News on the UMC-1 pre-pro (and other products) for those interested. Of course, they have to get through the pre-order list first.

Alas, more news of upcoming gear from the Emo News page. There's news of a Class H flagship amp currently dubbed the XPR-7 projected for the end of the year. And crazyBLUE, you might want to make note - it's listed as 400W into 7 Channels at 8 ohms.

New ‘Flagship’ Amplifier – A new, super-powered Class H amp is in development, to replace the MPS-2. This is tentatively named the XPR-7, and will feature 7 channels, with 400 watts per channel. No specific time frame for completion is set, but it is possible the amplifier will be released before year’s end.

I'm in!

Dang ~ I wonder how much that will cost . 7 channels 400 watts each ! I'll bet that will be around $2,000.oo bucks . & way more than worth it . My problem with this would be not needing that much power on the rear surr. & maybe A little much for the surr..I want my front sound stage to be stronger than it is But I wonder what that would do to the surround field having all that power !!

Its just headroom, thats what your individual speaker gain settings are for.

That just seems that it would be more than I need . Something like the XPR-7 seems to me like you would use in A vary large room ! I am going to order A more powerful amp for my fronts next week along with 1 or 3 more subs for my HT !!

Here is my problem ! I have A matching set front sound stage (front L/R/C) That I will not replace because they are great sounding towers ! I can not Bi-amp them . I want to give them more than enough power to drive them ! This is why I am having A problem choosing witch amp !

Just curious are your speaker gain levels on the receiver turned down very low?

Yes, the gain would be the speaker level, its a + or - db setting. When you do the audessy, it sets them for you. You might just need to turn them up, I don't think you need a new amp.

I know what you are talking about now , I have seen the Graph showing where it set all of the speakers ! I will play with this tomorrow when everyone is gone & I can ! I still need to buy an amp though because when I'm happy in the HT the UPA-2 goes in the bedroom !!

I don't know yet But it might just be the XPA-3 know so it will cover the 3 fronts equally . The UPA-7 will cover the surrounds ! I will decide in the next few days !

As SammyG said, it's just headroom. Having 200 watts to the surrounds does not mean your surrounds will be driving 200 watts. The class A/B design will provide power where and when it's needed. As long as your AVR +/- gains levels are adjusted you'll be fine, and in this respect all things being equal the gain on the surrounds would normally be less than the front stage due to their relative proximity to the sitting position, thus "equalizing" the volume level on all the channels. So, that said, my vote is still for an XPA-5 over an XPA-3 taking into account the 1200VA toroid in the XPA-5 vs. the 850VA toroid in the XPA-3. You could then put the UPA-2 to use for the back surrounds and move the UPA-7 into the bedroom for a 2nd HT room.

THANKS ! I know what the gain levels are now ! & I like the Idea of the XPA-5 in the sense that at 3 channels it will be 250 watts per channel & has the bigger toroid as well !

Thanks red .

I've got the XPA-5 amp and I'll tell you it's incredible. my front 3 are matching polks my levels were set by audssey with my front 3 set to L & R @ -7.0db, C @ 8.5db all set to full and let me tell you, they sound incredible. I am very happy with my speakers, my settings and of course my Emo XPA-5 @ 250wpc all channels driven @ 8ohms! Oh, the other two channels on the XPA-5 are for my two surround TSi200 speakers set to -8.0db and set to large!

Think, if you buy the XPA-5, you could use 3 channels for your fronts and then use the other two channels to bi-amp your surrounds and drive your low freq's with 250wpc and the low freq's with the UPA-7 @ 125wpc...I bet that would change your surrounds juice for the better!

I'm gonna buy the UMC-1 and also the UPA-2 for my surround back 2 channels, then, i'm done! for now....
