It's flattering that you like my covers enough to copy them almost exactly, but if I'm being honest, I don't approve of them, but that's all I can really do or say...

I have spent a lot of time on this collection, starting from the bottom and making my own template, working and re-working each film until I was perfectly content... it's been a lot of work, and to see your covers that go so far as to have my name on them is honestly kind of frustrating.

Whether or not you choose to continue making covers using my template, I would appreciate it if you would remove my name/identifier from them.

hemala321:

i wish you'd use those works of art (and similar styles of art) on future designs.

but as RebelPrince says, using his design is probably not the best way to go with these. there's plenty of ways to incorporate this kind of style in a template that is of your own design.

i hope you continue with your series in your own way and someone else's.

I was in much the same position a few pages back where an enterprising soul took it upon himself to "finish" my Hitchcock collection, and even going so far as to replicate many of them exactly. (It happened with my Bond-series too.) I too appreciated the compliment in the imitation, but I was far from okay with it. I reacted in the same way you did, and the poster removed his versions (though I believe he felt my disapproval was unwarranted). I hope hemala321 respects your wishes and discontinues the work entirely.

Speaking for myself, though I can assert no legal ownership over my designs, I do take my work very seriously, and feel very possesive about it. Anyone who's ever created something of their own will understand.

Thanks Nissen.

I do feel the need to be protective over my work even though I too own no legal ownership over them, as a whole they are works of mine that are in almost all cases more than just taking a poster or image and tossing it onto a template. It's many many hours of ofttimes painstaking work.

I feel bad having been put in a position where I was forced to publicly vocalize my stance – I didn't want to come across as greedy or rude –*but I have put a ton of work into my covers and I do feel a bit possessive over them and I know that making a near exact copy of them must have taken a lot of time, but it doesn't change the fact that I have very clearly left my signature on them and to have someone come along and replicate it to the extent of using a modified version of my signature in the fine print was a very strange feeling for me and one that I felt it necessary to react honestly to as soon as it was brought to my attention.

To hemala, if you read this... I do hope you will continue in trying to find a style or template that works for you, I just wish it wasn't mine. It's very obvious and I have made no attempt at hiding the fact that I was heavily inspired by the template that Criterion uses, but I put my own work into it and made my own mark on it and I think you can do the same without using the template that I created. Who knows, maybe you'll create something even better!

I will drop this now and let it rest, I've said all I can say on the matter, but thank you again Nissen for the message.

I have made some covers, all feedback is welcome. It was my first time trying to make covers, so please do not be too harsh.

Some notes:
1) I would put the title of the film (and remove the WDC banner) on the front, and move the year of release on the spine.

2) Change the font size. The text looks like it's going to burst out of the boxes. The description header should be removed as well.

3) I would look on how Disney, Criterion, or whatever covers you are taking for information list their specs to give the specs category a sleeker look.

But you're on the right track.

You are on the right track. I don't like the font you are using for all the type. The Year on the spine would be better as the other poster stated. Get rid of the Walt Disney collection on the spine and the year there.

Anyone have scans of the Robocop 2 & Robocop 3 standalone releases? Found a couple customs but would prefer the originals if possible

Looks great, although there's already a Moonrise Kingdom with that art that is practically identical if I recall correctly.

Really great artists on this board. I've been lurking in this thread for months. Always interesting to see artists support each other and grow.

I wondered if anyone has thought of making a custom 25th Hour cover (or any other Spike Lee joint from the collected volumes). I think this film deserves a respectable, standalone release.

Keep up the good work!

Is there any way the Moorise Kingdom cover could be made to fit the CC clear case?

Great looking set, Nissen! Very clean, and I loved the subdued "vintage" colors you brought out for the accents.
