This.

I haven't seen Die Hard in at least 20 years. I just screened Tulip Fever (2017) Blu-ray, for example, which approaches reference quality for Arri Alexa shot 1080P. Poor film, but amazing to see on a big screen in a light treated room. No rationale for expecting Die Hard to deliver the same eye candy.

No doubt there are some things revolving around the ending that I'd like to change, but this shitty review is mainly the crying of a goof. Crying about violence in an action movie. Crying about the lack of female as bad guys or cops... Crying about an election 30 years ago. Crying about a so called "white Christ figure". The usual type of identity politics stuff I'd expect from a "movie critic" with certain political leanings.

Man, really vibing the dude-love between John and Al on this re-watch. Almost just cried listening to Al tell his story of what got him stuck behind the desk to John. Best. Movie. Ever.

Just finished watching. A nice improvement over the BD which just looks worse now in comparison to the UHD BD. HDR felt very nice and tasteful. The highlights and brighter areas are so very blown out on the BD while naturally rendered on the UHD. Some scenes are just shocking by comparison. Given Die Hard is a darker movie (although I never found this disc looking too dark - but it will be easy to look too dark depending on one's display/projector tone mapping), everything looks more balanced compared to the brighter, yet blown out BD which had more of a "DVD look" in this regard. Colors are now more natural looking from skin tones, to lighting, to shadows. Film grain looks better rendered and detail seems a bit better but is very subtle - however - considering this is a 4K scan of the ON (according to Digital Bits anyway) I'm surprised the detail is not even better, but I have to assume this is practically everything that can be captured with the source. As others have said, if Predator can get this treatment I will be happy. Fox did a nice job.

I came home to watch it again haha. I love it.

Trying to describe everything I appreciate about the balance of shadow and light would just be a tl;dr mess of a run-on sentence. The explosions are just too awesome.

After this I'm yearning to see Alien and Aliens in UHD; they're similarly contrasty and with the same treatment would be perfect. Hell, the entire anthology.

More Fox UHD catalogue titles, please!

I used my Galaxy phone just to do a quick snapshot, so these are not perfect. These are not identical frames, but close enough to show how the BD cannot resolve the oncoming police vehicle making it look like something out of Close Encounters where as the vehicle is rather evident on the UHD BD. Note the pavement as well. lol

Well, I just screwed up. I just bought the UHD code, I entered it into VUDU and they only gave me the HD version. I bought it to see if I thought the 4k release would be worth the upgrade and if I did I would have sold the UHD code that came with the 4k disc that I would have bought. Now, I wasted 6 bucks on buying the code, and now I still got to buy the disc. lol

I think it's complete BS to put it nicely that Fox isn't redeeming this in 4K. Every 4K movie/UHD BD code should have a 4K redemption. People should be berating them on Fox social media.

So this is a widespread problem?
