I auditioned PSB when I bought my speakers and I really liked what I heard. The only thing that ruled them out was a problem I had with the dealer, not the speakers themselves.

What models are you looking at?

Ace, in this review, pg 2, middle column, 2nd paragraph, the reviewer describes placing the 100s (v4) 40" from the back wall to get the expected bass. Look like these big bad boys need more room probably. I am going to play around with placement this week and see if I can give my speakers a little more room to breathe.

Very nice. I'm sure there's some folks who can weigh in on those speakers in the PSB thread. Personally I found them to be VERY similar to Paradigm Monitor speakers in terms of sound.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

the PSB Image series is rather nice... there is a T65, you can get it at audio advisor on sales.... they discontinued the T45/55/65, so you can get them at a great deal..... if you want.

You will find that they are linear just like Energy and less dynamic then Paradigm, but have good bass for a linear speaker.... they highs will not be as bright as Paradigm, and not as laidback as Energy.

The T6 got a very good review in stereophile, and even the editor John Atkinson who does the testing and measurments said this is one speaker that needs to be heard if that is the price range your shopping in.

Buy the T6 in full confidence..... Also, see if Ryan4blu still has his PSB setup for sale, he is selling the whole 5.0, I think at a very reasonable price too.

That's a very good review of the v4's. If the PDF doesn't work or takes too long to pull up I have the HTML version link on the first post.

I would like to move mine out a bit more but the kids would start bumping into them. The bass is actually pretty good at double the speaker depth in my room - approx 17"-18". How far do you got'em out now Ryan?

I should have added to the question, don't need anything fancy other than to play a blu ray with PERFECT sound, with 5 paradigm speakers and a polk sub.

I know it's a good price off MSRP but I'm wondering if it's a good price compared to getting dual SVS or others in the same price range. I've never heard the Sub 12's and don't know anyone with experience with them vs the other ID brands.

I think I'm gonna go snoop around the subwoofer forums..
I think in this instance the Paradigms are a better value than SVS, a single Ultra is $1899 and the SVS sub eq is $849 plus tax. Dual Sub 12's would be a better option vs a single Ultra and the Ulra's are LARGE. The Paradigm Referance subs are nothing like the DSP's or Seismic's, they are the real deal. The PBK is a fantastic tool for dialing in your subs, it shows graphs of the actual in room response. Finding the best spot for your sub has never been easier, no more guessing. I would offer $2000 for the pair, when I was shopping for a sub the best price I could get on a Sub 12 was $1700 + tax + PBK. This was before the price increase which hit the PBK compatible subs pretty hard. The pics that I posted are of my Sub 15 when I first got it, I should get off my lazy a$$ one day and take some new ones. The size of my room is 25ftx17ftx8ft.I would head to your Paradigm dealer and give the Sub 12 a listen, you may not find a deal like this again. What subs do you have now?

I guess all the talk and reading on the forums can do that to you. For you though it sounds like you would benefit from adding one for sure..

I still wonder though since they have no problems at the loudest volumes now - if more power will make that much of a difference. Instead of buying amp amp/s I switched my receiver from a Yamaha HTR-6190(130wpc) to a Marantz SR8002(125wpc) and I think the difference that switch made is probably bigger than the XPA-2 and maybe even the XPA-1's could have done for my system. I guess others have claimed that the different amps have a different sound to them - I think the pre/pro though would have more of an affect on that though. I've tried higher end bi-wire cables, isolation/dampening and other little tweaks but the most effective changes for me were simple things like speaker placement.. room acoustics has also helped alot in my room. My room could probably do alot better with bass and sub placement but it sounds good enough that I don't wanna mess around with it since space is limited.

How big is your room? Can't remember if you already mentioned it..

How do those sound? I was thinking of picking up used but mint dual Sub 12's with a PBK kit off a member on the other forum but I would have to get rid of my subs first which might be hard to do. You think $2200cdn is a good deal for the duals with the kit?
I talked to friend of mine today and he's going to bring over his Anthem P5 next weekend. It's more than I want to spend on an amp but at least it will give an idea of what the 100's and 690 can really do. For the last four years once a year I start thinking of a new system and in the last for years I have replaced my system completely every year. So this is nothing new for me, I would like to find something that lasts me more than a year. If I don't keep it though, I'd like to try something different than Paradigm. So I'm pulling for this one so I'll be almost finished spending money on it.(who am I kidding) My friend is also going to bring his Sub 15 so we can here what duals will sound like. He's building a new house next year and wants to get a Sub 2, which means he'll sell me his Sub 15 for a good price. So hopefully I'll like the results of our tests.

Ha.. I got baby subs compared to everyone else's lately. I got my old BIC H-100 from my very first setup and an SVS PB10-NSD. They actually do pretty good in my room and I wasn't sub shopping but was offered that deal so I thought I'd ask. It is a good deal but like I mentioned earlier I would have to get rid of mine now first before my wife would allow me to pick those up. Plus the last time I talked to the seller was last week so they could be gone by now. Another thing holding me back is the talks with my wife about a bigger display - which is what she wants more. We'll see I guess but if anyone else is in the Edmonton area I can get in touch with the seller and help you both out.

I'd love to see some pics of your setup!! Sounds like a nice size room - I would love to have that space to play with.. speaker/sub/furniture/acoustic placement. How far do you got your 100's out at?

Last time I checked my dealers only Reference product was the Studio 100's. No subs and all Monitor speakers. I should call or drop by again it's been awhile.

A P5 Wow!! I'd love to try that in my room. Hope you plug that thing in to a dedicated circuit haha. I really wanted to pick one up off of CAM awhile back but It's always like that - I look - bookmark the page - then wait til it sells ha!! I bet that would really do your system good - then then going down from that might not give you the WOW that the P5 would give - that thing is a BEAST!!

P5 and dual Sub 15's - I'll be lookin out for your thoughts on that be sure to post I'm excited for you!

Looking at the spec of my M25 vs the SC07 is impressive. 7 X 160 watts Full Disclosure Power, 20Hz - 20kHz, at less than 0.03THD with all channels driven simultaneously into 8/4 Ohms. And I honestly hear no distortion at extremely loud (louder than I would listen) volumes.

But power might not be the whole problem. I still feel there is more to get out of these speakers. One thing I know for sure is that I get good bass at higher volumes, but it is tougher to get a lower volumes.

I use my Sub12 for movies all the time (unless the wife goes to bed), and when I listen to music, the sub12 goes off and the 100s are in LARGE mode.

A co-worker of mine has Monitor Audio speaker (the model that would be considered the equivalent to the 100s) and he has said on a number of occasions that he gets stunning bass out of his speaker alone, but it took over a year of owning them to really start to lossen up and play really deep and loud. So I simply keep using them in large mode and pump of music when I can and keep letting them break in.
I've had them for about two months, I've been looking at buying the same amp as you. It's a pretty sweet amp, stable down to 2ohms. You have plenty of current for your 100's, I think that's part of what I'm missing. I'd like to test them with an amp first before buying, in Ottawa almost nobody stocks power amps. They all want me to order it and pay for it first and if I don't want it only store credit as a return option. The reason I don't want to do that is if I don't keep the Paradigms I'll go with some Seaton Sound speakers which are self powered. So I wouldn't need an amp and not have to deal with selling it or buying something with store credit that I don't need or want. I don't have my 100's out that far from the wall, about 20 inchs. It would problably sound better but with two small kids I don't want to pull them out that far. So next weekend I'm going to test them with a friends amp and hopefully I'll like the results. If not I'll start seriously looking into the Seaton Sounds.

Yea I'm excited about it. I have four dedicated circuts in my room, two 20 amps and two 15 amps so power should not be a problem. I can't afford to spend that much on an amp right now or next year or the year after, I think it lists for $7000. If I were to spend that much more money it would need to be on more than just an amp.

My display is kinda lacking right now as well, last year I got a really good deal on an 60 inch LG THX plasma. It's like half of a really good tv, the colour and resolution are top notch. Black levels and shadow detail not so much. What kind of display are you looking at? If you can't swing the subs right now that should be the next thing on your list after a display. Having a really top notch sub improves your system more than you think. I love the sound of sealed subs too, make sure you listen to a good sealed sub before you buy.

let me add that perfect sound is EXPENSIVE..... so that Marantz and the Anthem would be a great place to start because you will get very very good sound from both. Both have very powerful amps and a quality sound, Anthem and Paradigm have the same Parent Company, so I am sure they work very well together.

OH, and once you have found Perfect Sound, let me know... cause I have heard $40,000 worth of Wilson Audio WATT Puppy speakers on $20,000 worth of gear and it sounded great, really F-ing great.... but not perfect. So let me know when you find it and what it actually sounds like....

Until then, I will be perfectly happy with very good quality sound.
