I highly recommend this film. I wouldn't say necessarily to buy because how often are you gonna watch a doc more then once you know? But it's on FilmStruck whee I watched it and it's incredibly fascinating.

When you cross (no pun intended) Scorsese with religion, you have absolutely high art.

Completely agree which is why we deserve a religion trilogy box set from him from Criterion.

Criterion < I just like to put this on every post here!

I finally finished Dekalog a little over two weeks ago, and I wanted to give myself some time to digest my experience.

Well, what an incredible piece of cinematic and artististic film-making/story-telling it was! Krzysztof Kieslowski has become one of my favorite directors.

I think that Episode 10 was my favorite. It reminded me of a Chekhov comedy. In addition, it was great to see Zbigniew Zamachowski and Jerzy Stuhr, the two actors who played brothers in Three Colors: White (my favorite of the Three Colors trilogy,) paired up as brothers in this film. It was truly remarkable to see the range of both of these actors because each of their characters were vastly different in both films. Bravo!

I don't know much about Burroughs other than Naked Lunch is a difficult read, but the movie is among my favorites and I have watched it several times. The way Peter Weller talks about him, suggests Burroughs was not only a weird dude but a brilliant man as well, and that has me interested. So I could probably watch his doc more than once. I listen to Bill Hicks all the time on youtube, even though I've heard every joke he's told. Same principle.

My guess? They are usually cheaper (only by a few dollars, but for many that's enough) and most people don't care that much about picture quality, or at least the upgrade from DVD to BD isn't as substantial as VHS to DVD was.

No, that's the one. If you're even remotely interested it's well worth picking up. Burroughs is a man whose real life stories rival that of any movie plot. In terms of 'rewatchability' (is that a word?), the disc is stacked with extras including a commentary with Jim Jarmusch, and 70 minutes of outtakes that basically extend the film another hour, among other things. It was one of my favourite releases of 2015, and I am not that big a fan of his writing. A great pairing/double feature with Naked Lunch as well.

Oddly enough, I also wrapped up my Dekalog viewing a little over 2 weeks ago myself! Episode 10 was indeed quite fun to watch compared to the very somber previous 9 episodes. That 10th episode almost reminded me of an Aki Kaurismaki film, if you're acquainted with his work.

I have a newfound appreciation for Kieslowski after experiencing the Dekalog without a doubt. Now I'm telling all my friends here in town about this amazing TV series that aired in Poland in the late 1980s. Even so-called "cinephile" friends of mine are surprised they never watched this yet.

I have watched the first two episodes. Liked the first but hated the second. 50 percent of the film seemed to consist of the female lead chain smoking.

Strangely enough, the second episode was one of my least favorite of the 10. But it only got better after that.

Ugh, I literally purchased it to rent on Amazon the day before this happened.

Hell of a film, by the way. Been ruminating for days, as it should be.

[Show spoiler]

Watched Episode 9 last night, one more to go. My wife and I have been doling these out to each other over the past three months whenever we've wanted to put on something exceptional, and although some episodes have been more powerful than others, none has disappointed. So much about this production is impressive, from the technical aspects to the cinematography and the acting. And the emotional depth of the performances makes them indelible even though the episodes are only an hour or so long. In fact they almost seem to be mini-feature films in their own right.

Started to watch the suppliments when the package arrived, until starting to encounter the odd potential spoiler. Am really looking forward to returning to them once we have completed the exercise.

We did have one unanticipated reaction to the production. Despite the material challenges that the Polish (and east-European peoples generally) have faced (even the doctors evidently drove crappy old sub-compacts!) they are portrayed, with exceptions, as a strong, competent, generous and caring, generally self-assured people. And primarily, as Adults! So who are the 'winners'?

And thanks again to Oscar (Fellini912) who turned me on to this wonderful experience several years ago.

I'm sure this has been asked numerous times but speaking of the Dekalog, how should I watch the episodes with extended films? Watch the films? Episodes? Or both? If both, which should be viewed first? Thanks for any kind of insight.

Just finished episode three last night and have been really enjoying the experience.

From what I gather, the extended versions only enhance the shorts.

I'd personally watch the standard versions first.

Thanks, I was kind of planning to run through the episodes first.

I understand that one of the films has an alternate ending? Is there a general consensus on which ending is preferred?
