Kind of a quick / dirty side by side comparison - if anyone's interested.
No difference in setup, just took the pics, popped the other disc in the player, and tried to get as close to the first set as possible.

Used a cell phone, no tripod.

like I said...quick / dirty.

Gosh the SC looks better without a doubt. The Sony still looks pretty great though.

It's not so much "over", it's just different. There's a much warmer feel to it than the neutral tones of the Sony, usually I'm gushing over the latter on any given movie but that's vs the usual dull SDR yellow push, not glorious HDR yellow push! This is one movie where neutral just doesn't quite fit IMO. The colour also feels a bit samey at times on the Sony, the Diva framed against Earth in the background is all kinda one shade of blue in the Sony but she's got more separation in the SC. The SC also has MUCH less edge enhancement, why Sony kept slapping it on this movie I've no idea but the SC looks more filmic to me as a result. It's funny that the Sony transfer is actually less 'hot' than the SC but is way more edgy and sharpened. The SC has much less of that stuff but has more aggressive HDR and brightness (to the extent of clipping big chunks of highlight detail), it's like there's no one perfick transfer.

IF the Sony hadn't been so Sharpy McSharpface then I'd prolly prefer that one and wouldn't be so keen to rationalise what the SC is doing to the colour and range, but as it is I'll take the harsher grade with softer edges (SC) than the harsher edges with a softer grade (Sony). Most definitely. I wish I imported the Steelbook. DV re-issue is likely right around the corner though.

I have to say it's one I won't be rebuying though. DV won't be able to fix that baked-in sharpening on the Sony and even though the OG audio will be there it's not something I'm craving as the Atmos isn't badly revisionist (Sony's Atmos remixes usually aren't).

This will be mine as I missed out on the first SC exclusive Steelbook release. It has a much better encode vs the Sony release.

Damn those sold out quick. Really nice editions and steelbook is nice as well (although imo not as nice as the most recent release).

The StudioCanal Euro 4k transfer is the best rendition, in my opinion.

The Zavvi release will be in partnership with StudioCanal, so I assume it will be that same Euro transfer with Dolby Vision grading. The release even has the logo on the outer slip box.

It would not surprise me if Sony released a DV Steel in the States at some point.
