I was in the Beta. There wasn't anything I could recall in 480p. It depends on what masters they have. If they don't have access to HD, then it obviously won't be in HD. Major titles will definitely be in HD, but some of their less desired titles that were originally only on DVD may have the DVD masters.

Also, having bonus features on some Criterion titles is a huge step up!

Wow, same thing with me. I literally have no more space on my Criterion video rack (that is nearly 6 ft. tall by the way). I have a second rack right next to it but that is also almost full (and is non-Criterion blu-rays only... with a few non-Criterion DVDs in there also).

So with the Criterion films expiring from Hulu in about a month, I'm looking for some recommendations for what to watch before they leave. I have about 50 titles in my queue but realistically will probably only be able to watch about 10 of them. Also, if there are any recommendations for items not in my queue, please feel free to let me know!

Ha. Send you some movies across the pond, huh? Maybe.

But these are steel shelves and they cost me a bit of $ because I didn't want typical wooden shelves. I had used IKEA "Besta" shelves before but wanted to go more "industrial" now. You can only add on horizontally, not vertically. Since I have limited space here, I decided to put each rack 90° to one another. A third rack would have to go somewhere else as there is a door next to my Criterion rack.

Neon Demon was a good 'witch' film, depending on how you wanted to look at it! I also loooove the witch themes in Antichrist!, the recent Macbeth had an awesome portrayal of the witches too - I preferred them to Polanski's take on the witches.

But yeah... there are too many goofy witch films lol although back in the day I was a sucker for Buffy the Vampire Killer lol

For Witch films it would be nice to see Criterion release Dreyers Day of Wraith

On current region A Bluray Burn, Witch, Burn is a pretty neat film. And of course already mentioned Haxan. Wish it would come to Bluray. The witch in Throne of Blood always creeps me out.

I see you've got Altman's The Player on the 'unwatched' bottom shelf. Rectify that as soon as you can You're in for a real treat - fantastic release.

Like Murnau's Nosferatu, I get the feeling that the filmmakers of Häxan really believed in the supernatural while they were creating the movie, because there's an uncanny sort of reverent awe throughout.

Agreed, it was truly a singular cinematic experience.

The Witch for me was a huge let down....

While it’s not entirely fair to compare the two, I mostly agree that Haxan was undoubtedly more visceral of the two and I rate it significantly higher.
Like the sequence where they give us a tour of the punishment chamber that was used to torture confessions out of suspected witches made my skin crawl to no end.
The Witch didn’t evoke any strong or comparable emotions in me.

I've seen this film...back in 2000 or 2001 in one of my film classes at college. I def. need to revisit this film again soon though! That opening tracking shot is epic.

I agree 100% with this. I'm definatly NOT an Altman fan and I really really liked The Player and am considering buying it in either the next Flash Sale or the B&N.
