Reading alot of people not digging the game on Resetera.. only a few hours into the game and I see that might be the case for me eventually..
Massive open world, with too much to do. Alot of chores and mundane activities. Doesn't help the controls and aiming are averrage at best. |

Well, I was on that train for over 8 hours as I had the game running while I slept, and when I returned to it later and switched the TV back on, I found something must have happened as Arthur was off the train, on his horse and without a hat on. I'm thinking Arthur either got too hungry and died, or there might have been a train robbery that I missed with the TV off. I was in the big city of New Orleans (not the name of the game city, but it's much like it). So eventually, something happens so you can't sit on the train forever.
![]() I can confirm, the whole map is not open/unlocked from the start and will require missions to unlock. If you head out southwest, near Blackwater's land, you'll be [Show spoiler] Even so, the landscape is enormous, and easily proving this is the largest open world Rockstar games has made so far. This makes GTAV's mountain island like a tiny blip on the map. Some of the controls are complex, but with patience, I'm getting used to it. Very much enjoying exploration of RDR2. Visited a movie theater, then a stage show with a few entertaining acts in the big city by the water. Quote:
A few stray wild horses out there. I want to see if I can lasso one and tame it. Then saddle it up. |

Only about 12% done with the story didn’t realize there were bronze gold and silver for completing missions, but whatever... Think this game does a better job of keeping you story focused than GTA4/5 even when I take side hunting trips. Love that you can loot everyone on a mission lol really helps rack up the $ I’m at about 1k $$$$ so far so it’s nice not feeling too broke for anything lol

I don’t think I’d really define it as slow paced just better more natural human motions which is inherently slower even when you compare it GTA4 and RDR1 they’ve come a long way since then lol
There is a learning curve but I mostly find it’s due to the structure of the weapon wheel I’ve also had instances early on where I’m trying to talk to someone and I shoot them cause RT feels more natural than LT. Overall it’s like a lot of rockstar games so big it can be overwhelming... Feeding the horse and yourself aside from wanting to regain health is tedious I feel like that should have been an extreme mode like fallout has. I love the game so far, but I can see how some gamers will just get annoyed with it or tired of it Sometimes I feel like Bethesda is better at giving people a lot without making them feel overwhelmed |

How are you guys playing it?
Real close up camera, middle camera, furthest away camera or first person? I prefer the real close up camera view because I like getting all the details. I switch it up to first person whenever I need to get back on foot (like when [Show spoiler] )

I'm currently stuck playing poker loads of the time for pity change lol. Decided i should go to the main quests after all, that's where the money is. I'm gonna try getting the side quests done but a little observation; when i had a side quest fail and reloaded the little 'random' people, they're appearing again at different times and theywantt you to take them to different areas.
I couldn't find the legendary bear again after i died and reloaded the game so maybe i need to use the bait again. The games also not as great on the graphics as i thought it would be. The textures and hair are very poor in many places outside of the main character. |

Overall though, the graphics are very impressive IMO with all of the artistic design, lighting, shadows and landscape, buildings and animals. But some pedestrian characters aren't as refined.
The options are better than expected. I'm currently happy that on foot, you can select to toggle the RUN button on or off, so you don't have to keep holding down as you run. Just tap it once, then he'll keep running till you stop. This was clearly a concern in the past, otherwise they wouldn't have added such a feature. Good move, Rockstar! I hated trying to run by holding X and somehow control both analogs at the same time. It won't work with the horse though. I have Arthur conditioned so well now that he almost doesn't get tired for miles when running non stop. Only up hills does he tire out. Quote:

I'll use the Cinematic camera and hold X so the horse stays on the trail, during follow missions. |

Also now that I’ve become used too the controls and I can relax a bit, I’m absolutely loving it, Scenery is the best I’ve ever seen in any game. Yes, it is slow, but that’s how I love playing games, although I can appreciate that to others this could be a game Breaker. Still, half way into chapter 2 and it’s far and away one of the best games I’ve ever played. Last edited by dirkblack; 10-27-2018 at 10:45 PM. |
