Did anyone else go through the emotional rollercoaster that I did with the FlimStruck email earlier lol

Saw an email from Criterion instantly thought it was the flash sale announcement. Was so pumped up then realized it was an announcement about FS and was instantly super sad only to read said announcement and get moderatly excited again at the $100 a year price, two weeks free and the super close launch date.

Criterion I love you but you're killing me over here!

All joking aside though, that's an impressive collection you've got. Mine is only about a quarter that size. I hope to be adding some more next month.
Thanks...but at this point in my life, trying to be a "completist" is too exhausting. I have no desire to own every single film in the Criterion Collection, but now I even question whether or not even half of the films I own aren't ones I really "need" to own. Really, I don't need to own anything, but as a collector, its a thing I have where I go through collection phases and then when I have enough (or too much), I am exhausted or disenchanted. I guess it kind of is what happens if you're super wealthy and you get bored from all the money you have and just want to experience more of life rather than be weighed down by all the possessions and capital in your life. It's all baggage in the end and you can't take it with you when you die. I want to live lighter these days and having a huge movie collection doesn't help this matter. But sure, I can perhaps rip or digitize all my films and store it all neatly on two external hard drives (like I recently did with my 1,000+ CD collection), but man, having that physical copy with the artwork really adds to the value.

I recall iScottie once owned every single Criterion film but I think he posted a while back that he sold some of his collection off. Owning everything is too costly for me and even owning 200-300 Criterions is a lot of $ spent.

This made me drool. Beautiful shelves and presentation. I've been fighting to keep some shelf space here myself, purging titles I don't care to own in large, frequent batches. Mostly been successful.

But yeah... there are too many goofy witch films lol although back in the day I was a sucker for Buffy the Vampire Killer lol
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is my favorite TV show of all time, by far. Well, the first 5 seasons anyways.

I was mostly joking about The Craft, though it's actually a decent way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Neve Campbell, Robin Tunney, and a hilariously over-the-top (at times, anyways) Faruiza Balk. Of course, I've always had a thing for Neve.

They were both blind buys. Of course, from what I've heard about Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, it might make me go blind. Wait...what? Did I say that? Nevermind.

I didn't see a stand alone thread for Gimme Shelter so I'll talk here. As it happens, I'm stuck in an evacuation zone in Jacksonville, one of the sites of the upcoming Hurricane Matthew. I sent my wife and daughter who's only 1 month old to my Pops' house as I needed to stay home and take care of our animals and if anything happens, be here to make sure the house is taken care of. My wife doesn't like loud movies and such and especially with the newborn, I can't really crank up my system as it might damage her ears. I've had Jumpin' Jack Flash stuck in my head for weeks now so when they left, I popped open a cold beer, stuck in Gimme Shelter and turned it up just short of what would probably damage my speakers. I'm not a huge Stones fan outside of a select few songs but my god is this one encapsulating film. Just brilliant in the way everything is handled. I love the way the Maysles capture everything in cinematic form but still keep the rawness and integrity of the subject matter. It's like you're literally being transported to the 60's and these concerts. You never feel like an outside observer and always get caught up in the environment. It's really a great example of the "it has something for everyone" camp. It's great if you like documentaries, it's great if you're a music enthusiast, or simply one that likes films or pop culture history. One of my favorite blu-rays. It looks incredible and sounds even better.

Anytime that song is mentioned it reminds me of one the best encapsulations of character committed to screen:

And then thinking about that scene gives me cause to remember one of my favourite character introductions, that of Jep in The Great Beauty.

All the best with the hurricane situation - I hope you and your family fare well.

Yeah I definitely need to rewatch Mean Streets. I got the DVD at a closing Big Lots for like 75 cents. Loved it but I only saw it the one time.

And thanks for the wishes

I keep mine in alphabetical order, too, as I want to be able to find movies without having to consult a master spine number list.
