I don't really care Miss St vs Mich St, as they're both the same on the schedule.... they lost to the best teams they played. So who really knows how good either team is.

That's fair. Considering how the Spartans' defense has performed against the 2 good offenses they faced this year... yeah Baylor might actually be a pretty bad matchup.
side note: not being able to say MSU and have it refer clearly to one team is frustrating. Bulldogs, find your own acronym!

If only we had an 8 team playoff... This would be the match ups.

1. Alabama vs. 8. Michigan St.
2. Oregon vs. 7. Mississippi St.
3. FSU vs. 6. TCU
4. Ohio St. vs. 5. Baylor

There would be practically zero controversy as every major conference team with 2 losses or less would be in. But alas... we're stuck with a system every bit as controversial as the top-2.

Wow... and if the final rankings had actually made sense, there could have been 2 rematches in the 1st round!
I'm not being sarcastic and implying that 8 teams would be a bad idea (I agree that would be the best way to avoid all this controversy); that's just the way the rankings (should have) worked out this year.

And here's the final rankings according to the old BCS formula. Under the old system Alabama vs. FSU would have been the title game. If the old system were used to determine the top-4 the match ups would have been exactly the same as what the committee selected. Crazy that even under the old system FSU would have only VERY narrowly made the title game over Oregon.

http://www.sbnation.com/college-foot...off-ap-coaches

1. Alabama .9720
2. FSU .9427
3. Oregon .9393
4. Ohio St. .8607
5. TCU .8550
6. Baylor .8257
7. Mississippi St. .7327
8. Michigan St. .6963

Except that the Harris Poll was used instead of the AP, so it's essentially just an exercise to illicit site hits. Nothing more.

The top 9 in the final regular season Harris poll last season were exactly the top 9 (in correct order) that the AP had. They're pretty much interchangeable polls.

I think this is not representative for a different reason.

I believe there is no way that FSU is #2 in the polls in the old system. If it mattered, they'd be ranked #1.

There's no way FSU would have been #1 under the old BCS formula. Absolutely no chance. They used the Coaches and Harris poll plus computer formulas. The computers lean very heavily on SoS. Even in 2013 a few computers had Auburn ahead of FSU in the final rankings in spite of last year's FSU team being ridiculously dominant in the regular season. Bama would have crushed FSU in this year's computer rankings.

And in the Coaches poll Alabama finished ahead of FSU for the top spot. Harris poll is the only question mark considering they don't poll anymore, but looking at their track record I think it's safe to assume they would have been extremely close to the AP and Coaches polls, leaving FSU at #2 well behind Alabama in the final BCS rankings with Oregon not far behind in 3rd.

When is the last time you saw an undefeated team from a major conference not ranked ahead of a team with a loss? Much less 2. I'll dare to say you have never seen it until this year.

Correct, we haven't. Because this year's FSU team is a unique case. It's a unbeaten team in a weak conference that won most of it's games by single-digits. They finished the season ranked behind FSU in the Coaches poll, which was one of the two polls used in the BCS formula. And as I've said there's no chance Alabama wouldn't have been well ahead of FSU in the computer polls. Even beating almost every opponent in 2013 by 30+ points FSU only barely edged out 1-loss Auburn in the computer polling.

The only question mark is the Harris poll which no longer exists. For FSU to have been ahead of Alabama in the old BCS formula they would have to have FAR ahead of Alabama in the Harris poll, which is absurd to think.

EDIT - Here's the Massey computer rankings. Care to guess where FSU finished? 5th place.

http://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm

Sagarin was another computer ranking used as part of the old BCS formula. FSU's final ranking? 15th place. Like I said, the computers would have killed FSU's chances of being #1 in any BCS ranking and caused Oregon to be a very close 3rd.

You know why I hate the computer polls? They have UGA as high as #3.

Oh I agree. Computer polls were the worst part of the BCS rankings. Some of them make no sense.

The weak conference argument is BS. The weak ACC finished the season 4-0 against the mighty SEC. One of the weakest teams in that weak conference, VT, beat down OSU. The Big 12 is also a superior conference to the Big 10 and they didn't get 1 team in when they really should have had 2 based on last weeks poll. I think your first sentence says it all.

Not even the point of my post. The point is FSU would not have been #1 under the old BCS formula. There have been many analysis by many websites estimating the BCS standings under the old formula and every single one ended up with the same result - FSU far behind Alabama at #2 with Oregon a close 3rd. Many computer formulas don't even have FSU in the top-10. I don't get where you come to the conclusion they'd be #1 when both the Coaches poll and Computer polls say otherwise.

As far as SEC vs. ACC goes it was actually 4-1 ACC. You seem to have forgotten about your own team losing to Georgia this season. How convenient. And outside of that game are you seriously going to brag about the ACC beating the dregs of the SEC like Kentucky and Florida? Nevermind the fact those SEC bottom feeders Kentucky and Florida almost beat todo of the best teams in the ACC and GA Tech took OT just to beat Georgia. Easy to go 4-1 when your top teams are playing the mediocre SEC teams. Pit ACC teams against Alabama, Auburn and Mississippi St. and let me know how well things work out.

GT shouldn't have needed OT to win that game. 2 terrible calls by the SEC crew are the only reason UGA got 2 of their TDs.
