Just watched Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. Funny over the top stuff. If you liked the 1st one you won't be disappointed. If you didn't like the 1st one then stay away...again.

Yeah, I found my old DVD. Thought I'd lost it, but apperently not. Overall it was very enjoyable, but only because I love those rape & revenge exploitation flicks. Can't wait to see the remake as well.

I hope for a BD release, too. The DVD looks horrible, but that actually adds to the movie lol.

Just finished FOTR and the reviewer is a little harsh on the PQ, yes its a little grainy at times, but this film looks way better than Gladiator, they're some very clean scenes that are blu ray worthy, but not demo worthy. The movie itself is 5.0 all day, but i think people are just mad that these aren't the EE's so they just bash the ratings, This is still a MUST OWN EE's or Not. I'll give it 4 out of 5

I'm glad to hear about the PQ. It seemed weird that the first movie would be rated so low and the rest rated decently. I'm sure when I get my copy, I'll love it all the same.

Shutter Island 7/10

Here is how I would explain this review...

When a music artist comes out with songs left off of there latest album and then come out with a b-sides album (the leftovers), this is how I would categorize Scorsese's latest. Seems to be like a movie that was made, but wasn't good enough for the directors catalog, but was released to garner some money (which it easily has). It's not a bad movie by any means, but it's a been there, done that movie. I was a little upset by the use of the same music that was in "The Shining." Scorsese has some kind of addiction in using the same music/songs over and over in movies of his. I don't know how many times I have heard "Gimme Shelter" in some of the movies he has made. I do hope Scorsese get back in the groove of making the good movies that he used to make. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

The been there done that type movie was not referring to Scorsese, I was meaning that we have seen so many types of these movies before.

Clash of the Titans (the new one)

Basically, Jake Sully (who is a man), Le Chefre (
[Show spoiler]I presume James Bond didn't really kill him like he said
), James Bond's one night stand from Quantum of Solace (
[Show spoiler]Apparently she isn't really dead either!
) and some other companions go walking across a good distance (obvious rip-off of LotR, which has a patent on walking long distances in movies) to find a way to stop Lord Voldemort and his giant beastie he borrowed from Davy Jones and prove to Qui-Gon Jinn that men do no need the gods to do things (because, he's a man remember).

It wasn't great, but it was pretty good and enjoyable.

4/5

Oh and did I mention that Jake Sully is a man?
[Show spoiler]You'll get why I said it so many times once you see the movie.

Kick-Ass is the movie we have all been waiting for! I just saw an advanced screening of this tonight, this is one of my favorite movies of all time. So freaking awesome. Don't flame me for this, but I liked this better than "The Dark Knight!"
My favorite comic movie of all time. All comic book movies, need to be as good as this! They made changes to the second half of the comic book, but I actually liked all the changes better! Except they left out the made up curse word "tunk" and left out the crazy Armenian guy walking into the building at the end like the comic book (It would have been a funny reference to the beginning like the comic book did).

This feels like if Tarantino made a comic movie, this would be it.
Especially for this scene:

It felt like it was straight out of a Tarantino film.

After seeing this film I got to say Lyndsy Fonseca is the hottest female out there in the movie business today! (She almost appeared nude, but she covered her breasts lol ) She is just smoking hot!!!! Kick-Ass is just so LUCKY, I wished I was him!!!!

And of course... HIT GIRL STOLE THE FILM!!!!
And oh my god, I loved the changes they made to the Big Daddy character. He is a mixture of Adam West and William Shatner. He was funny and badass. The actors who played Kick-Ass and Red Mist (McLovin) were also very great in their roles.

This is ultra-violent, very entertaining, perfectly paced, vulgar, funny, audacious, and a bunch of sexual content and references, and I absolutely loved it!
5 STARS! My favorite movie in years, and one of my favorite of all time.

Oh by the way, this was easily one of my favorite movie experiences. They gave away Posters, small posters, trivia, medium sized carded holographic pictures of the poster, T-Shirts, Hats. It was completely sold-out, everybody laughed and cheered at all the right scenes (So much you couldn't even hear what they said afterward ) It was just so much fun! I brought the Kick-Ass Hardcover while waiting in line and wore my Kick-Ass movie T-Shirt I brought from Hot Topic. I don't think one person in the audience didn't love it.

The Stoning of Soraya M. (netflix instant)

Film: 4 stars (out of 4)

This is the second best film I saw from last year, behind the Cove. (1. The Cove; 2. The Stoning...; 3. The Hurt Locker; 4. Sin Nombre; 5. Avatar). Keep in mind that I have many more to see, and that my "list" is only effective in showing how I've ordered the films I've seen thus far.

The stoning scene in this movie immediately ranks itself as the single most disturbing scene I've ever seen on film. It's sick to think that this act of "punishment" is still used in various countries around the world. (Roger Ebert: "The stoning sequence itself is one of the most unbearable experiences I've had at the movies...it lasts nearly 20 minutes").

This film angered me on many levels. I won't get into my disgust regarding the culture and religion aspects, because I'll be thrown off this site for doing so (not to mention they're pretty damn apparent).

What I will say is that I'm embarassed yet again with the Academy ignoring a foreign performance that is easily one of the year's best (Thomas's performance in I've Loved You So Long two years ago being the most notable, considering it's arguably the best lead female performance ever). Shohreh Aghdashloo, who was Oscar nominated for her role in House of Sand and Fog, deserved a nomination without a doubt. She won the Satellite Award for best actress, and if Sandra Bullock's performance is even half as good, I'll be absolutely SHOCKED. (note: I have nothing against Bullock, as I actually think she's a good actress.) It would be unfair for me to proclaim the performance as the absolute best of the year without having seen the others, but I have no idea how it can be topped.

It's sad that this film didn't even make a million dollars, when it should be seen by everyone and when multiple critics and sites had it in their top 10. It's a shame that the PQ was rated as 2.5 for the blu-ray, although there've been multiple times that the reviews have been very off (although I'm willing to bet it's accurate here). I will still be buying the film...but I don't know if I can ever watch it again.

Note: this is a TRUE story, not based on a true story, not fiction. This happened in the mid 80s. Most of the film, including second-hand dialogue, is taken from the single audio cassette.

Watched Jeepers Creepers last night, was a pretty sucky movie to be honest. Didn't scare me at all, I expected so much more of this one.

watched FARGO last night-- haven't seen it for years---

Great movie-- love the characters and performances, simply fascinating to
watch--

5.0 out of 5.0

Blu-ray-- 4.5 out og 5.0-- a bit on the grainy side but I switched my Bravia
mode to custom (which is calibrated based on settings I got on this site) and the picture looked excellent-- this isn't a film that's going to "pop" on the screen like a newer release...

Actually, it is a second hand story. It was told to French-Iranian journalist and war correspondent Freidoune Sahebjam by Sorayas aunt, so details could be sketchy. I dont dispute that the basic facts are there though. And its not like any "official" record would be accurate anyway. I am not saying the film isnt important or excellent, not at all.

I agree with your anger, so I'll stop, because if I climbed onto my soapbox about those issues/practices/cultural acceptance/beliefs I would surely be banned as well. It's 2010 for crying out loud.

Agreed

And that's what I meant about true story--I should've specified that it was told via the aunt. That being said, it's not really second-hand since she was present for the vast majority of the story, rather than relying on hearsay.

All in all, an excellent film and an important issue. Side note: the book is virtually impossible to find. It's not available at Barnes and Noble online or in the stores, or on Amazon. Too bad.
