I don't like the "extended cut" terminology.

In reality, there was the "Theatrical Cut" displayed a handful of times before Kubrik got out his scissors and cut out a scene after the movie was released.

There is the slightly edited version (US version). Being somewhat shorter than the original theatrical cut, it is very hard to call it "extended".

There is also the cut out even more cut shown in Europe.

I just take offense as a slightly edited version with material being cut from the original theatrical version as being extended in any way. I can understand to some extent why this terminology would be used in the UK instead of the more proper description of "The cut Stanley Kubrik wanted after he didn't like his theatrical cut but before he decided to do more cutting"

I have always described them as the UK and US cuts, simple as that. As the first screened version is not available to us I don't regard it at all.

I do notice though on Reddit especially that people go through all sorts of opinion specific logic to demonstrate that the version they like best is the version that everybody else should be watching.

I've not taken the giant leap or small step to 4k yet
but have ordered the 4k SB for when I do
and hopefully the BD gets a remaster too like 2001 did

Oops the br came out in 07' but yeah been waiting 10+ years for an upgrade. It seems almost every home release has been about 10 years. Anyhow yeah I'll buy the steelbook too, because they're both unappealing to me but one is more of a collecting item and a bit more unique.

I doubt it. 2001 didn't and that soundtrack actually needed Dolby Atmos in order to recreate the sequences utilizing five screen channels. Yes, Atmos can have five screen channels, even the home version.

Sure, you could only hear them with an Altitude or similar processor... but the original mix would have been preserved.

4K resolution was meant for carpets and beards.

I would buy that one DAY ONE!!!!! Any of those types of movies in 4K would be sweet. Then I wouldn't spend half the time fiddling with the settings and would fiddle with MY knob instead.
