What more could a Gamera fan ask for?

Finally got my order from Zia records and though the box looked like it had been put through pure Hell the amount of reinforcement and protection inside was superb! Not a scratch or blemish on the set.

Now that I finally have a complete set I can return what I got from amazon.

I've also marathoned through most of the films already having watched Gamera through Gamera vs Guiron and then skipped ahead to watch the heisei trilogy.

After seeing allot of preliminary videos posted by Arrow I was initially concerned about the darker images and night time scenes when compared to the seemingly brighter mill creek versions. But now that I've watched them I can gladly say those fears were unfounded, the color correction is also a huge plus. After comparing the discs from Arrow to Mill creek I can see what other posters were saying about the mill creek versions seeming to have a yellowish tint to them. In regards to the Arrow set the films look great IMO.

On a side note though I have noticed some video issues with the original Japanese version of Gamera. A sort of snow or excessive grain in some shots. But when I watch the American version of the film included in the bonus features it doesn't have these image issues at all.

Loved the books too may I add. It was great to finally be able to read Matt Frank's The Last Hope as well as reacquire the Dark Horse comics again. The retrospective Gamera history book was also an excellent addition with interesting info and wonderful illustrations.

I know it has already been said by others in this thread but this set truly is amazing.

That Gamera figure looks amazing. Where'd you get it from?

Thank you.

It is the Prime 1 studio vinyl gamera statue that was released last year. I won mine in an auction on ebay. The vinyl version sold out almost instantly when it was new and went for about $500 dollars. You can still get the polystone versions direct from prime 1. A $700 version that comes with an interchangeable light up glowing fist and a deluxe version for $1000 that comes with the fist, two more alternate heads and a deluxe diorama base of Kyoto.

Thanks. I'll update if/when it does. I tried asking them for a tracking number and they did oblige, but tracking right now (especially overseas) is so messed up...

Joyplex, same with Shout Factory. Arrow likely went through them for US distribution rights too.

I was able to order the one from Irving - that's all they had. He said 3 other people called after me when I called back to pay after he packed it. Thanks very much for helping me out! The Hulen store didn't have it and Liberty store was already sold 12 minutes after opening so I assume someone else bought it because of this post. I didn't try Farmington. If anyone else ordered one I'm curious.

Finally saw Guardian of the Universe and Legion.

After seeing those two, specifically the latter. Heisei Gamera could beat the shit out of Godzilla for sure.

Camera work for the big Kaiju scenes are VERY well done. I'd assume they were very careful w/ their pre production. I knew I was going to love the trilogy but I didn't expect I'd be that impressed by the whole of what the films are.

Can't wait to see Iris now.

Mike from Grindhouse Video on his livestream tonight says he is putting up the rest of his Gamera copies sometime tomorrow, has around 40-50 copies left. Sign up for e-mail notifications to know when he actually puts them back up, because they will go quick.

I have the original tin set, but I've only watched those episodes once. I didn't care for them. IIRC, they commit the cardinal sin of cutting out a lot of the monster scenes.

I disagree. While Gamera can be knocked down and injured by conventional military firepower, Godzilla is impervious to that stuff. Even sci-fi weapons like laser cannons. [/nerdrant] Which is no slight on Gamera. He is a true warrior, with the eye of the tiger, in G2. And the destruction he partakes in in G3 is truly awesome.

As a kid, that's what made Godzilla "better", he was indestructible. But now that aspect seems kind of lazy. While Godzilla was the action movie star who ended the fight with barely a blemish, Gamera is John McClain, beaten, brusied, and bleeding while limping his way to victory.

[Show spoiler]You'd never see Godzilla blast off a limb like Gamera in G3.

Just landed my order at Grindhouse Video (after waiting forever for my Amazon UK order to be honored and outright flubbing the chance to order off Deep Discount when I first saw it was back off-hand).

Go act quick, they only have about 40-50 copies. This has been a ****ing journey.
