One of the people in a video of themselves opening the boxset said that there was an option to play all the bonus stuff on one of the discs.

All 5 hours of it.

i ordered it on the 6th Jan, my status has been saying "dispatching soon" since Wednesday, looks like Tesco were the ones to order it with as Amazon is likely to be Mon or Tues now

Exactly the same boat, has been saying 'dispatched soon' since Wednesday.

When I peordered I wasnt really bothered about the price as I thought paying extra for delivery would mean it would arrive earlier but to see that some people received theirs on Thursday from other companies its really frustrating especially considering Amazon were quick to take the money from my account on Wednesday.

I even ordered another blu ray last night from Amazon which was dispatched earlier on but Star Wars seems to be lying in a warehouse somewhere with my name on it.

Come on Amazon!!!

Yes, particularly The Phantom Menace which seems to be the most controversial.

Ordered mine from Amazon on 8 January and it's looking like it'll be with me next Tuesday. I'm ok with it, but they're very sneaky saying "Dispatching soon". If it comes damaged I'll be annoyed!

Have only watched A New Hope - it looks just like it should. It looks like a film - grain is present - but not too much, it's sharp but not too much - no signs of EE or DNR. Loads of detail! Thank Lucas it hasn't been scrubbed or boosted!

Very pleased! Exceeded my expectations - I was dreading something sparkly and new to compete with the new trilogy.

Will have to check out the others!

Matt

if you pre-ordered it at 67 and it dropped to 57 at one point, now back to 67 before it ships -> How much do you end up paying?

Three quick questions for those with the UK set:

1. Are the alien language subtitles (specifically Greedo in IV and Jabba in VI) on the 2.35:1 frame itself, or in the black bar underneath? I hope the former is true! (Please note I'm not referring to the closed captions for the hard of hearing, I'm talking about those captions which are part of the actual films).

2. Are those alien captions burned-in or player generated? (Again I hope the former is true)

3. At the very end of the closing credits on IV and VI is there one of those ridiculous "US Forced" caption messages on screen? (also see Date Night and Avatar for this ridiculous FOX trend)

1. on the 2:35 frame itself
2. I believe they are burned-in
3. just had a look. I don't believe so

Well, while to a certain extent this set could never live up to the hype, I feel the set is disappointing for a number of reasons, mostly down to odd decision making when creating the set.

While I agree that ultimately it is the films themselves that matter and it is commendable that unnecessary data-sucking supplements have been removed from the film discs to ensure the best possible presentation, with the constant tweaks and changes I wonder how many people actually appreciate the presentation.

The commentaries on the films are good, but incredibly bitty - due to their nature of being edited together from archive interviews etc. In the past Fox Blu-rays have had excellent BDJ commentary indexes and subjects showing on screen. Doing so on the Star Wars movies would have been ideal. The commentaries are good, and informative. But as they stand impossible to navigate unless in a liner manner.

The trilogy bonus discs are poor - the layout and structure is counter intuitive. While not as bad to navigate as the infamous Lion King Platinum DVD release, it's bad and frustrating. Any DVD or Blu-ray where you need an insert to quickly locate and aid navigation to a feature has failed the UI test in my eyes.

And one of these discs is a BD25? WTF? Couldn't they have ported the major documentaries from the DVD releases onto here? I'm sure a SD re-encode into a more efficient codec would have enabled them to fit.

I find not only the structure but the nature of the trilogy bonus discs somewhat light. Admittedly, that's my own personal opinion, but I'd much rather have longer, structured documentaries than what we are presented with here. The images and clips aren't poor by any means (although I question the inclusion of some of the interviews which are short and somewhat lost without context) and would make ideal branching segments or information to explore later after watching a new HD documentary on each film.

As for the final disc, as soon as the contents were revealed it sparked discussion. While I'm somewhat perplexed by some of the subjects chosen, and the length of the time allocated, it works as a celebration of the series as a whole and as such is perhaps the ideal "bonus" disc. It's just a shame that the somewhat erratic choice of contents here only emphasise the lack of decent retrospective documentaries elsewhere.

I pre-orderd mine before the Scarface came out. That got dispatched on Thursday the 1st but didn't arrive till the 5th Tuesday. Im so annoyed, i'm unsure if I should cancel it and just pick it up from Tesco on Monday. If I bought it from the store will it have the film cell? Or was that online only.

I still haven't had an email saying it has been dispatched yet.

Thanks for that info, nice to read something that isn't "mine's despatched!/when is mine despatching?! [supplier] sucks!!!"
