I think I'll try to get the Masters of Cinema 1 disc edition of Shane next time I order from Amazon UK. With everything else I order, it'll bring the cost down to maybe $16 or so.
interesting thing about the aspect ratio controversy. the 1 disc (and I believe the domestic release, too) offer the film in the 1:37:1 original ratio |

This is kind of off-topic, but there has been rumors of Tarkovsky's Stalker getting a Criterion release in the near future. Is there any truth to that? I've had the dvd for awhile now, but have been holding off for a blu-ray because the transfer on the dvd is supposed to be mediocre.

Apparently the other AE releases have a gamma correction issue, but are supposed to look fine otherwise. Last edited by Knaldskalle; 09-23-2016 at 09:46 PM. Reason: fixed link. |

It's a great set - odd that it doesn't get much mention around here. |

Not a fan of Tarkovsky. You would do better to read Roadside Picnic-the book Stalker came from. Much better than the film. |

I purchased the DVD set of Lewton's horror films many years ago, and had never seen many of these films previously. I had only been familiar with the Body Snatchers and the Leopard Man, and I was immediately captivated with his films. I would love to see Criterion issue these films within this set on blu ray, these movies are perfect for the Criterion treatment.

Could you elaborate regarding the Seventh Victim? In my opinion, it's one of his most impressionistic films...

Cat People is, obviously, the 20-pound kitten in the room. But after that, the ones that generally are thought of as the best are probably The Leopard Man, I Walked with a Zombie, and The Body Snatcher. They also happen to be among my favorites (the latter two I even like more than Cat People). But I'm not playing favorites here. My favorite of the bunch by far is Curse of the Cat People, but that doesn't get as much love, probably because it's a rather gentle fantasy rather than a horror film. I wouldn't expect it to be high up on the list for Blu-ray treatment, either. I was kinda sorta hoping that Criterion would've included it as a extra in the Cat People release, but I certainly wasn't counting on it. |

Ol' Cary is lucky they were acting. Had that been real life, Ingrid would have slapped the #%^# out of him, lol. She wasn't one to be pushed around. It would have looked like that Chappelle Show Rick James skit.

It's as if the planets are lining up right now, conspiring against my bank account. Criterion, Twilight Time and Warner Archive are all holding sales within a two week period.
I thought I was done spending for a while, at least until the Flash sale. But noooo. "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in..." |
