I'm watching Trouble in Paradise now. It's such a fun and clever film. Hoping for an upgrade of this to go along with Design For Living. Criterion needs to have more Pre-Codes in the Collection.

Welp, even though I still can't log into my B&N account for some bizarre reason, I did receive the first of my two shipments today: Punch Drunk Love and The Player. Hopefully Short Cuts will arrive in the next couple days.

Even though I seem to remember a lot of folks here being unhappy with the artwork for PDL, I really like it. I even think it's moving, at least a little.

Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to watch either yet, because the UPS guy is very variable as to when he rings the doorbell and when he doesn't. So, I didn't even realize I had gotten them until very late. Definitely looking forward to each. I haven't seen The Player in what seems like ages.

Heh, I just realized I now have 3 Altman Criterions: 3 Women, The Player, and Short Cuts. And I'm probably the only person on this thread who wants this, but I would love if Criterion released Prêt-à-Porter. I just really like it, probably because of my love for fashion.

And yes, I'm aware that it will never happen.

McCabe & Mrs. Miller
Blood Simple
Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence

Now to see if I can resist making another trip or not.

That should make a wonderful double feature.

I'm also thrifty. My jaw drops at the amount of titles our forum friends are able to buy. I usually purchase only one or two titles during the bi-annual B&N Criterion sales. I didn't even have money for this one so I had a family member get me Dreams as a present for Christmas to help me keep my Kurosawa bd collection complete.

I'm in agreement with the Punch-Drunk Love artwork. I love it. I blind bought Short Cuts the other night and I'm glad I did because it's a fantastic, overlooked film. Robert Altman hit 2 home runs in a row with The Player and Short Cuts.

Certainly one of the more fascinating characters, too, given the narrative's relative proximity to Truffaut's own life.

I agree, and would say that I feel we were just robbed by Truffaut's premature death. Period. Since The 400 Blows has been so dissected by film enthusiasts, I need to see it again before writing my first review. To be honest, it's a little daunting choosing this film to start with, but I'm a firm believer in "going big, or going home".

I followed you on Twitter just now.

I often think that we were robbed of a great old man Doinel-type tale with Truffaut's death. Truffaut, who was said to have been unhappy with the admittedly somewhat mediocre Love On The Run, was working on a sequel, Le journal d'Alphonse, before his death. I think his notes were released as a book a few years ago, but its never been translated in to English (as far as I'm aware).

I have been watching the Lone Wolf and Cub set and the work Criterion did with the PQ and AQ is nothing but just short of incredible. Crazy to see some uninformed attempts to criticize this fantastic release. According to some, collectors should forget about restorations, PQ & AQ, special features and artwork..instead the focus should be on having more cardboard.

Everybody watch a Gene Tierney movie today. It's her birthday [emoji4]

Just watched Night and the City on Thursday. Realized her birthday was coming so I planned on watching a couple on her birthday

I'm watching (1st time)

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir

and a rewatch of

Leave Her To Heaven

Was going to watch The Razor's Edge too but it's very long so I'm just going to stick to these two.

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is brilliant. I've actually never seen the other one. But Happy b-day! She was one of the most beautiful actresses of her age, no doubt. And very talented. One of a kind.

All so true. I just became aware of her in the last year or 2. Stunning and talented. The only problem is paying attention to the movie and not being entranced by her.

Really wish someone would re-release Leave Her To Heaven because it's so great but very difficult to get a hold of on bluray.

and yes Abdrewes, I could use a re-watch of Laura too! Gonna have to do that even if I don't get to it today
