It's very possible. Parts 2-4 of season 1 are out of print. They've already said that Puella magi and SAO are their best sellers. If I were to guess, we could expect a box set sometime next year. Maybe in anticipation for the new movie?

Keep in mind there is still no Blu-ray Box for S1 in Japan. It probably won't happen until before the movie before promotion purposes. AoA would have to wait a while after that.

HOLY SHIT!!!

I literally bought this during Crunchyroll's Memorial Day sale on May 31st. Mostly because while I dislike AoA, I thought that the Gurren Lagann movies would be the only BD release that I would regret not getting in the case they went OOP. Maybe it was me who bought the last copy!

What are the odds they'll just make them available but as separate films with just the case (a la Sword Art Online: Extra Edition)?
Well Madoka film fans, this happened.

Excellent. I skipped the first two movies because I have the standards of the series and rebellion so I didn't want a LE which would look out of place.

I'm planning on purchasing Madoka sometime this year. Do you recommend getting the movies or just go for the boxset. I heard the films were compilations.

Get the series and the last movie. The last one is a sequel and not a compilation.

Will do. I'm guessing Rebellion is the final movie?

Yes, more of a epilogue than a series ending but extremely enjoyable nonetheless.

More of neither- given it was designed to make way for a sequel that's currently in early production?

It's been stated by Urobuchi countless times that Rebellion isn't the end. They're planning more movies and TV series. Aniplex is going to milk Madoka for all she's worth.

I personally liked the compilation movies better than the TV series.

Very little is left out while other stuff is expended (not much). The animation is redone for better, the voice was re-recorded (I found that some lines were delivered with more impact) and the score re-arranged if I remember correctly (i'm neutral on that one).

Unlike other compilation movies, these ones feel more like a director's cut than a chopped up version.

You can read a review posted on ANN here.

That was years ago. I'll believe it when there is a official announcement.

lol yeah it has, they literally played a "trailer" for it in lieu of one of the concept films (which were essentially teasers) during the Madogatari exhibition. I've seen one of the concept films and it's spec-effin-tacular.
[Show spoiler]

They haven't explicitly said that it will be animated, but that doesn't change the fact that it is still a thing and a sequel of some description going off what I've seen- and it's a pretty safe and far from unreasonable assumption until otherwise stated. Obviously it's some time away given the studio is working hard on Kizumonogatari at the moment.

I guess the movie isn't all the sequel I'm gonna get.

I saw that article too. I'll care when its more than just a concept. Plus "New" project does not mean it is a sequel to Rebellion. Could be. But won't know until there is an official announcement.

I think its great that Aniplex is putting out a standed edition of the first 2 Madoka movies for those that need them (I wish they would do it with more of their series), but as someone who almost always goes for the limited edition of a release I kinda wish they would've put out another batch of the limited editon movies 1 & 2 box set instead. I have the 3 TV series box sets and the movie 3 box set so the movie 1 & 2 box set is the only one I need. If I can't find one on ebay I may just have to settle for this standard editon.

I have a gut feeling that is going to be the plan from Aniplex going forward, now that they're pulling back all their licences to other anime distributors. Since they're already doing standard releases of both PMMM TV and Movies, I wouldn't doubt if we see a standard AoA release of FMA and or Brotherhood in the next year or so, for example... and if the neweer AoA releases turn out to be on par with their JP counterparts, improving on the PQ over the previous domestic releases from Funi or whoever, I'd gladly triple-dip on the Aniplex releases and perhaps even sell off my older domestic releases.
