I "touted" Lane Kiffin? Hmmm... I'm too lazy to look it up, but I can't believe that I posted glowing reviews of his performance during his USC tenure -- perhaps I did in 2011?

Has Miami ever won the Coastal Division of the ACC?

Nah... We need this:

I was half joking. But ya, I recall it being evident from your early posts that Kiffin was going to become a top-tier HC who would lead USC back to the heights of the Pete Carroll years. Can't blame you though as Kiffin was raking in some insanely highly rated recruiting classes. It turned out he could recruit but didn't know how to develop talent or actually coach.

Ugly stuff. Supposedly she has a bunch of broken bones. If this is true the guy's career is likely over.

Oklahoma State RB Tyreek Hill Accused Of Choking Pregnant Girlfriend

Police arrested Oklahoma State running back Tyreek Hill Thursday night on probable cause for a felony charge of domestic abuse by strangulation. According to the police report, Hill got into a fight with his girlfriend at his place in Stillwater.

The Stillwater Police's media release says that the unnamed 20-year-old victim accused Hill of hitting her in the face and stomach, and choking her, and that her injuries were consistent with her accusations. The victim told police she is eight weeks pregnant with Hill's child, according to the police report obtained by the Tulsa World.

The only year we won the Coastal was in 2012, and we were on a self imposed postseason ban during the NCAA 'investigation.'

I personally don't call that winning the coastal since we withdrew from the ACC title game. We should have a loaded team next year, but I'm very cautiously optimistic going forward with Golden at the helm.

Georgia Tech will also have Thomas returning to run the offense.

It's similar to when Mizzou beat Kansas to make the Big 12 Championship game, but had to play Oklahoma and lost to them for the second time. So Kansas got the BCS game since they only had 1 loss.

Well that was quick. Alleged pregnant girlfriend beater Tyreek Hill has been kicked off Oklahoma St.'s team.

Oklahoma State Dismisses Tyreek Hill After Domestic Violence Arrest

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy has kicked running back Tyreek Hill off the team after his arrest on domestic violence charges, less than a week after Hill led the Cowboys to a comeback victory in Bedlam.

Hill is also dismissed from the OSU track team, and reading the newly-released probable cause affidavit it's not difficult to see why. It's full of allegations that Hill brutally beat his pregnant girlfriend, banging her head against the wall while choking her.
The probable cause affidavit is really damning. It states Hill threw around his pregnant girlfriend like a rag doll, punched her in the left eye giving her a black eye and swollen lip, choked her leaving visible injuries to the neck and punched her in the stomach several times. According to the original police report he also accused the cop of arresting him of being racist because Hill is black and his girlfriend is white.

Once you get to 12 or 16 teams you really do start to make the regular season not matter.

What I really want is 5 power champs + undefeated non-power 5 teams, but a random number of teams is impossible to schedule, so I'll settle for 8.

I would take 6 but I don't really want that, because the method of determining byes would be just as arbitrary as the decision as to who's included now.

Yeah, that's kind of my issue with expanding the playoff. With a four game playoff every game matters. If you get to 16 it becomes like college basketball where the individual games aren't that important and the excitement of games like Alabama-Mississippi State or Alabama-Auburn greatly decreases because it's not that important who wins because they both would most likely make the playoffs. I wouldn't hate if the playoffs expanded to six or eight but I'm fairly happy how it is.

That's a great hire by Malzahn. He's an offensive guru but needed help on defense. Muschamp may have flopped as a head coach at Florida but his defenses were usually solid and he was a very good defensive coordinator at Auburn and Texas. This was also a great move because it keeps Muschamp from going to fellow SEC schools Texas A&M and South Carolina, both of which reportedly offered Muschamp their coordinator jobs.

By the way, Muschamp's agent deserves a bonus. The contract he negotiated with Florida did not include an offset so Muschamp gets his entire $6.3 million buyout plus gets to keep all of his salary at Auburn, which is reportedly around $500,000-$600,000 per year in a 3-year deal. Normally a contract includes language that any salary the coach earns after being fired for the remaining length of their original contract will reduce the amount of the buyout, but Muschamp's didn't include this even though there's no way Florida couldn't have insisted that the deal had to include an offset.

Actually, like the BCS before it, my problem with the 4 team playoff is that 90% of college football games don't matter at all.

At the start of the season, ~60 teams will play utterly meaningless games all year, because being undefeated will get you no where.

And even inside the Power 5, some teams start the year without control of their own destiny. It's not obvious who they are, and enough teams will lose that you will probably get control, but the fact of the matter is you could theoretically have an undefeated champion in all 5 power conferences, and someone would then get left out, meaning whichever conference that was also played meaningless games.

When people talk about all games mattering, what they really mean is that there is a handful of meaningful games every week. Even most games in the power conferences don't matter, was anyone really paying attention to Oklahoma/Oklahoma State or LSU/Texas A&M as the end of the year approached?

My preference is 8 teams. In almost any season you'll have no major controversy with an 8 team playoff. Had the top-8 in the final CFP rankings made it this season you'd have every major conference team with 2 or fewer losses in and nobody with a legit gripe left out. But ya, if you expanded to 16 teams you'd have a bunch of mediocre 3-loss teams and maybe even a 4-loss team make it some years.

Mariota won the Heisman in major landslide as expected. He received the 2nd highest % of points in the voting in the history of the award behind only Troy Smith. Hopefully he doesn't follow Troy Smith's post-Heisman path and put up one of the worst big games performances of all-time (41-14 blow out loss to Florida in the title game with 35 total passing yards and -29 rushing) right after winning the award.

Mariota seems like such a nice guy. I really hope he can find success at the next level. Almost impossible not to root for this kid, he's so gracious and classy.
