kid gloves so much.
