So, does streaming certain content only at night foretell a time when nothing can be streamed during daylight hours? That's where your "reasoning" always leads to: the complete end of something else.
I don’t know about that but there are several upcoming threats to our enjoyment of home cinema. I’m still not convinced we won’t be taxed for tv watching in the future. I read today that processed food and ready meals may have shocking images on the packaging to discourage consumption as part of a multi billion obesity campaign. They did this with cigarettes years ago and it was credited with getting over 2 million people to give them up.
I am reading reports from scientists saying ‘sitting is the new smoking’. Don’t be surprised if our governments start taxing families who own a tv as a deterrent from sitting too long.

If they can stop people eating meat by taxing, I’m sure as heck they can stop people enjoying their leisure time.

Only according to you. So many things seem to be only according to you.

Two hours is only enough time to watch approx. one movie, or two one hour episodes or four half-hour episodes and there is nothing "binge" about it.

The word "binge" means to "indulge in an activity to excess".

Spending two hours watching content is normal. If a person asks me what I did last night and I reply with "I watched TV for a couple of hours" there is no surprise in their reaction. If I reply that I watched TV for 8+ hours straight, then I get a noticeable reaction.

Go ahead and continue defining everything as you please, though. The comedy is appreciated.

Get it through your thick skull! There is nothing threatening the enjoyment of our home cinema Steedeel. As I said in my previous post, there are just multiple ways to enjoy it.

There are no threats facing our enjoyment of home cinema. None. None that I can even conjure up in the wildest reaches of my imagination. Where you see danger everywhere that you look, I see an increasing array of options.

There will be no tax imposed for sitting while doing anything. People sit for extended periods doing many varied things. Time spent seated is neither measurable nor enforceable in order for any government to tax it. It would also likely be unconstitutional here.

There will be no recurring tax for owning a TV. Some people have their TV on while going about their day and while doing housework and many other calorie burning activities. Some people actually exercise in front of one. The government can no more tax me for watching TV then they can for my reading a book or for my knitting you a much needed strait jacket.

You paid sales tax when you bought your TV, so you have already been taxed for having it. If you have pay TV services, you are already being taxed for your TV service. You are taxed for your phone and internet service, too.

Placing dietary warnings on less healthy foods, if that ever even happens, is neither a tax nor a threat to home cinema.

I have not seen any special tax on meat products and thus no one has stopped eating meat to avoid this non-existent tax.

As for taxes on cigarettes and on alcohol, both products remain readily available and widely used. The tax did nothing to eliminate either one. People more than likely quit smoking more for the health benefits than wanting to avoid taxation. Regardless, the choice was a voluntary one.

The government has nothing to gain by interfering with the enjoyment of their citizen's leisure time. I enjoy my abundant supply daily.

Your TV watching tax as a deterrent to sitting too long is one of the wackiest things that you have ever imagined; only your great Vegan conspiracy tops it. You have become the blu-ray.com equivalent of the supermarket tabloid.

How about something different.

Found in the AVS Samsung K8500 thread:

"I checked into Hulu and discovered this is not a Samsung problem. Hulu has decided to remove access to many devices, Blu Ray Players and TV's that use the Classic app. We last watched Hulu on Sunday. Now it's gone. Another poster in the HULU forum said they were told by Hulu to buy a new TV. That's insane. Guess I will be cancelling. I hope Netflix or Amazon never does business like that."

Absolutely not. Had quite a good education, own my own home, hold down a full time job. Pretty sure that would be quite difficult if I was mentally deranged. Although it’s extremely nice of you to suggest it.

I am not that surprised that a Hulu representative would suggest something so asinine. Yeah, I'll run out and buy a new TV just so I can subscribe to Hulu.

Maybe there is a grand conspiracy taking shape here? Maybe it is deliberate planned obsolescence to get us to buy new TVs more frequently? As we are beginning to see diminishing returns with the improvements to the latest TVs, perhaps a new motivation is needed? Streaming apps won't work unless you buy the latest TV model offered!

See what can happen when you read Steedy's paranoid too often?

Or you could just buy a $40 Roku and the whole conspiracy dies before it is even born.

There’s nothing really new there either JohnAV. I had a similar issues way back when we first got our first BD player. All of sudden Netflix was no longer supported on our player. I called the manufacturer support, which was far from it. Long story short, comes to find out that manufacturer was getting out of the BD player market and concentrating solely on their flatscreen and soundbars. I ended up taking it back and picking up 2 Sony players for the original cost of that player.

There are some interesting thoughts, Samsung like LG retains the same GUI/OS for a given model year, never updates it after the first 6 months to a year. Streaming on these sets is a convenience, no one points out older TV’s could lack the necessary processing or environment to run the latest app. A new form of disaster for streamers.

Yes but that’s not just players. It’s some TV sets also.

Apps, like most software, require updates and eventually older devices will lack the resources to accommodate them. You either upgrade your hardware or forego using that app.

My ancient smartphone can no longer run certain apps and I can either at the heavens, do without the app, or buy a newer phone. For the time being I have chosen door #2 and I continue to use my Samsung Note 3.

At least with streaming apps, dedicated streaming devices, like the Roku, are extremely affordable. Buy one of these and it does not matter if your older TV's built-in apps cease to work.

Some players run Android or similar so the OS can receive up to date Apps, but a lot of players including Oppp as a past example had to specifically chase after the streaming app vendor to get updates. Naturally some could care less about a app being on a player as it wasn’t financially attractive to provide support or in their interest.

I never understood why some people felt they needed to have a Netflix app on both their TV and their disc player. Anyone that enamored by streaming apps would be better served by a dedicated streaming device which are known for handling updates easily and for far longer. They're very inexpensive also.

So it’s a shame that built in apps are actually growing in popularity. Am I right In thinking you are much better off using a tv operating system such as Android? That way, surely a simple update when required would be easy to implement.

Edit: looking at the post above, it does seem to be the case. I don’t think it will be too long before we have 3 major operating systems dominating the tv landscape. TV OS, Android and Roku.

TVs, like disc players, often do not provide enough processing power, or even simple memory storage, to allow updates indefinitely. I think my TV only allocates 1 GB of total storage space to update everything, including firmware, OS, and all of the installed apps, and I have already used nearly 40% of it.
