Hi,

Has anyone heard anything about a new sony firmware release for the PS3? Its been awhile...

Nope sorry. I haven't heard any rumors or announcements. I wish the PS Store would provide more movie trailers because I like watching them in 1080p and never get tired of it.

Sony has said they wanted to minimize the number of firmware releases this year. I believe the original target was one firmware update a quarter(three months). I would not expect another update until March at the earliest.

What I've heard is that the next update is 2.20 that will have IN GAME XMB. I don't know when this update is coming out though.

I think there will be one soon only because of GDC being right around the corner and that would be a great time for a nice update to our machines!

i think they need to just come out with home and the final BD profile all in one update. btw does anyone know if and when they put the xmb "in game" if that means you could see when friends are on and offline and what they are playing and if you can join in on the online game they are in, or if you can chat in game and on the main xmb..........or will it be a dumbed down xmb..........basically i wanna know if youll be able to do what you do on xbox live (chat seemlessly in/out of game, invite/join friends in/out game and see what friends are on/off line and what they are doing), if you can do all that on "home" then it will def. beat out xbl.

no one can answer your question but i guess you will find out when it comes out and i wouldn't expect all those features from the beginning

im jsut curious if anyone knows for sure if the new system upgrade will have this included ive heard rumors but no one i have seen can be sure. and what else is supposed to be included? tahnks sorry if this was already asked

Without reading through a lot of pages, did the last update allow the PS3 to play AVI's and DIVX? Will it also play X-VID codecs if it plays the other two?

It does suppport DIVX, not sure about the other two.

Seriously, a large number of requested features exist today on the PSP. I'm pretty sure what the PSP can do with 32mb RAM (64 for slim), the PS3 can do without even turning ON.

well its been a while so any idea when the next update is? if so any idea what will be in it? personally i want in game XMB profile 2.0 and since sony is scrapping b/c they should sell ps2 games on the PS store

no idea when its coming but im waiting ... i want dts hdma codecs in it an IR remote setup couldnt hurt either.... and id like to be able to send pics from my phone via bluetooth to the ps3 i cant seem to get it to do it..

I'd like a PC anywhere interface via wireless. So that I could access my desktop on the PS3 and via remote play.

I don't see why extras on BD can't be upscaled to 1080p like DVD's.

I'd like a visualizer aquarium with dancing fish.

PVR naturally (Im in UK :P)

In game XMB.

I'd like to see

I would want-

1. A clock. Not really usefull since I have a clock right below my TV, but still...

2. Flash Player, Adobe Player, Quicktime Player, etc.

3. Browser support of #2.

4. MPEG, WMA, MP4 support.

5. DVR plug in support.

6. Home

7. Ability to take screenshots ingame. Extremely doubtful, but I can only wish.

8. All Audio support. I don't really care for this since I don't have surround sound yet.

I have't paid much attention to the PS3, but has there been any talk or speculation about being able to bitstream all of the new codecs, DD+/TrueHD/DTS HD MA in the next update? I just picked up an Onkyo receiver, and will be looking into a player that will bitstream everything. I already have the Sharp player, but there are a few titles coming out with DTS HD MA on them that I'd like to hear.
