I bet a lot of you that whine about the extended version are also the ones that whine about not getting Star Wars in it's Original theatrical version with Han's shooting First!!
Let's face it, it's not YOUR decision on how it's released, it's your decision to buy it or not, that's all. Stop complaining. So many of you take everything for granted that things have to be done to satisfy YOU. Be happy you are getting something.
Oh so you are actually going to go into the whole Lucas thing now? Thats one can of worms I wouldn't open up here on the forums. No we are not getting the Theatrical Editions...some of us are not SHEEP.

I fail to see the logic behind your comments? We have all seen the TE of LORT and I am sure we will see the TE of Hobbit as well. We just prefer to have our BD copy in EE, why is that so hard to understand? You will be able to buy your own copy of the TE and the rest of us will be waiting for the EE. To hear some of the TE fans, you would think you all work for New Line Cinema and are losing money since too many people want only the EE.

Studios probably demand 2.40:1 aspect ratios these days to try and get people into theaters, considering when people wait for the bluray or dvd it doesn't completely fill their screen and it may not be as enjoyable. If 21:9 TVs were the norm, I'm sure we'd see 25:9 movies in the theaters.

What's being missed here, is just like last time (on DVD), Peter Jackson and Warner Brothers are being quite upfront that the extended editions are coming and when. Complaining that the 2009 release won't be the extended edition is kind of silly. Either you would like to own the TE on blu-ray or not. Move along, there is nothing more to see here.

They are everywhere. The more newbies that get into HDTV and BD, the more misinformed black-bar-haters we'll have around here. They really need to add a forum rule stating that if you want to whine and complain about black bars, you may only do so in a specific sticky thread. Violations will be dealt with on a progressive discipline basis (warning, 3-day suspension, 7-day suspension, 30-day ban, etc...). That way, we can keep these individuals in one thread where they can all complain to each other and the rest of us don't have to read it.

Nope. I'm perfectly happy watching upscaled EE's once or twice a year until they are released on BD. I (and many others around here) watch movies for the story, not to simply stare at a pretty picture.

That's a pretty ridiculous argument. Of course we will all see the Hobbit when it is released. At that time, it will be the only version available, and no one will know any different. I do agree, however, that it is my decision to buy or not, and I've elected NOT to buy until the EE's are released. I don't have a problem doing that. Do you?

i really don't understand the outrage that some people would want to wait until the EE comes out

and the counter that some people are going to be "sheep" for buying the theatricals

we all have our personal taste in these movies
some of us want the theatricals (myself included)
and some only want the extended ones (which i'll consider picking up in a few years)
some of us dont even want them at all

is it really so hard to understand people liking a different version of a film??

I did not complain, what is being miss here is that there is 2 type of people wanting the EE, those that are complaining and those that are not like me. But the comments from the TE fans are a little annoying, it's like only their opinion matters. I have not complaint, I am willing to wait for the EE, it's my choice but I am tired of hearing comments like "oh you won't be seeing the TE of Hobbit" or "waiting 3 years for a BD release how stupid is that" or "stupid not wanting to double dip" or "the TE are the only true version of the movies:. It's forum talking about LOTR and everyone is allowed to express their opinion. If if you are allowed to make comments about how tired you are of hearing about the EE, I guess the rest of us are allowed to make comments on how we prefer the EE.

I agree. Either side of that argument is a losing argument. People should be happy to buy whichever version they want or none at all. Nobody should think anyone is a fool to wait for the EE, nor should anyone think someone is a fool for buying the TEs.
I'm a fool and will be buying both. I love LOTR and can't wait to have a version in high def.

I guess I get the impression that there is still a lot of complaining on here that the TEs are being released in advance of extended editions at all. This argument can't move anything forward. The TEs are coming when they are coming and the EEs are coming when they are coming.

Language aside, P@T, I think our positions are closer than they are apart.

Nope. I'm not. I'm going to wait until it's released on Blu-Ray just as I do EVERY movie I see. The theater is crap compared to my home theater. Why would I want to ruin my first viewing by going to see it at a local crap theater?

+1 That argument was completely ridiculous

The Hobbit TE will be the only version we have seen at the time so we wont know any dif.....with LOTR, we have been watching the EEs for YEARS now and going to the TEs at this point is quite simply a step back. What is so hard to understand about that???? Not the same thing which is why that argument is ridiculous.

Oh please don't start on the language I know I am horrible in English, I wish I could debate you guys in French but I would be the only one talking so it would be boring I always joke that Shakespeare make's a 180 in his tomb everytime I put a phrase down in English

As for double dipping, it's up to the person to do so or not. I prefer not to that anymore, I just did too much of it in the past and just tired of it but I sure could understand those who will. Who can blame them these movies rock

Your English is better than many native English speakers. I can barely ask for a black coffee in French.

In a debate, I would have to rely on Babelfish and you would be the one laughing. Of course, there are those that could debate in Elvish

The expression is "spins in his grave", not "makes a 180 in his tomb"!

Ah-hahaha, I am totally kidding P@t, I did get a laugh out of that but your English is really darn good, I think! Better than many who call English their native language!

Thanks for the correction we say both in French "un 180 dans sa tombe" but it's true people will say more "tourne dans sa tombe"

I just returned from 2 targets, 2 big wallmarts and 3 best buys here in ALtamonte Springs and Orlando locations and nobody has the trilogy box!!!Target and wallmart has them individually for $24.00 and never received the box! The 3 best buys i went did not had the box as well, i called a friend of mine that works in Best Buy in downtown Orlando and he told me i would not gonna find the box anywhere since they pulled from all stores because of the papa johns $10.00 coupon! In how many languages can you say "dishonest" >?!! Because of that stupid coupon i cannot find the box anywhere and amazon.com does not recognize that coupon! I'm never gonna buy BR from local stores ever again, i just spent money on gas and $15.00 on a lousy pizza that tasted more like rubber. At least amazon has free shipping and NO TAX!!!

I had no idea that English wasn't your first language. I was simply making reference to the fact that though we are saying things differently, we seem to be saying about the same thing. You could probably teach a lot of people native to the USA a thing or two about English as a first language.
