It's not legal to sell pirated discs full stop. eBay look the other way because they take a nice cut but will always side with the buyer if it comes down to it as they still get their cut.

If you start a return and the pirates demand you pay shipping just escalate the case, cheap bootlegs come on BD-Rs with a darker playing surface than a pressed disc and with the Disney Marvel titles from Black Widow onwards there were no legitimate 3D releases outside of Japan for any of them. Even if the item is as described, it is still a pirated disc, eBay are forbidden by law to sell those. That's the whole point of the law.

I only ever bought a bootleg once (not a 3D film), the picture of the case on the listing blatantly did not look legitimate but I hoped the disc would be legit. It wasn't and the buyer had to pay for me to send it back.

The Japanese releases are legit and are readily available. Save up and support them if you want 3-D films to continue to be released on Blu. Don’t support the bootleggers.

Just to be clear, my advice is not to buy bootlegs at all - I have been very consistent on that.

I personally would be inclined to report every eBay listing I see that is a blatant bootleg but somehow I feel that I would be punished for doing that as there is something very suspicious about how many are freely available, so the next best thing is to know your rights.

On the other hand, if enough money goes to them instead of the producers they might get the message there is still money to be made.

Wrong way of thinking, because bootleggers aren't in contact with the producers so the exchange of results isn't comunicated.

The thing with buying bootlegs is that it tells studios and producers that people aren't willing to buy the format and they conclude that it is best to end support for the physical medium... in this case blu-ray 3D, or 3D entirely.

I agree with @Jiardonio. Your assumption is based on a link between the producers and pirates that doesn't exist.
