Watched Being There several times and have suggested it too, never heard of Blow-Up. Sounds interesting.

Definitely in for Multiple Maniacs . Not really feeling the rest (though I haven't seen Canoa).

I'm always in for more Antonioni. I don't consider Blow-Up to be one of his best, but Antonioni's best is a very high bar. It's still an excellent film.

I knew nothing about Canoa, so I looked it up. Wow. This sounds very good and intriguing. I'm always excited by the prospect of a film I know nothing about.

Best introduction to Antonioni? I would suggest the Passenger, as it's a fairly conventional film by his standards. It's a good way for someone to dip their toe in the waters.

Some comments make it seem like Blow Up is a lesser Antonioni film, I really have no opinion on this since I haven't seen it but according to aggregate lists like Sight & Sound poll and TSPDT top 1000, it consistently ranks around the top 100 films 3rd or 4th Antonioni with only L'Avventura and L'Eclisse on top.

Maybe it is too different to those films? I personally think this could be a risky blind buy since those those two on top are not really my favorites, for me those would be La Notte and Red Desert.

Goddamn this line up.

I'm down for Blow-Up, Multiple Maniacs, and Being There.

I want to have enough money for the July B&N sales.

But this might take all my money.

That, and the Australian Government is implanting GST on overseas shopping from July the 1st next year.

I hope this isn't a sign that 2017 is going to be a worse year, right?

How about that ultra-low-budget oddity called Detour?

Yeah the good times are well and truly over for us in that regard. It was inevitable though.

I'd seen some chatter on twitter about this, and this confirms that Criterion will be releasing Desert Hearts

SPECIAL REVISION
- A LETTER FROM DAVID KALAT, OF
ALL DAY ENTERTAINMENT, 10/12/00

Glenn, I just read your review of Image/Wade Williams' Detour DVD and laughed out loud--you really hit the nail on the head! But get this: Yes, PRC did make trailers and the Detour trailer still exists. Wade Williams owns it. He chose simply not to bother including it on his DVD.

You see, Wade Williams is an ardent foe of public domain, and he believes that because he bought the materials from a legitimate chain linking back to the original makers, that that grants him some special copyright. I approached him in 1997 to do a Detour DVD and he was reluctant ever to release the film on DVD out of piracy fears. He overcame that fear, clearly, but his reluctance to include the trailer stems from a fear that it would be pirated off the DVD to appear on other, in his view illegitimate, releases too.

There have been efforts to properly restore Detour from various sources. Kino recently mastered a nice 35mm nitrate restored by the UCLA Film Archives but abandoned their project when Image's DVD came out. It is NOT a case where Williams' ability to fix Detour is hampered by other PD companies unwilling to part with prints. It is the other way around. Other film preservationists interested in restoring Detour to the best it can now look are hampered by Williams' unwillingness to cooperate. Without access to his print, the flaws in the Kino/UCLA master cannot be fixed. Williams is himself the obstruction.

Didn't you find it funny that he started the DVD with a huge anti-piracy warning about how it was only licensed for home viewing? It's a public domain movie, for godssake! He can put whatever warning page he wants there but it won't change the fact that he doesn't have any legal right to "license" it for limited home use! -- David Kalat, All Day Entertainment

Looking forward to seeing Being There. Was able to pick up on e bay 12 Angry Men for less than $20 and got Brazil for $15 including shipping. Have seen 12 but Brazil is a blind buy. One of those films have heard about through the years but never took the opportunity to watch.

Definitely in for Blow-Up. I saw Zabriskie on the big screen last year and cannot wait for a BD - please let it be from Criterion

It's a bit puzzling. Many have been looking forward to it for some time. It was only a matter of WB licensing it out.

I think there's a certain tendency when discussing films to compare it against a given director's films. I think part of this goes back to reminding others that one has seen the other films from the director. I'm for appreciating a film on its own merits. Very much looking forward to this release!

Amazon placeholders are up. Something to keep an eye on in case any of them are introduced at a very low price point (a la The Before Trilogy).

This! I honestly can't see Warner Archive releasing it, unless Clearance issues like the music or the material, which I doubt are withholding it's release, rather Criterion and I hope they get the Home Video rights to Warner's other Kerkorian/Aubrey-led Post '69 MGM Films "Brewster McCloud" + Sam Peckinpah's the Theatrical, Turner Preview '88 & Re-cut (w/ that scene with Pat Garrett and his wife) "Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid".

A Face In the Crowd would be the perfect companion to Ace In the Hole.
They NEED to release "The Breaking Point" on Blu, while happy for "Mildred Pierce"'s Inclusion, felt "The Breaking Point" not being issued yet was a most awful snub like yes Warner Archive releasing, not Criterion, "Bad Day At Black Rock" w/o John Sturges Commentary on the Criterion laserdisc, though I'm sure they are taking there time on restoring the Out Of Print/Expensive "The Breaking Point" as well I assume Mervyn LeRoy's, the Paul Muni film, "I Am A Fugitive From A Chain Gang" (the DVD went out of print same time as Before Trilogy, Blow-Up, Dreams, Barcelona, etc., so I'd assume they got the rights to it, same with "Freaks" based on the Todd Browning Criterion page w/ no films.)

"A Face In The Crowd" is highly likely, the DVD went OOP around the same time as the previously mentioned Warner titles I brought up like "Blow-Up" in Nov. 2014 going out of print, then being included in the Collection, though it was sad around that same time or similar, "Murder My Sweet" and "Seven Days In May: went OOP on DVD, some assumed Criterion would release them, then later on (at least DVD for the latter OOP Nov 2014 film) Warner Archive puts them out on Blu Ray and/or DVD.
Though I'd kill for more extras on it and "The Breaking Point". Again it's likely the elements could have been difficult for proper restorations that will likely come to pass.
Just curious about the Warner owned silents on people's requests for silents for their Blu Ray Collection, makes me nervous, though I hope the deal goes through with more more inclusions.

Hope they get the other films you mentioned out on Criterion Blu. Wish they could get with new scans and lossless original Mono audio "A Fistful Of Dollars" and "For a Few Dollars More", welcome MGM Home Entertainment Blus being phased out or/and titles being included, released through Boutique HV labels. Hope Criterion snag the rights to "In The Heat Of the Night (w/ Lossless original Mono + 1967 Colorful, Circles United Artists Transamerica Logo that opened "You Only Live Twice" in 1:85:1", Traffaut's "The Wild Child" (1970), "Arthur Hiller's "The Hospital" (1971 with George C. Scott)", "Last Tango In Paris", "Platoon" and "The Usual Suspects"
