That's what I'm saying. For $11/month those films better be in HD. I can watch SD or better on youtube.

I was in the Beta. There wasn't anything I could recall in 480p. It depends on what masters they have. If they don't have access to HD, then it obviously won't be in HD. Major titles will definitely be in HD, but some of their less desired titles that were originally only on DVD may have the DVD masters.

Also, having bonus features on some Criterion titles is a huge step up!

Wow, same thing with me. I literally have no more space on my Criterion video rack (that is nearly 6 ft. tall by the way). I have a second rack right next to it but that is also almost full (and is non-Criterion blu-rays only... with a few non-Criterion DVDs in there also).

Here's a pic I just took!

Criterion rack on the right...and 99% full as you can see. Not completely in alphabetical order as my unwatched Criterions are on the very bottom shelf.

So with the Criterion films expiring from Hulu in about a month, I'm looking for some recommendations for what to watch before they leave. I have about 50 titles in my queue but realistically will probably only be able to watch about 10 of them. Also, if there are any recommendations for items not in my queue, please feel free to let me know!

What I've seen:
[Show spoiler]
City Lights
The Great Dictator
Lord of the Flies
M
Rashomon
Scanners
Seven Samurai
The War Room

In my queue:
[Show spoiler]
... And God Created Woman
8 1/2
The 39 Steps
Beauty and the Beast
Belle De Jeur
The Blob
The Brood
Carnival of Souls
The Circus
Diabolique
The Divorce of Lady X
Empire of Passion
Eraserhead
Eyes without a Face
Fiend without a Face
The First Man Into Space
Foreign Correspondent
Frances Ha
The Gold Rush
The Graduate
The Great Beauty
A Hard Day's Night
Haxan
I was a Teenage Zombie
The Idle Class
Jungle Book
The Kid
A King in New York
Kwaidan
The Lady Vanishes
Limelight
The Magician
Modern Times
Monsieur Verdoux
Night on Earth
Onibaba
Pygmalion
Rosemary's Baby
Sabotage
Sanjuro
Shadows
Sisters
Stranger than Paradise
Summer with Monika
Sunnyside
Thing to Come
Vampyr
Vanishing
Walkabout
A Woman of Paris
A Woman Under the Influence
Yojimbo

Probably my most interested in are 8 1/2, Eraserhead, and The Magician.

Ha. Send you some movies across the pond, huh? Maybe.

But these are steel shelves and they cost me a bit of $ because I didn't want typical wooden shelves. I had used IKEA "Besta" shelves before but wanted to go more "industrial" now. You can only add on horizontally, not vertically. Since I have limited space here, I decided to put each rack 90° to one another. A third rack would have to go somewhere else as there is a door next to my Criterion rack.

Criterion could start selling customs homes - instead of walls, we could just have shelves and then there would be no wasted space or people crying.

I am a genius.

But yeah... there are too many goofy witch films lol although back in the day I was a sucker for Buffy the Vampire Killer lol
For Witch films it would be nice to see Criterion release Dreyers Day of Wraith

On current region A Bluray Burn, Witch, Burn is a pretty neat film. And of course already mentioned Haxan. Wish it would come to Bluray. The witch in Throne of Blood always creeps me out.

I see you've got Altman's The Player on the 'unwatched' bottom shelf. Rectify that as soon as you can You're in for a real treat - fantastic release.

Yeah the modern parallels don’t really hold up and come across as a feeble attempt to end things on an introspective or poignant note, but it was well-intentioned nonetheless.
Don’t know if it was only me but the swedish equivalent of ‘The End’ was also mildly amusing. Weirdly, I don’t recall many Bergman movies ending with “SLUT”

Agreed, it was truly a singular cinematic experience.

The Witch for me was a huge let down....
While it’s not entirely fair to compare the two, I mostly agree that Haxan was undoubtedly more visceral of the two and I rate it significantly higher.
Like the sequence where they give us a tour of the punishment chamber that was used to torture confessions out of suspected witches made my skin crawl to no end.
The Witch didn’t evoke any strong or comparable emotions in me.

I've seen this film...back in 2000 or 2001 in one of my film classes at college. I def. need to revisit this film again soon though! That opening tracking shot is epic.

I know, it was just too easy!

All joking aside though, that's an impressive collection you've got. Mine is only about a quarter that size. I hope to be adding some more next month.

I agree 100% with this. I'm definatly NOT an Altman fan and I really really liked The Player and am considering buying it in either the next Flash Sale or the B&N.
