Does anyone know if Criterion plan to start releasing movies in the Ultra HD BD format in 2017? If so, will they be releasing their movies using HDR or Dolby Vision?

For sure! That's my choice. Gangs of New York is the only Scorsese film I don't like and The King of Comedy is already on blu ray.

I'd kill for Kundun and/or The Age of Innocence. Pretty sure the former will never happen, though. Powers-that-be too afraid of pissing off China.

I doubt next year. Maybe in 2018. Criterion waited 2 years after Blu-Ray was officially released, so that's my inferred guess. Still, you bring up a good point. My guess is DV, since Criterion is all about quality, so they would want the best HDR possible. Then again, they do have the option of not using any HDR, it depends on the filmmakers, as long as they are alive to approve.

I feel like "Age of Innocence" is considered the most likely.

Afterhours for several reasons. Least of which, to acknowledge that big clock cartoon clue which I don't think was ever linked to an actual release.

I honestly don't care which they pick all of the choices are great just as long as we get more Scorsese. I just found it odd with how much he works with Criterion that he doesn't have more films in the collection

Age Of Innocence is one of the most beautiful films ever made. It deserves a Criterion release. Same with Kundun (Scorsese and Deakins? You kidding me?). After Hours is a great choice, too. I'm also wishing for a collection of his shorts he made in his career. I know they're on YouTube but I want to put them in my shelf.

And to MassiveMovieBuff, if you didn't like Gangs Of New York, which I did like, you may want to blame Harvey Weinstein for the changes he forced Scorsese to make. That's why it isn't as good as it should be, but I still enjoyed it. I just wish we'd see his original vision, but he's an atheist when it comes to director's cuts (New York, New York is a different situation).

I doubt they ever start. Physical media sales are still dropping and aren't likely to rise anytime soon. They are lucky to be making a profit with regular Blu-ray as it is.

It's not a Criterion, but that runner-up poster of Valley of the Sasquatch is pretty awesome.
