Losing weight is really only about one thing. It's about reducing your calories. You can do this by eating less. You can do this by exercising in some way so that your body is using more calories. Or you can do this by reducing your calories AND exercising. If you do one of these options, you'll lose weight. The problem comes when you have lost the weight that you wanted to lose and return to your old patterns. The weight you lost will come back...and likely a little bit more.
To lose weight, you have to commit to a lifestyle change because the results that you get from a diet won't last. Make a decision to make some changes and stick to them. That's the only way that you'll lose weight and keep it off for good. |

I have 2 main rules: less sugar and no alcohol.
Personally I am following 9 day cleanse program and with combination of home procedures on cellulite reduction machines I managed to lose eight pounds in 7 days. The first four days were a bit tough but after that I was fine. I will keep going. Last edited by MorrisJay; 01-19-2018 at 10:16 AM. |

If you want to be slim and fit into nice clothes then just eating sensibly within your recommended calories followed by exercise 3 tines a week will suffice. Want to see your Abs ? That's when you have to watch what you eat and fine tune the nutrients going in.

The low carb diet works for me. I eat around 100 grams of carbs a day, so lowish is probably a better description. Let's just say I moderate my carb intake. We are all different and the trick is to find the diet that works best for you. Which obviously is not only a diet that works, but one that you can stick to long term.
BTW, I am also a serious runner and for races I will load up on carbs the day before and drink Gatorade during the race. Low carb diets are misunderstood by most people, but the principle is that carbs can spike you blood sugar, triggering your desire to eat more. Moderating you carbs (Ideally at the highest acceptable level) will control your hunger impulses. It's easy to give advice about dieting and just say "eat less", but if I am hungry I don't have that willpower, especially at night. But by moderating my carb intake my body only craves food when it actually needs it, not because I ate too many carbs and my blood sugar spiked. It's a beautiful thing when you can eat as much as you want and not gain weight. I never thought it would be possible a few years ago. But bottom line low carb is not for everyone, but neither are other diets either. But there is a diet that will work for you, you just gotta find it. |

Here's a huge study that was just completed that shows that carbs, not fat, are what really cause obesity and premature death from heart disease. It recommends the ratio of 50-55% carbs, 30-35% fat and 15% protein. Not really low carb, just moderating carb intake. That's where the misunderstanding about low carb diets lies: people assume it means a ketogenic diet (50 grams a day or less). That I agree is not sustainable, but a diet with a more moderate carb intake certainly is.

It's an observational study so there's no definitive cause and effect result from that study, however I would be inclined to agree with the general opinion of the study if only because when my nutrition is on point ( which it isn't at the minute....life 'issues') I personally aim for around 35% carbs, 25% fat and 40% protein which helps me feel satiated, healthy and fuelled for training.
However, I still firmly believe that weight loss is achieved through calorie control, NOT macro control. Over eat any type of food, no matter how healthy it is and you will gain weight. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Of course losing weight comes by eating fewer calories, but where you get those calories makes a huge difference regarding hunger control. Carbs make you hungrier than fats. Since most diets fail because people can't control their hunger impulse from a reduced calorie diet, it makes sense to reduce carbs as a way to combat that. |

Calorie control will always be a battle of wills, I went from 18+ stone down to 12+ stone in 2 years by simple 'counting calories'. There was absolutely no macro control at all. Maybe I find it easier because I don't eat (and never have) very many carbs from veg and I simply moved from a fat rich diet to a protein heavy diet. From my experience when your going from double/triple portion sizes (the primary reason for weight gain) to proper single serving portion sizes no amount of fat and protein intake will cover the huge downturn in your calorie intake, which for a lot of people will be 1000+ calories a day. My advice, for what it's worth is concentrate on the calories by weighing what you eat and log your intake to keep you honest. As the weight comes off then you can start looking at your macro intake (carbs, fat, protein).

But I agree in many of the younger people or in those that don't have any signs of pre-diabetes or diabetes, that reducing carbs will be less effective. However I think a huge number of people will benefit because they are pre-diabetic (and probably don't know it yet) or diabetic. Very likely a macro diet will help them. |
