I always thought they should have made another movie following the same format as EFNY & EFLA... plisken sent into a city, the basketball court / death match, etc..

I remember when I was a kid back in the VHS days someone convinced me there was actually another movie called Escape from Cleveland.

I've always enjoyed Escape from LA, but only recently I watched both movies back to back with a friend who had not seen them, and she remarked how EFNY was better because it took itself somewhat seriously. I have to agree. But I still think the surfing scene is awesome.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but am I the only one to take L.A. seriously?

Yeah I like the surfing scene too. It was weird seeing Bruce Campbell with that freaky looking plastic surgery face he had and didn't know that it was him until a few years later.

Also, CGI is scarceful (how many minutes? Very few) and not that bad at all. '90ies CGi sucked, overall speaking. I found it great, in line with the "psychotronic" nature of the movie.

Agreed, disregarding the wide establishing shots where the painfully dated CGI is clear, most of the special effects still hold up (although there is a clear "outline" around Kurt when he jumps his motorcycle, lol).

They waited to long to make EFLA in my opinion,to bad the numbers were bad, otherwise we would probally have had EFE.

I couldn't believe how bad this movie was, after its predecessor!

Well, they talk about the Cleveland job that Snake got screwed over on in EFLA.

I watched this again just now. The CG really does stink. It's okay(ish) at the beginning but some of the stuff (the surfing) is so far beyond bad it goes all the way around again and becomes awesome. Stuff of the same vintage is equally as crap (Eraser, et al).

There are sequences in this where it feels like Carpenter isn't even trying - the world's slowest car shootout, for example, when Snake's just landed in LA.

Are you joking? That only sequence had far more action than Escape from New York (the entire movie). It was marvellous!

I must add that LA Plissken kills a lot of people in the movie and is far far far more evil and wild than New York Plissken.

Long live Stephen Daniel Robert Plissken !!!!!

I have both movies but will always prefer EFNY
ELA had moments but it was just too tongue in cheek for me

EFNY and EFLA are two sides of the same coin. Two different sides, same coin. I love this....... GENIUS!

Not the bike chase bit - as soon as Snake lands the sub two cars come past shooting at each other in a 'high speed' chase. They're going about 20mph. Literally.

Here's that script. It isn't Luck's, but it is the "uncut" Carpenter/Hill script:

I actually have the colored pages shooting script someone who worked on the film gave me. Very cool.

I'll add the colored pages are the script revisions made and distributed to the crew while shooting. The colors are so you know you have the most recent. Blue pink yellow green salmon gold etc.

People can laugh it up at the poor CGI all they want (and yes, I admit it is quite bad CGI) but you have to understand from the end of shooting to RELEASE DAY in theaters was only 3 months. 3 months only of post to edit the movie, get all the FX done and produce prints for theaters. THAT is why the CGI is so woeful.

Can't really be helped when Paramount will only give you 3 months of post-production to meet a release date. Give Carpenter a break. Sheesh.

The bad CGI isn't much of a problem, the terrible screenplay is.

This is a dismal film and the worst thing is that it's a sequel to one of Carpenter's best films and he screwed it up himself.
