I placed an order really fast too after receiving the text that he had stock. What has me concerned is that when I placed my order it didn't mention anything about the sets being "damaged". It said the sets had slight blemishes. I guess he changed the listing but my concern is are all the sets he sold this morning in fact damaged or where the initial ones he listed just slightly blemished while the final ones the ones with damage? I don't mind a slightly imperfect set with minor blemishes but not interested in getting one that is flat out damaged. I did email them about this issue but have not heard back yet.

Wow I pre-ordered only a mere 2 weeks before release (through Barnes & Noble) & I'm SO... glad that I did (LOVING the set too).
It's funny that I pre-ordered the Criterion Godzilla set months before release expecting it to get scarce yet to this day you can get still find plenty of it. Yet with the Gamera set I thought well not a lot of people care about Gamera so I have nothing to worry about. Yet it's now been sold-out for weeks & is going for scary prices from 3rd party sellers. I hope Arrow does reprint this set soon b/c more folks needs to experience this goldmine of a box set. |

That is because the Godzilla set isn't a limited edition. Well the US set isn't limited, but the UK set was and it sold out pretty quickly, so they renegotiated and released a second, and final, run that might still be available.

They will be releasing a standard edition box similar to many of their other sets that dropped the book and any other extras that came with the L.E. version. |

I think you should be fine if you ordered before the first sell out today. |

I'm still waiting for an order to be received. Granted I had it shipped to Canada, but I placed the order on 8/20, and he still hasn't shipped it yet...he said he is super busy and swamped, but hopefully it leaves by the end of the week.

This is from the interview you've referenced:
"It’s no secret that the boxset has been limited to 8,000 copies – 5,000 in the US and 3,000 in the UK. At the time we decided that quantity, it seemed like a sensible amount for a niche product that would last until the end of the year, so we’ve been genuinely flabbergasted that it’s pretty much sold out within its first week of release! I’m very sad for those who wanted a copy and weren’t able to get one in time, as we worked very hard on it and I want everyone who wants a copy to get one." Nowhere does it say that the right holder(s) set a limit to how many copies could be distributed. |

Well, the limited set price is jacked on eBay and OOP now- but if you missed it, like I did, do not fear, Arrow will release a standard set early next year, I was just told.
As I am not a die hard Gamera fan, I can live with one that is a bit more affordable- maybe in the $70-80 price range- and hopefully will fit nicely on my shelf and not have to be a super sized brick. Personally, I wish the Godzilla set was the same, but so be it- the movies are what matter. Last edited by indiansbsa; 09-08-2020 at 01:57 PM. |

For anyone here who is concerned about the audio sync issues on Gamera The Brave, I received the following email from Arrow today:

That's great! I'm glad to hear they're at least looking into it. Like I said, I can believe there are some dialogue/FX/music sync issues inherent in the mixes they got from Media Blasters, but the Arrow disc sounds like everything -- at least the dialogue and effects, where the synchronization is easiest to judge -- is off by a similar amount. I'll definitely be on the lookout for any updates. |

The reason you don't see a lot coming out of UCLA is because they have a policy of only doing photochemical restorations. That involves restoring the elements and creating a new negative to strike projection prints off of. It's an expensive process and their funds are limited. So they pick and choose what they can afford to restore, and the rest just sits there. Personally, I think they should focus on running as much through a scanner as possible, but that isn't their policy.
