Atomic doesn’t for HI or CA. My first time shopping with them was this week as they had a preorder that was sold out elsewhere.

It can likely be deduced that state-specific charging shops are doing that in states where they use warehouse/fulfillment services (as is the case with many online shops).

Sometimes state specific sales tax requirements are determined by how much in sales a store has in a year. So if they sell above a certain threshold in your state the previous year, they have to collect sales tax the current year. It can change year to year

I got my Signal One order yesterday, and despite having a pile of titles already in the queue, I popped in Triple Cross (1966). This blu looks pretty terrible with loads of blocking and pixelation. I even ejected the disk to make sure I didn't accidentally order the DVD. Hoping for better success with the rest of the titles. This one, unfortunately will likely go into the library donation pile.

Yep...just put in an order (NY) and tax collected.

I get that they have to do it, but damn that stinks. Gonna probably hit up OrbitDVD a bit more now.

I received my order from Signal One last week though and that is the one title I skipped that I would have otherwise grabbed. It got pretty bad reviews (which I always check before ordering even if it is a cheap deals) on the transfer quality everywhere I looked. It's also the cut version of the film, unlike the German Blu-ray.

That's not good, I hope their Death Race 2000 disc isn't like that.

There are about 3 different German Blu-ray releases, which apparently all differ in quality.

The first one came out back in 2010 & 2013:



I have no idea of the quality, but it was apparently the full uncut version.

Another Blu-ray came out back in 2016:



which only included the "cut" version, and had a poor transfer. caps-a-holic.com has some screengrabs off it.

A brand new edition came out in 2022 & 2023 that includes a lossless English audio track, is the full uncut version, and I've read comments that it looks far better, or at least the best the film has looked before:



I haven't gotten around to ordering it yet however...

If I was to have got anything in the Signal One sale it would have been Wanted Dead or Alive, as I remember some discussion in the UK & Ireland sub-forum that their Blu-ray release of A Reason to Live, a Reason to Die! isn't the longer version (had been looking forward to getting Signal One's release, until I read it is the cut version).

The Paper Chase is a possible, eventual purchase. But I've been holding out for a Criterion release.

Sorry to break it to you, but Criterion announced a few years ago that they will NOT be releasing THE PAPER CHASE. Apparently the release was planned and Criterion lost the rights at the last minute. No explanation was given, but if you don't get the Signal One, I'm afraid you won't get it at all.

Fantastic info! Thanks very much for the rundown. I’ve got my sights on the most recent German release. I remember liking the movie a lot, but it’s been a long time since I last saw it. I’m glad there is an alternative to the flawed Signal One version. Thanks again, Kat!
