I think everyone is hoping cases drop, regardless of movie release dates.

I think Nolan is pretty insistent that Tenet be one of the first new releases out of the gate, regardless of the actual date. So, if theaters open in 2020, we'll get Tenet in 2020.

I was told that Tenet is a "summer film". August 12th is the edge of summer. I was told specifically, if the case don't drop, "Memorial Day 2021 to kick off next summer". That's the same time Godzilla Vs Kong is coming. Now that's a week apart and WB won't drop those two side by side.

It leaves Disney in a hell of a predicament with Mulan. I get a big laugh out of that. The person I know doesn't work for Disney, so, I don't know what's going on over there. That's a checkmate on the Chess board for them to either release it now or push it back to next year. And we know Disney is the greediest. If Mulan gets pushed back; then it leaves the current releases for Soul and Black Widow in doubt.

Possible First Look at New Godzilla vs. Kong Figures...

It'll probably hurt toy sales with the movie having zero marketing. I wonder if they will even be in stores still by the time the movie comes out.

But I don't mind, I'll grab them all up the moment I see them.

I don't think toy sales would hurt too badly. Because if the Toy is awesome enough even without a movie, it'll sell.

Edit: This whole thing made me realize that Toys R' Us isn't around, and that makes me sad

I miss Toys R Us. It still feels weird knowing that they aren't around.

I never had a ToysRUs close enough to visit. Ever since they closed buying toys have become so much more convenient for me. I doubt Walmart would have carried Godzilla figures if ToysRUs was still around. Now Target and Walmart have collectible sections and exclusive lines. Their closure lead to companies having to push their product into other stores.
